Here's what Square is telling people to get them to buy its stock

Square’s pitch in a nutshell: We help businesses start up and grow. Then they help us grow. Then it repeats. And it’s all approved by Magic Johnson.
Just look at the company’s video “roadshow,” a sales pitch to convince people to buy its stock.
Jack Dorsey smiles easily and lets out a loud chuckle early on like you’re just having a fun, friendly conversation over dinner and drinks. His…

Snapchat's valuation falls by 25%, and more big tech companies will follow

The big tech companies of our time are being cut down to size.
Snapchat, the messaging service with 100 million daily active users, and which rejected a Facebook takeover in the past, is the latest technology company to see its lofty valuation start to disappear.
Fidelity, a mutual fund that invested in Snapchat last year and again as part of a more than $500 million Series F round of…

Silicon Valley darling Square is worth less than it was a year ago, and the good times may be over for unicorns

All eyes in Silicon Valley are now looking cautiously at Jack Dorsey — but not because of Twitter.
Square, the payments startup that Dorsey runs when he’s not busy trying to save Twitter, revealed in a filing Friday that it plans to price its upcoming public offering at between $11-$13 per share.
At the mid-point of that range, Square would have a market cap of just under $4 billion, which…

The "Flip" stand is designed with small business in mind. The point of sale docking station can be used as an "iPad register" along with your Square Card Reader (not provided). One thing that sets this stand apart from alternatives is it's ability to flip over front to back, alternating the screen's view between you and your customer.... when flipped, the contents on the screen also flips. As an added touch, there's a business card and stylus holder on the front of the register. To insert your iPad, just put the tablet into the back and slide the felt-padded backing plate into place and you're ready to go. There's a thin ledge above the top of the iPad that securely holds it in place when flipping and prevents the iPad from being slipped out by someone other than yourself. At your request, I can add mounting points on the base of the stand and provide you with screws and finish washers to keep the register in a permanent location.

A break... A switch... A new thing
Ironically I think today would be as good as any to redirect the flow of this blog. I mentioned previously that I switched companies, the new one being much closer to the City of Atlanta – where all the action is.
Well, I am parked at a Whole Foods sucking up some free Wi-Fi. The reason being that the computer that runs the taxi, i.e. it gives us the calls, fares, etc., has been on the blink for a couple days now, so they are finally deciding to pay some attention to it. A message was sent out saying the system would be down for 15 mins so I decided I had better hit the keys and puts some words up on this blog before it is swallowed up into cyberspace as another blog abandoned by its author.
As for the change, the main difference has been the fact that just about everything is computer driven. This, of course has many positives and alternatively on a day like today where the computer is on the fritz one see the drawbacks.
The biggest (material) benefit is that the fares are larger. Naturally the taxi lease fee is also more expensive but it is in line with the increased possibilities of larger fares and tips.
The customer base is also a little more intellectually stimulating which is always a good thing. The only issue that has shown itself is with credit card transactions. The company has a built in card reader but it does not take debit cards and they extract a hefty fee (10%!!!) from the fare. But have no fear @Square www.squareup.com is here!. If you are not hip to the @square card reader, well you need to be. I can take credit/debit card payments by attaching the reader to my (i)phone, swipe, wait for the approval, then I’m done. The customer has a choice of getting an electronic receipt via email or via sms to their mobile phone. Its quick, its easy, and for most customers actually fun!
There is a lot more to say but I wanted to end on a positive note, but more importantly my timer has gone off telling that the 15 minute schedule for fixing the taxi cab computer network is up. Let’s hope it is fully resolved and there are hundreds of fares waiting to be picked up!
