((tada! Gylfie's family tree!
like I said, it's... a Lot(tm), and honestly, the majority of this information is not at all relevant to her. The main focus for her main verse is Alsga, Theodric, Takrin, Corellia, and her half-siblings. In her Rozarrian verse, the main focus would be Alsga, Theodric, Theodric's family, and Gylfie's siblings.
I'm going to break it down picture by picture with more unnecessary bonus info below the cut, and then I'm going to include a link to House Ynarra's tree with some information once I have that done. Cw/tw for talk of dysfunctional families, abuse, death (due to sickness or murder, child death, familial death/murder), sexism, near-death, homophobia, and infidelity.
Image one - Gylfie
I'm going to be focusing on Gylfie, despite the image being centered on Silas, as I'll go into detail on the others in their rightful family tree.
Gylfie is the firstborn daughter of Alsga and the bastard daughter of Theodric, though she grew up believing she was Takrin's firstborn as well. She was, however, the black sheep of the family - Alsga loved her but didn't like her, and Gylfie grew up believing her mother regretted her, given the sad looks she sometimes caught from her and the emotional distance between them. Takrin hated her before she was even born because she wasn't his, and the two never had a good relationship. She feared him when she was little, as he was verbally and emotionally abusive to her when Alsga wasn't around. When Alsga left, Gylfie was seven and Silas was six, and Gylfie's fear of Takrin turned into anger. She clashed with her "father" and brother frequently, and was only kept in the family so Takrin could uphold a pristine reputation, as their volatile relationship was always hidden from outside eyes. Yet, when Gylfie grew older, she was rarely home - she stayed frequently with friends when she left on her own terms, and sometimes with them when she was kicked out of the house, though often found herself staying overnight on the streets instead.
Her relationship with Silas was always sour, as Silas often copied their father with how he treated her, and she deeply resented him being the golden child. Takrin added fuel to the fire by pitting them against each other when they were both in the military, and when Gylfie almost died to save Takrin, he named Silas Judge and his successor. Her resentment turned into bitter jealousy, and it all boiled over as she recovered. Silas was injured during a battle, leaving him bedridden, and... she killed him during the night, using her arcane magicks to stop his heart and leaving no evidence behind that it was because of her. His death was believed to be caused by infection, but Takrin, however, knew in his heart that wasn't the case, but had no proof. Instead, when Gylfie rejoined the military, he prevented her from being anything more than a guard and training officer - permitting her to train with Judges, but never promoting her to such a rank. She only became a Judge when Judge Magister Gabranth and Judge Magister Drace took an interest in her, but her anger toward Takrin never wavered, even with her position beneath Drace. It wouldn't be until sometime after she became Judge again that she finally learned she wasn't Takrin's daughter, and that she was half-Rozarrian - something she was quick to hide and ignore.
Gylfie's relationship with Corellia was also tumultuous. She refused to accept Corellia as her mother, despite Silas accepting her and Takrin's insistence, and grew to resent her as Corellia continued to insist she was her new mother. Their relationship only worsened as Corellia sided with Takrin and pressured Gylfie into accepting that it was her duty as a woman to become a wife and mother when she was older, and then pushed her into helping her raise her younger siblings. Despite that, Gylfie no longer has any relationship with her half-siblings. When Corellia and Takrin learned Gylfie was queer, she was no longer permitted to be near them, and she never bothered to try and maintain a relationship with them. And, following Takrin's death, she simply has nothing to do with any of them at all.
Gylfie had also been betrothed to Noctus Solidor, the second son of Emperor Gramis, as a way of Gramis thanking House Ynarra for their generational loyalty. It was a betrothal she hated, though she went along with it, for the most part, to avoid retaliation from House Solidor. She held no love for Noctus, and while the two didn't like each other, they were... fairly cordial as they grew up, all things considered. However, when Gylfie was fourteen, she secretly began courting her best friend, Myriel, and believed she'd marry her. She knew her betrothal would end if she claimed to be homosexual, but also knew she would be disowned - something she actually looked forward to, as she felt more comfortable with Myriel's family than she did with her own. However, both relationships would end. As they got older, Gylfie was still deeply in love with Myriel, but... Myriel fell out of love with Gylfie. She felt unsatisfied in their relationship, and felt second-best to Gylfie's career. She wanted children when Gylfie didn't, and was terrified of the day that Gylfie simply wouldn't come home - that she would finally die in battle, for her near-death had rattled Myriel deeply. But... she was also afraid of Gylfie, and no longer knew her like she once did - because, despite not having any evidence, she knew in her heart that Gylfie was responsible for Silas's death, and when she confronted her about it, Gylfie neither confirmed nor denied it. Myriel broke up with Gylfie, and Gylfie made no attempt to change it. Then, Gylfie's betrothal to Noctus would failt as well, but only because Noctus was accused of treason against his father - resulting in his death alongside his older brother. Although she was not close to him, his death still hit hard, and she did mourn him, although she did so privately.
Unfortunately, she would be betrothed yet again, this time unofficially, to Vayne. It was agreed upon by Gramis and Takrin, although they would later discuss dismissing the notion entirely in favor of betrothing Larsa and Telina, but it remained unofficial so Archadia could offer a political marriage if it meant they could gain control of Dalmasca or Nabradia, or even get Rozarria beneath their thumb. It was a betrothal Gylfie hated even more than her betrothal to Noctus, as, with him, she at least got along with him, while with Vayne... was a completely different story. She hated him for many reasons, with one of them being the fact that Takrin favored him above Gramis, and it was something Vayne knew. He used that against Gylfie, and was frequently inappropriate with her as a means of control because he knew she could do nothing about it. The only good thing was that her betrothal to Vayne was never publicized, and it never came to fruition.
Image two - Alsga's family
Alsga is the eldest daughter of Veonna and Brego Everren, with Zolmos being the middle child, and Jia being the youngest. Alsga was parentified as a child, and with her parents being older when they started having children, she went from helping raise her younger siblings to helping her aging parents. Their family was not poor by any means, considering they lived in Archades, but they weren't wealthy either, and weren't nobility. Alsga's marriage to Takrin was arranged by him and her parents, as their arrangement meant their family would be more comfortable and it would keep her from being "tainted" by a Rozarrian - something Alsga didn't fight, although her heart belonged to Theodric, a Rozarrian ambassador living in Archades. Alsga's parents were aware of Gylfie's existence, but never met her. Alsga knew they would immediately peg Gylfie to be Theodric's daughter, and either claimed Gylfie was sick or she didn't want to see them whenever they asked why their granddaughter never came to visit. They did, however, meet Silas several times. Alsga was always incredibly obedient, but not long after her parents died, she learned Theodric was still alive. She found him in Old Archades, and the pair fled - with her leaving her two young children behind with Takrin.
Veonna and Brego were strict with their children, and not very loving overall. They weren't cruel, but they weren't kind, either. Zolmos was obedient like Alsga, though Veonna and Brego were more lenient with him given his sex, and him securing a good job as an airship engineer and settling down fairly young. Jia, however, grew increasingly frustrated with their parents, and their blatant homophobia (something both Alsga and Zolmos would reflect) was the final straw. She left home as soon as she was able, and married her wife a few years later - changing her last name to Elisa's to separate herself from her birth family. Jia and Elisa would adopt Asbirn several years later, around the time when Gylfie was seven, though he has no relationship with any of his cousins.
Zolmos married Aelin before Alsga married Takrin, and the pair have three sons. Draven is the oldest, only a year older than Gylfie, and he's followed by Arthfael (who mainly goes by Art) and then Kylix. Draven and Circe married when they were nineteen, but their relationship with Draven's parents and Kylix is almost non-existent. Both Draven and Art don't see eye-to-eye on many things with their parents, but haven't quite separated themselves from them and their younger brother completely. However, Circe made it clear she didn't want Zolmos, Aelin, or Kylix around Safina alone, and with rising tension between Draven and his family for him backing his wife and her decision, it's becoming more likely that he won't have any relationship with them going forward. Art is more hesitant when it comes to completely cutting contact, but he respects Circe's decision as well, and refuses to even speak about Safina with his parents and younger brother.
Image three - Theodric's family
House Dalras is a noble family within Rozarria, though they are considered lesser nobility. However, despite that status, they are well-respected, and have high-ranking jobs because of it. Lorena had been a mage for House Margrace before her retirement, actually helping them secure their power after the fallout of Rozarria's civil war, and Háda had been an ambassador stationed in Nabradia before his retirement, with his connections in Nabradia securing Rozarrian influence. Theodric is the eldest son, and followed in his father's footsteps, though he went to Archadia during a lull in the war to help with negotiations. It would be in Archades that he'd meet Alsga, and the two quickly fell in love - something that could have worked, had she not been arranged to Takrin. However, the last time they spent together, just days before Alsga's wedding, resulted in a daughter - Gylfie. Although Takrin knew even before Gylfie was born that Alsga's firstborn was not his, Theodric never learned she was his, as that was something Alsga kept from him. But because of Takrin's infatuation with Alsga, he threatened Theodric, and Theodric fled Archades, yet stayed close in Old Archades. Alsga would later find him there after hearing word of a Rozarrian still living within Archadia's borders, and the two would successfully escape to Rozarria. Theodric was disgraced and stripped of his position, yet despite his parents' disappointment, they didn't disown him, and permitted them to marry despite their reluctance to accept Alsga. However, they would come to warm up to her as they learned more about her, and by the time their daughter, Olean, was born, Alsga was fully welcomed into Theodric's family.
Olean was a name both Theodric and Alsga had wanted to use from the very beginning, but, unbeknownst to Theodric, Alsga had already used it. She had named Gylfie "Olean" unofficially - a name Gylfie knows, and actively uses when needed to conceal her identity. However, because Aslga wanted to redo her life with Theodric, she decided to reuse the name again - this time on a daughter she could actually mother, and a daughter he knew of as his own. Olean is nine years younger than Gylfie, and Boron is eleven years younger.
Ferro is the second oldest, and certainly the black sheep of the family. Unlike his parents and siblings, he prefers a more exciting lifestyle, and... has the reputation to prove it, though his charisma always saves him in the end. He has a son he isn't aware of with his ex-fiancée, Rocio, and he isn't aware of Oriol for good reason. Rocio ended their engagement after catching Ferro with another woman, and doesn't want Oriol growing up with his father's influence.
Belen is the third and middle child, and a force to be reckoned with. She's fiercely loyal to Rozarria, with her inheriting her mother's magicks, and serves as a general in Rozarria's army. She's proud and stern, and was the slowest to come around to Alsga, although she has a decent relationship with her now, if only because she sees how much Alsga means to her oldest brother. However... what she isn't aware of, and what even Alsga isn't aware of, is that she is responsible for Gylfie's near-death. She had aimed to kill Judge Magister Ynarra during that fateful battle, and ended up striking Gylfie instead, who had rushed to save her "father". Her weapon had been imbued with magicks, allowing her to slice through Gylfie's armor like it was nothing, but with her attempt foiled and Archadia receiving reinforcements, she was forced to call a retreat before she could pursue Takrin - something she regrets, especially knowing the history between him and her sister-in-law.
Eomund is the second youngest and Azahara is the youngest of the family, with them being rather close in age compared to their older siblings. Eomund and works comfortably as a teacher alongside his wife, Nolle, which is how they met. While he doesn't have the drive as Theodric or Belen, he also doesn't share Ferro's wild side - he's quiet and gentle, but quite firm when he needs to be. However, he and Nolle are a bit overprotective of their young son, Yago, as their firstborn, Alba, died when she was a baby after getting incredibly sick. Azahara is far more outspoken than Eomund, and arguably just as fierce as her older sister - something her husband, Léoulf, absolutely adores. She used to work in Rozarria's politics, not quite as a politician but still knee-deep in that life all the same, but after having her twins, Luca and Cyneith, she's been rather content being a housewife - having needed a break from politics. She still hears plenty from Léoulf, who works as an advisor to House Margrace.
Image four - Takrin's family
Takrin is the eldest son of Widmund and Herewynn, and Widmund's successor as Judge Magister Ynarra. Widmund and Herewynn's marriage was... volatile, to say the least. Widmund was cruel and abusive, and Herewynn tried to put up with it for the sake of their sons, but when Takrin began to copy his father's personality, she had enough. She filed for divorce, with Widmund agreeing on the terms she wouldn't reveal anything that could harm House Ynarra's reputation or standing with House Solidor, but only their youngest son, Darius, left with her. Takrin chose to stay with his father, and blamed his mother. He refused to maintain a relationship with her or Darius, and while his mother blames herself for failing Takrin and wishes she could still have a relationship with him, Darius doesn't miss him at all. Herewynn would later marry Baldric Madal, who treated her far better than Widmund ever did, even when they were courting and before his true nature came to light, and Darius willingly changed his surname and accepted Baldric as his father.
Arnora is Herewynn's only daughter, and the only child of her and Baldric. She has a strong relationship with her parents and her half-brother Darius, and while she knows about Takrin, she doesn't have any sort of relationship with him, and plans to keep it that way. She has two sons, Garretth and Jorund, with her husband, Vorgoth. Her oldest son, Garreth, is actively courting Rolan, and his parents believe they'll end up marrying.
Darius, despite technically being a Ynarra, has denounced his biological father's House. He has no interest in becoming a Judge Magister, let alone even serving in Archadia's military, and Widmund was equally as eager to denounce Darius as his son for "betraying" him.
Takrin, despite having the best relationship with Widmund out of Darius and Herewynn... didn't care for his father. He cared for his power as Judge Magister, and although friends with Gramis and being the only eligible Ynarra to become Widmund's successor, it was his ambition that drove him to poison his father - ultimately ending his life. However, Widmund's death was simply believed to be caused by his sudden "illness". After becoming Judge Magister in his father's stead, Takrin became infatuated with Alsga, but went to her parents to arrange a marriage with her - something they agreed with on the fact it would offer their family a more comfortable lifestyle, and because it would mean it would keep her away from Theodric. Takrin knew of him, but didn't realize the extent of Alsga's relationship with the Rozarrian until after their wedding, when she confessed to him in tears that the babe in her womb was not his. Takrin agreed to claim the baby as his own, despite his fury, yet... never blamed Alsga. He blamed Theodric, and his threats drove him out of Archades, and he blamed Gylfie, even though it was never her fault for her mother's infidelity. And about a year after Gylfie was born, Silas was born, and Silas was Takrin's firstborn. That was all Takrin cared about, and Silas was quickly his favorite child - something that was proven time and time again, and especially when Alsga finally left. He blamed Gylfie, again, but was heartbroken with Alsga gone.
However, he cared more about his bloodline and legacy than he did Alsga, and remarried two years later. There was no love between him and Corellia, but it was a marriage of convenience for both, and she was content simply being his wife. With her, Takrin had four more children - Telina was born when Gylfie was ten, Barid was born when Gylfie was thirteen, Kelah was born when Gylfie was fifteen, and Tarquin was born when Gylfie was seventeen/eighteen. He was content with having five children of his own blood, and knew House Ynarra would live on - and without Gylfie having the potential of being the last "Ynarra" if something befell him and Silas. However, the only thing he felt Gylfie was good for was securing House Ynarra to House Solidor through marriage, and he pressured her as best he could into accepting she would only ever be a Solidor's wife, and that she needed to be a mother, not a soldier. He was content with letting her help raise her younger siblings until he learned she was attracted to women, and... after that, their relationship only worsened, and he became more insistent she marry a Solidor to "set her right". He didn't want Gylfie anywhere near his younger children, and the private resentment he held of Alsga came to surface, and he, once more, placed that anger onto Gylfie.
When Silas died during the night after a battle left him severely wounded, Takrin knew his son had died by Gylfie's hand and not by infection. He was well aware of her anger and resentment, but he thought her to be a coward - he never believed she was capable of killing her own half-brother. He feared her, after that, but his rage was stronger than that fear. He felt himself above her in more ways than one, and since she had nearly sacrificed herself to save him, he believed he held control over that kept him safe. He knew of her ambition, and when she was cleared to rejoin the military, he barred her from becoming anything more than a guard and training instructor. It was a perfect opportunity for him to keep her at a low rank and to be unnoticed, and it opened the door for him to attempt to drive her out of the military without causing a scene and ruining House Ynarra's reputation. But when Gabranth and Drace stepped in, he opted to push Gylfie aside rather than fight them on their decision - once again putting his reputation above anything else. It infuriated him to no end, but... it meant Gylfie was no longer his responsibility, and no longer had claim to "House Ynarra's" bureau. Barid, or even Tarquin, would take his place, once he was older, and that would be that.
Gylfie killed Takrin before he ever had a chance to know if Barid would even be interested in becoming a Judge Magister. She dreamed of his death for years, but never acted out on her rage until the opportunity arose on Mt. Bur-Omisace, when he sided with Bergan to protect Vayne's rise to power and to prevent Ashelia from claiming the Dalmascan throne. It also secured her place as Judge Magister of the Third Bureau, the unofficial bureau of House Ynarra, despite Takrin's best efforts to prevent the "half-blooded bastard" from becoming his successor.
Information on House Ynarra can be found here.
Image five - Corellia's family
Thurlow is the oldest child of Nanette and Jannis Golmarr, and the heir to House Golmarr's textile business. His family is of high nobility, and their family's business has been long successful, even before House Solidor seized permanent power in Archadia. It's a business Thurlow is proud of and eager to take over one day, and has already proven himself to be capable when his father finally decides to retire. The only thing he hasn't done, and the one thing his parents are disappointed with, is the fact that he hasn't settled down with his own family.
Corellia is the second child, and was groomed early on to be a "proper lady" who would be in charge of raising children while her husband worked. It was an idea she was fine with, as she had no desire to work, though it would be several years until she finally married. She was feeling pressure to find a husband by her parents, who didn't want two of their children without families, and was approached by Takrin overheard Jannis's exasperation. He approached Corellia to start a courtship, and although she knew he held no interest in her, she accepted as it was convenient. They married not long into their courtship, and while love never developed between the two, she was happy to stay when it meant her parents stopped hounding her about it. She didn't care for his two children, as she never learned Gylfie wasn't Takrin's daughter, but enforced herself as their mother nonetheless - rather jealous of the attention Alsga still had from Takrin despite her "death", as no one knew she was still alive. Silas accepted her as his mother, but Gylfie never did, and she never got along with Gylfie because of it. She knew well of the way Takrin treated his daughter, but never did anything to stop him - preferring to turn the other way instead, though she did join him in pressuring Gylfie into accepting her betrothal.
She gave Takrin the children he wanted, and despite her disdain of Gylfie, pushed her into helping her raise her children for "experience". She used that as a means to take "breaks" from being a mother to them, but as soon as Takrin told her about Gylfie's sexuality, she sided with him and prevented Gylfie from being near their children. She hardly cared who Gylfie was attracted to, really, but she cared about Takrin's approval, and was more than happy to push Gylfie further out of the family.
Telina was Corellia's firstborn, and the apple of her mother's eye. Barid was the second child and first son of Corellia and Takrin, and looked up to Silas immensely. Kelah was their third child and second daughter, and she blended into the background with them - overshadowed by Telina and Barid, but hardly seemed to care as she seemed content being by herself. Tarquin was their last child and their second son, and also a surprise. He was conceived not long before Silas's death, and was named after his father in an attempt by Corellia to pull Takrin from his grief.
Seraphin is the youngest child of Nanette and Jannis, and the forgotten child of House Golmarr, despite being the first of their three to marry. Her marriage to Eckehart is stilted, although they co-exist fairly well, though, unlike her sister, she isn't content with being just a mother to her daughter, Fleur - who's several years older than her cousin, Telina. Seraphin wants her own life, and while Eckehart would support her, she has yet to tell him. He has his suspicions, but hasn't attempted to reach out to her about that, either.
