Do you think that it's more wishful thinking than realistic that Naruto only has to talk/yell/beat up his enemies, and poof, they become his allies, no matter what kind of sin they committed? Ex: Sasuke nearly killed Karin, his ally, planned to kill his old teammates+teacher in cold blood & burn his village to the ground. Not to mention Tobi's sins in ~16 years and his mental state, and yet he can be talked down in the matters of minutes.
Anything is possible when the player rolls a natural 20 on their Persuade check at long last. Especially after spending the entire campaign finding ways to buff charisma and get as many situational and roleplaying bonuses as possible for their bewhiskered diplomancer build.
Also, maybe the DM finally gave up the ghost in the face of the inevitable because it was 3 am and well past time for everyone to go home.
