I'm so fascinated at Jess Mariano's little shit self latching onto Rory (the one person he can connect with in this strange awful new place) and actively pursuing her, both because he has a big fat crush on her and because her boyfriend sucks and it's funny to make him angry
But then it actually works. Jess gets the girl, and suddenly he's like, Oh. Wait. I didn't think I'd get this far.
Then he fumbles it so badly because he wasn't ready for it, lol
I love Nancy Wheeler sooooo much, not for the usual empowerment reasons but for how tragic her character is. My heart absolutely shatters for her every single time.
Nancy's story unfortunately is not about growth, it's about loss. The cold, detached, "girlboss" Nancy that emerged around season 2 isn't the result of her growing into a more mature/fully realized person. It's the culmination of her guilt, her grief, the loss of her innocence -- it isn't really Nancy. At least, not all of it is. Nancy is strong and powerful, now more than ever, hell yeah. But she is also a nerd, ambitious and smart and a little prickly. She likes the color pink, she has a wild streak and a romantic one, she thinks Tom Cruise is dreamy, she'll fight tooth and nail to see justice carried out. All of these things are present in season 1 and they're still present in season 4. They just look a little different now.
We see a young and carefree Nancy for approximately 2 episodes before the catalyzing trauma of her life occurs. She is not who she became as a result of that trauma.
If this sounds different than how you've always perceived Nancy, I encourage you to watch while keeping this in mind because it really is a gut-wrenching experience (in the best way). The first time I watched through this lens it gave me a whole new appreciation for her character. My point is, we should be rooting for Nancy to get back in touch with her younger self- the parts of her that knew love and hope- not to stay trapped in this shell of a girl who deflects her pain with a barrage of bullets.
I think part of the fundamental misunderstanding of Nancy's character is that people see the determination, the rage, the fire in her eyes when she takes down monsters and they believe anger to be her main motivator.
It's not.
That revenge course you see her on is only a byproduct of her true motivation: love. Steve was right when he says in season 1 that "Nancy actually cares about other people". She is fighting this fight not because she wants to, or because holding a gun makes her feel strong, but because there are good people -- including all of her loved ones -- who can and will suffer if she doesn't. Like Barb.
Nancy is angry at the horrors not only for what they've already done, but because of what they are capable of. They are capable of hurting innocent people, and Nancy can't let that happen. She must protect them. She channels that inner rage because it helps her keep going.

Okay wait now I'm getting emotional about Ben and Devi and how like. There's something so pure about Devi, ultimate cringefail girl in the San Fernando valley, having the freedom to just? Be as big of a loser as she wants with Ben and he's right there with her? She doesn't have to play it cool or reel herself in at all because they speak the same language?? He MATCHES her embarrassing energy, even?? They're two of the most facepalm-worthy dorks of all time and they understand each other for that very reason??? THEY CAN BE GOOFY-ASS UNFILTERED IDIOTS TOGETHER??? I'm crying. That's everything.
Something something Devi and Elfab still applying the "how to seduce Paxton" mindset even while Devi is pursuing Ben instead... something about trying to act "cool" and detached like she did when she was going after the high school heartthrob, when in reality all Ben wants is for her to be her unfiltered cringey embarrassing True Self because he is the same way...
just made this to share on facebook, feel free to steal it for your own agenda💖✨
