wanted plot: (written with the help of @rogueprinceconsort )
eugene was born royal, a second twin. but because his parents didn’t want to cause unnecessary tension between their sons, they decided to give their second son, eugene up.
however, “eugene” is the name of his older brother, his twin, the crown prince. the queen wrote a letter to the orphanage (with the royal seal and his true name, probably theodore, named for his father), tucked it in the baby’s cradle, but was lost before the baby made it to the orphanage.
because the royal letter was lost, the orphanage (and eugene) have no idea that he’s royal. they decide to name him “eugene” after the new prince, and he grows up the same way as canon.
until corona throws a celebration for something or other, and invites king theodore and queen evegenia (darker route: the regent, who took over after the sudden and mysterious deaths of the king and queen) and their son, prince eugene. and prince eugene and prince consort eugene come face to face and are like “wtf” and their parents are like “fuck”
and basically eugene doesn’t know he was born royal until he meets his twin.
