My pet peeve is when people say that in chemistry there's an exception to every rule and how that's somehow chemistry-specific and unlike the other sciences. Like yeah, of course there's an exception to every rule if all the rules you have learnt are high-school grade. It's how science develops: we build simple models that explain a lot of stuff and then make them complicated so that they can explain even more stuff. If you only ever learn about the simple models, you'll be forced to memorize a bunch of "exceptions" that the simple model can't explain (but a more complicated one might).
This isn't a chemistry thing, it's a science thing. Complaining about chemistry having a bunch of exceptions is like complaining about physics having a bunch of exceptions like "wdym I have to include friction in my equations of motion now 😭🙏" when you've only ever solved problems with frictionless wedges and pulleys and shit. It's like saying biology makes no sense when you find out legumes can utilize atmospheric nitrogen because your middle school teacher told you plants can't do that. Like. Bro. You're embarrassing yourself by very confidently talking about a field you only have the most basic knowledge of.
