You could easily oversimplify their relationship by saying that all of his trainee-term he was told that other idols (especially outside of his company) were not friends, but competition. He did feel that way for such a long stretch of time. In 2011 a year after his term as a trainee he and a fellow trainee JinWoo went to Japan to attend a few classes with a former idol choreographer. As circumstance had it he had run into SHINee, an idol group he was told he would one day compete with. Part of him wanted to be completely brusque towards the three out of five of them he’d run into. However it was a formal setting and he did not want to ruffle any feathers. His personality in his head would always be a lot more cruel than the one he actually displayed. JinWoo had urged them not to bother them but he decided to do it anyway; upon introducing himself as a YG Trainee the others were immediately friendly and recognized him as a peer. He was especially jealous of SHINee’s TaeMin who was a year younger than him yet he was three years ahead of him. JinWoo later joined the three SHINee members and they all exchanged numbers, from then on? it’s pretty much history. Today it was almost six years since that day they had met each other. He’d gotten to know some of them very well, others not as well. TaeMin was probably the one closest with him at this point. You wouldn’t find this in any media captures though, the two were always hanging out in private scapes rather than public. Both of them preferring the privacy of a real friendship unaffected by limelight. Oh, that’s right, I said you needed to understand how they began to understand how they’re acting now. It was nearly 2am on a Monday morning as the two watched bootleg American cartoons on the hushed television in TaeMin’s parents house. They were both pretty silent until SeungHoon turned to the sloppy haired other and spoke in the most even tone possible— “I really, want fried chicken, but I really, really, really don’t want to put any pants on.”
