i was so, so hyped for summer anime, and they definitely didnāt disappoint! iām so happy that i started watching seasonal anime before summer, so i could enjoy and following along with all the anime this season. boku no hero academia 2 was a leftover from the spring that was fantastic all throughout its second half, and both katsugeki touken ranbu and ballroom e youkoso were real highlights of the season for me! there were also a few anime that i had wanted to watch, but ended up putting on hold, because otherwise i wouldnāt have had the dedicated time to spend on my general watch list, that i plan on coming back to in the fall and winter!

summer 2017 anime thoughts:
katsugeki touken ranbu: my biggest surprise of the season!!! i had nearly dropped this off my watch list a week before the summer season aired, because i was thinking of swapping it for classroom of the elite or koi to uso, but iām so, so happy i kept it in. i had no expectations going into this besides knowing that ufotable animation was good, and i was so pleasantly surprised! the animation was beautiful and the characters were instantly so likable shippable.
ballroom e youkoso: i think my expectations for this was way too high before i started it, so they were very hard to meet. this was easily the anime that i had been looking forward to the most prior to the start of the season, and though it has been good so far, i canāt say that itās absolutely amazing ? i think tatara is likable and iām enjoying his growth as a dancer, but itās lacking that wow factor i had been hoping for. however, the twelfth episode was very good, so it gives me hope that it could pick up again in the fall!Ā
boku no hero academia 2: iām gonna cheat and say this was my favorite anime of the summer, even though it was a leftover from the spring. but itās just so good!!! iām always looking forward to the next episode, and this season is better than the first in my opinion. i also think it benefited from having a 24-episode run versus a 12-episode run because the combination of lighter and darker arcs really worked well for pacing and character development.
keppeki danshi! aoyama-kun: i picked this up a couple weeks into the season and then binged it before otakon, because pony canyon was coming to promote it alksdjfh this anime replaced dive!! after i dropped it off my watch list. the best part of this anime was the animation and character design. it was also funnier than i thought it would be and a lot of the jokes and bits actually landed really well!
hitorijime my hero: this was the slice of life, comedy, school, romance anime that i picked for this season over koi to uso and konbini kareshi. strangely enough this was the anime that i found myself watching first out of all the seasonal ones that aired on saturdays, just something about the characters and the cliffhangers always got to me. the plot was predictable at times, but it was definitely enjoyable. though i also wish there had been more time spent on kensuke and hasekura!Ā
tsurezure children: as this was a short (though fifteen minutes so almost a full episode length), i decided to wait until all episodes were finished to binge it in one day, and i loved this so much! it was like a highlight reel of all my favorite shoujo anime moments without all the bullshit buildup just so the main couple can get together right before the anime ends alksdjfh all the couples in the show were so distinct in character/style and also super adorable.
dive!!: i dropped this after three episodes. i had gone in expecting it to be a ridiculous discount version of free!, but it was lackluster on all counts. the animation was not as good (ok what was i expecting iām comparing it to kyoani rip), the plot and drama was less interesting (if there even was any?), and the characters were completely bland and uninteresting. couldnāt get into it and decided to watch something else instead.
summer 2017 leftovers:
classroom of the elite: this was one i initially had on my list, but got dropped early on for katsugeki touken ranbu. i thought it might devolve into something ridiculous and uninteresting (similar to masamune-kunās revenge); however, i've heard some really interesting things about this anime, so iām going to try watching it once all the episodes finish airing.
princess principal: this was actually on my watch list for the summer, and i watched the first episode, but it just wasnāt enough to keep my attention, especially with how crowded this summer got with good anime to watch. i do plan on coming back to it though, because a lot of people have said really good things about it!
some other shows that were on my āothersā list at the beginning of summer that i will not be watching are koi to uso, konbini kareshi, and kakegurui. i tried out koi to uso and didnāt like it at all, konbini kareshi got dreadful word of mouth, and from what iāve learned of kakegurui, it seems interesting, but i donāt think itās for me.
and with that the summer 2017 season is over! this season had a surprising amount of interesting and good anime tbh and though iām sad that some of them will be ending soon, iām looking forward to watching the leftovers soon.

even though i only started watching seasonal anime this past spring, iām really enjoying following shows each week, and i wanted a place to be able to put down all my thoughts and predictions for each season. so starting with with fall and summer iām going to be doing previews and reviews!Ā
thereās definitely less anime on my list this fall compared to my list for summer, but there are still one or two that iām quite excited about. iāll still be following ballroom e youkosoĀ in the fall, and iām also really excited for mahoutsukai no yome. there are a few other anime that iām hesitant about, but iām hoping they surprise me and end up being really great! but if i do end up dropping some, at least that also means i have more time to catch up on other anime on my regular watchlist, which has just gotten longer asldkfjahsdfh
my specific show predictions and thoughts are below the cut!
fall 2017 anime:
ballroom e youkoso: a leftover from the summer that i'll also be following in the fall. iām enjoying it so far, so i'm looking forward to seeing tatara grow as a dancer, and iām very excited to meet this chinatsu i keep seeing so many edits for rip it was not my favorite of the summer, but could easily become my favorite for the fall.
mahoutsukai no yome: this is the only new anime this fall that iām super excited about. production i.g. is listed as a producer on this and after their work with haikyuu, dna, kimi ni todoke, etc., i have such high hopes for anything theyāre attached to tbh. i've also heard such good things about the three prologue episodes that are already out (which iāll hopefully be watching sometime next week).
just because!: my obligatory slice of life, romance, school, comedy of the season, there actually weren't too many non-sequels to pick from this season, so by default i picked this one rip. though both tsuki ga kirei from the spring and tsurezure children from summer were really good, so iām hoping iāll be lucky again to get another good romance/slice of life anime.
houseki no kuni: iāve heard mixed reviews on the manga, so i'm not really expecting much though the premise sounds wild and interesting. this is also the only anime that iāve watched the pv for and iām still not quite clear on what itās about (gem people? fighting robots? monsters?). iām hoping itāll surprise me though!
juuni taisen: a late addition to my list, but i love anything zodiac related, so i couldnāt leave it off. i have mixed feelings about this one because it sounds like an action-based anime, which iām generally not a fan of, but maybe itāll also turn out to be really good alksdjfh
black clover:Ā SUPER late change to my watch list, so late that i have to come and edit this post alskdjfh recently, iāve been hearing really good things this manga and how the series is very similar to bnha in its shounen aspects ? idk but itās really made me curious and i want to watch it now!Ā
fall 2017 āothersā:
free! take your marks: the movie is coming out late october in japan !!! though that means itāll be a while until it gets dubbed and/or is available here, i think iām going to try to check if any indie theaters near me will be showing it maybe in the winter. very excited for this, especially based on the pvs iāve seen.Ā
osake wa fuufu ni natte kara: the idea of a slice of life, comedy about a married couple sounds very cute and funny, so iāve actually had this on my list for months now. but thereās currently no info on how many episodes it will be or on the runtime of the short, so iāll probably wait until the end of the season to binge all of them in one go. esp if it turns out i can finish the season in less than an hour rip
dia horizon: this is maybe the fall anime that i am the most intrigued by. itās being made by square enix, and just the promo art for this looks so fascinating? i have absolutely no clue what itās about though and it might turn out to be absolute garbage aksjdfh but depending on how my regular fall watchlist goes, i may pick this one up a few weeks into the season.
a few other shows airing this season that piqued my interest, but which i won't be following and probably won't get around to watching unless they get amazing reviews: inuyashiki, kino no tabi, and kujira no kora wa sajou ni utau.
