it’s been too long, xiao thinks, since he’s seen her face to face like this. cautiously, one gloved hand reaches out to tuck a piece of hair behind yelan’s ear, fingertips ghosting over her cheek as he does so. he misses her, in a way that’s different from anyone else. it’s not enough to watch her from a distance, even if it’s safer for her.
it won’t be enough, it’s not good enough for him.
‘stay.’ it’s a rare request from the yaksha, but he thinks yelan might forgive him a moment of selfishness, just this once. ‘i missed you.’

─「夜兰」─ the INFORMANT found exhaustion taking over her after a long, stressful mission. there weren't many places where the liyuan spy would feel completely safe, even less presences she would allow to have witnessed her in such a state. he, of course, remained that sole exception to be able to find her whenever he wanted. yelan, after all, was the type that would not let herself be found unless she wanted to. and when it comes to the vigilant yaksha ? she always would want him to find her. he always know how to find her, too.
was it her coming to find him or was it him finding her this time ? the line itself blurred and answer was irrelevant. as long as he was here, that was all that mattered. their MEETING had always been brief, something yelan herself disliked. the nature of their reunion. short, brief, bittersweet. his karmic debt preventing himself from lingering too long. and she looked at him through those aquamarine hues, a kind of gaze no one would see from her except him.
his touch was soft, careful, considerate. it was as if he was touching something that would so easily break if he exerted too much force. the liyuan spy was far, far from it. she was one that would not break no matter the force, yet she knew why he was so cautious with every brush of his fingers against her skin. it was akin to the touch of a butterfly's wings, ghosting ever so tenderly and yelan couldn't help her gaze mellowing slightly, feeling her heart welled up in WARMTH.
and she wished it lasted just a moment longer. the words were swallowed back down her throat. a request never uttered. a selfish thought. but maybe, just maybe that yearn she had buried so deep inside of her was resonating with his own. that longing to tread the path so dangerous gripped at her very form, and he felt it just as strongly.
the informant felt the organ in her left chest skipped a beat, half-lidded hues widened just momentarily as though she doubted her own hearing. that was until her aquatic orbs met with his GOLDEN ones, and a look of plead almost matched her own that was kept a secret. gloved digits came over to his cheek, bringing him closer so their foreheads could touch. if he was being selfish, did that mean she could, too ?
" i'd want nothing more. " the syllables were whispered against his lips, ones that were so temptingly close to her own. yelan tilted her head, slightly cooler breath spilled against his mouth as turquoise hues. there was a quiet, tender chuckle as a certain realization set in. " ... ah, maybe — i do want one more thing. " a softer grin, and lashes draped over her eyes.
her lips sealed his own in a yearnful kiss after that admittance. how she missed him, too. let them both be selfish together.
