I think a reason those “you can’t ship those characters, they see each other as family!” arguments seem so poor is that, unless you’re shipping a confirmed canonical couple, you are inherently changing the nature of the characters’ relationship somehow. As in, changing platonic friends to lovers, or enemies to lovers, or even shipping two characters who have never even met before! Who cares if one of the guys in your ship called the other one his ‘brother’? The people from that ship over there have tried to kill each other. This other one features two guys who are both married to women in the source material. This other one has a dude who's DEAD. Like, none of this matters. Follow in the footsteps of shippers before you and learn not to care so much about canon.
