                           so    I    don’t    know    what    to    tell    you,    but    marcus    has    a    little    bit    of    a    “helper    complex”.    a    prime    example    is    him    getting    very    attached    to    afton,    even    though    (or    especially    because)    aro    and    most    of    the    coven    basically    want    him    gone.    another    example    would    be    adina,    who    is    only    still    with    the    coven    because    marcus    made    her    part    of    his    personal    guard.    and    while    he    distrusts    jane,    he    is    very    fond    of    alec.    because    he    seems    to    always    stand    in    the    shadow    of    his    dominate    sister.     

this    behaviour    is    linked    to    the    guilt    he    carried    within    him.    he    feels    guilty    for    the    way    he    left    his    human    family    after    he    got    changed,    specifically    his    son.    marcus    isn’t    the    “father-type”    but    knows    that    it    was    wrong    to    let    his    son    grow    up    without    mother    and    father.    that's    why    he    subconsciously    tries    to    compensate    his    parental    failure    by    taking    care    of    volturi    members    who    seem    to    get    overlooked    or    who    haven’t    found    their    place    within    the    coven    yet.
