romana could still remember when her world turned upside down, how she was ripped away from her family, and there was nothing that could be done about it. her kidnappers sent out for ransom, using photos of her to show her husband she was alive, but that abruptly stopped. letters stopped being sent, photos stopped being taken, and she didn't know what had been happening. she had been so sure they planned on killing her, though that never came. her days were spent in confinement, never once seeing the faces of her kidnappers, nor seeing the sunlight.
she had lost track of time, mixing up the count of days, no longer knowing how long it had been. she was sure it had been over a year, however. her body changing made that evident enough. her hair was longer, body covered in scars, some fresher than others. they didn't torture her as much, didn't make her suffer as much as in the beginning, but they still made sure she knew who she belonged to.
however, that changed too. it seemed as if they changed their minds as they brought her out the room, ensuring she was blindfolded so she could never identify them. the men loaded her in the car and on the drive, she had been so sure they were finally killing her. they kept telling her she was no longer useful, that she served her purpose, and she tried pleading with them. tried to remind them who her husband was, that he was capable of more than they believed. none of them listened.
the vehicle came to a screeching stop and she felt her body being shoved from the seat. she landed hard on the pavement, the vehicle speeding away, and before she knew it, she was surrounded with a whole new set of people. this time, they were attempting to help. her kidnappers dropped her off at the hospital, one nearly 5 hours away from her husband, and she couldn't be more grateful.
