and then they did, in fact, consumate the marriage
Nightwing is a great example of a fighter who has weapons designed to create and maintain distance (long escrima sticks, sometimes electrified) who does not give a fuck about distance at all and gets up IN someone else’s guard and uses that to choke/throw/etc up close.
but like re: my tags on the last post i reblogged. rincewind's anger is such an overlooked but crucial and fascinating aspect of his character and it is so so dear to me. because the thing is rincewind's anger isn't a character flaw - if anything, it's one of his biggest and most important strengths. rincewind, by nature, is a kind man. but rincewind, also by nature, is self-preserving, pessimistic, and deeply defeatist. by nature he's resigned to the idea that bad things just happen to him, and will keep happening to him, and the best he can do about it is just protect himself.
rincewind's anger is very much what catalyzes his character growth. rincewind's anger is what gives him the momentum to form and then assert the bone-deep sense of self that becomes the centerpiece of his character arc. rincewind's anger is what gives him the momentum to decide that, even though bad things do just happen to him, he doesn't need to just resign himself to them - he can talk back, he can refuse, he can even act. rincewind's anger is what sends him after a nightmarified trymon with nothing but his bare teeth and after the sourcerer (and then the staff) with nothing but a half-brick in a sock. rincewind's anger is what drives him to act on his morals rather than on his sense of self-preservation, is what lets him decide that fuck it, nobody else is going to so he's going to be the line in the sand between something much bigger than himself and the world.
anyhow don't get me wrong i love love love anger as a character flaw against which the right thing is actively chosen and all that. but as it would turn out, even more than that i really love anger as a character strength, actually. love when it's a positive and necessary force for character growth. love when sometimes the character really should just get to go a little feral and they're right to do so. and this is rincewind to me.
Kory's abandonment issues show that deep down she knows that what her parents did to her was wrong. She continues to remain loyal to Tamaran because admitting to herself that her parents deserve some level of blame would mean that the people she loves before all else are responsible for the torture she experienced. If there were other options to prevent Tamaran's destruction by the Citadel, then what she went through was mindless suffering at the hands of her parents. Its also why she continues to excuse the way they hurt her after her time as a slave is over.

I’ve been binge reading your fics on ao3 and omgggg KING! you are an amazing writer! Im sure you’re super busy, but do you think you’ll write more when you have the time?
Love all that you do!!🩶
Oh absolutely! I have and will always be a writer at heart, and if there’s ever a stretch where I haven’t written or posted anything its likely because I’m battling with other tasks, life events or whatnot— I have dozens of ideas, AUs, and concepts that I genuinely want to explore with TFC that I keep written down, its just a matter of finding the right time (or MAKING that time a priority) to actually sit down and write!
I think that’s one of the biggest challenges that I do have as a writer, because my brain can get so easily overwhelmed or distracted— when I say I’m fighting my brain as a joke, there’s a genuine thread of truth to that XD
