Plastics have pervaded all aspects of our lives, right from our kitchen shelves to our work desks. The 2019-2020 annual report by the Central Pollution Control Board pins the amount of plastic waste generated in India at a whopping 26,000 tonnes a day! And out of this, about 60 percent is recycled. Now, a large chunk of this plastic that is deteriorating in landfills comprises disposable single-use plastics – bags, bottles, spoons, cutlery, plates, straws and more. We all know that plastic is non biodegradable and is toxic to the environment.
