Mentors pass on the stuff they were taught and know- and sometimes the students don’t go learn other ways to go about doing stuff...

What I’m trying to say is that Sam NEVER does any sort of clean up, but that’s because Arthur, her mentor, never did clean up so he never taught her about cleaning up.

When I say cleanup, what i’m talking about specifically is emotional and physical cleaning up. Spreading the ashes after killing a vampire, taking the clothes leftover and putting them elsewhere. Then emotionally, finding out WHO the vamp was and then trying to get the family some closure. Maybe dropping a message telling them where the “body” is, maybe talking to the family and trying to bring them some comfort that way- everyone is different in how they try to do it.

Cleanup is VERY important, well emotionally it is, because here’s the thing- these hunters are the only ones that know what happened to the people and nobody is going to accept the whole “vampires killed them” thing so they also can’t just come out in the open to say what happened. 

Sam, does zero emotional clean up. Maybe she’ll talk to family or friends to try and figure out if someone is a vamp or just missing/dead from other means, but she doesn’t try to bring any closure to anybody. Once the vamps are dead, she’s done with the families or friends of the dead people.

It’s not that Sam doesn’t CARE about the people, but she was never taught how to go about doing it, and she knows not to go to people saying “vampires killed your friend, sorry.” She cares quite a lot.

Now, Danny. He puts as much effort into emotional cleanup as he does in actually killing the vampire. He’ll do the most he can to figure out who the vampire was and scope out family/friends for a lil bit before deciding what to do.

Generally, he’ll do something pretty straightforward and approach the family saying “Hey, do you know a BLANK? I found their wallet on so-and-so street and can you give it to them?” Sometimes, he’ll add how it looked pretty messy or when the family asks questions he’ll open up about how it looked really bad too. Unforunately, he hasn’t come up with some full-proof way to tell someone that he knows the person is dead without incriminating himself. No body and all makes it hard.

Ann and Balder. They uhh, well, once again, mentor passing on their teaches thing. All, they’ll do is send out some letters (making absolutely sure it can’t get traced back to them) being explicitly clear that said person is dead and they’re very sorry- also not responsible for what happened but bc of situations can’t come forward or explain.

May does NO cleanup whatsoever. Like PHYSICAL OR EMOTIONAL. She will just leave the pile of ashes right there. Her reasoning is that it’s not the first time it’s happened, sometimes vamps get caught in sunlight. Besides, if the world eventually realized/accepted vampires then that wouldn’t be a bad thing.

Ann- Sprawls across the entire bed on her back. Needs a cold room to fall asleep in, and will wake up sweaty. Falls asleep pretty easy, and wakes up just as easily. One of those people that actually exercises first thing in the morning. 

Balder- His face is really loose when he's sleeping, and he kind of drools to be honest. He glares at anybody who tries to wake him up, except for Danny or small children. When his sister tries to wake him up he rolls over and ignores her. This usually leads to Ann jumping on the bed and him to wake him up, which will either end in him stubbornly staying asleep or "Okay! Fine! Fine, I'm up!"

Danny- Sleeps on his right side, hands are out in front of his chest, legs out, bent only very slightly. He rolls over to other sides a few times when he's first fallen asleep, but after it's been a few hours he stays like that until he wakes up. He has a really small smile on his face when he's sleeping, he wakes up easy when he has an alarm- people talking to him almost puts him back to sleep.

May- Sleeps on her back, one hand up by her head, the other down by her side. She sleeps better with a pillow underneath her knees. She looks serene when she's asleep, but she wakes up very easily.

Okay, so when I think about being susceptible to spirits/ghosts/etc. - I think how easy your emotions can be tampered with or your will influenced to THEIR will. 

Which, yes, Sam has quite the strong will. However, it’d be easy for something that got inside her to rile up her anger and then once she’s mad they could pretty much do anything with her. 

I mean just get her mad and then keeping her mad is no problem, all they’d have to do is keep her mad at the stuff they want her to be mad at. From there, just putting suggestions in her head is enough. Like-

“I’m fUCKING PISSED OFF!!!”

“Hey, that person has done a lot of bad stuff. Just think about it.”

“THAT PERSON SUCKS!!!”

“Yeah, they do. They deserve to get punished for what they’ve done.”

“I’LL PUNCH THEM INTO NEXT TUESDAY!”

“Or burn down their house.”

“OR BURN DO- well, that’s a little extreme, hold on-”

“They did that bad stuff- they should definitely have their house burnt down.”

“yOU KNOW WHAT- YEAH! FUCK THEM! THEIR HOUSE IS ASHES!!!”

Like- that’s all they’d have to do. Granted this is purposefully for spirits that already have some ability to manipulate someone’s mind. If it’s just a general spirit with no real powers like that, then yeah- they’d have the same effect as any person.

For actual possession, where they completely TAKE OVER the body and mind- now that would be an issue, but if it’s just one of those where it has a strong influence rather than a replacement- oh yeah.

The only thing about keeping her anger going- like if someone completely innocent gets in the way or something- that’s going to be a struggle to keep that anger stoked at the innocent. 

As for the others

Since, Sam is the most susceptible then I’ll just go all the way from most susceptible to least.

Sam- for all the reasoning already listed.

Danny- while Danny is always on the goal of improvement and making a positive impact, all the spirits would have to do would convince him it’d be for the best. Which, along with his wanting a clear direction to go, this would make him a relatively easy target.

May- Now, she changes a lot over the course of the story, but at this current stage she is still rather self-centric so if she’s got these feelings from the spirit of wanting to do something- then she’ll likely do it. The issue that’d get run into is if it was something uncharacteristic for her- like hurting someone for a minor offense.

Vincent- He’s kind of got a middle ground here. While he wouldn’t be able to shake a spirit out of him- he’d be very resistant to suggestions. He’s still at a stage where he’ll push down feelings and whatnot, he keeps a lot of stuff contained within himself. So, it’s likely that any spirit would move out of Vincent and into anybody else nearby simply because while they have him feel a certain way they want him to- he’ll still not DO anything.

Balder- while not that emotionally strong or anything, he’s very questioning and introspective so he it’d be hard for spirits to make him do stuff- simply bc he’d stop to think “why am I doing this? why do I feel this way?” Although, he may soon get distracted so if they could keep him unfocused it’d work.

Ann- She has a very strong will, and her emotions are well-covered so that one of them can not get manipulated so far into her going along to the spirit if it’s with something she wouldn’t do under normal circumstances. She is insecure about her femininity and looks at times, but at this stage she has dealt with it a fair bit to where it’s decreasing as she goes along.

SO LET’S HAVE A “POSSESSABILITY SCALE” RANKING!!!!

Ann = 2 = Rather unlikely

Balder = 4 = You can do it, but it’ll be some effort.

Vincent = 5 = Yes, you’ll get it, but your goal will take ten times longer than normal.

May = 7 = Just keep your suggestions mild or build them up, and you can get away with it.

Danny = 8 = You’ll get it, oh yeah, just work quick before someone makes him stop to think because then you’ll run into a stop.

So, quick recap about the family situations going on. 

Sam’s parents are dead, and she has Arthur who is essentially an Uncle. 

Danny has a great family with parents, sibling, cousins, aunts, uncles, etc.

Ann & Balder grew up in an orphanage, but they had some foster parents throughout the years and they have their mentor who they’re close to.

May’s parents died too, and she had a medley of caretakers.

Vincent’s parents died, then he had his Uncle and Aunt, but then just his Uncle, then his Uncle was gone too, and then he pretty much grew up around hunters.

Sam

She just likes to take the day and think about her mom. Just remembering her stuff her mom did for her and maybe looking through old pictures and stuff if she’s around the town with her stuff. She gets sentimental, but ultimately she doesn’t do much else. Her routine doesn’t change besides spending a little extra money to pick out something that she remembered her mom making/getting for her. (Like modern!verse her mom would always share her chili with her when they went to Frisch’s) She does like mother’s day though, she likes it a lot actually. She loves hearing about other people’s moms and listening to their stories.

Ann & Balder

As I said, they had some foster parents. Which, let me tell you if you don’t know- foster parents are like parents that will only temporarily hold onto a kid. Like they won’t officially adopt the kid, but they will take care of the kid for a short period of time, possibly multiple times. So, they’ll leave messages for two mother figures that took care of them, but ultimately that’s it. They don’t dislike the day, but they just think back to the parent figures that they did have and appreciate them. It used to bother them, but by this point they are perfectly fine.

Danny

He’s pretty typical regarding mother’s day. He’ll get chocolate and flowers and a card for his mom, and help his siblings with whatever they have planned. He’ll come home generally, or he’ll come around when he can and treat THAT day like mother’s day. When he’s home he’ll pretty much spoil his mom with his siblings and do everything for her. With each passing year now he relishes mother’s day more and more because it’s an excuse to escape from everything that’s going on with his life at the moment. Danny is trying to be a leader of this team and in general hunting is not a fun job, so it’s nice to be able to go home and see his mom and not think about that for one day.

He avoids talking about it in group conversation though with the team. After the first time, he figured out that May and Vincent didn’t really have any mother figures so he didn’t want to bring up any hurt feelings. He likes to talk with Ann and Balder about it though, ask them about their foster moms and ideas he has for when he goes home and “Do you think I should bring home stuff to make her something to eat?”

May

She completely ignores the day as best as she can. She’ll avoid conversation about it if she can, and if not then she’ll give one word replies to end conversations about it. If someone is talking about their mom then she’ll let them talk and so on, but if it’s specifically regarding mother’s day related she doesn’t engage the conversation. Talk about your mom any other day, and she’ll be fine. May still feels rather cheated about losing her parents, and although she doesn’t necessarily think she had a bad childhood she still wishes she could have just had a normal childhood with her parents. Problem is she doesn’t really remember them so she has a small handful of vague memories that don’t really do anything for her.
