... what if the monster doesn't think you're worth harming.

What if the monster takes away the only one you've ever bonded with.

What would you do?

Realizing that you are nothing to the monster, not even worth sparing a glance at...

Is it relief? Is it anger?

Is it fair? Does it make sense to be angry with the monster? To not be 'chosen'? To not be worthy of attention? To be left under a table in the shadows while someone else falls victim to the monster?

What if the monster never knew you existed?

Would it make you feel better, as long as you were being seen?

Or did you want to make yourself worthwhile to the man who took you in and made sure you were safe and cared about?

Did you intend on repaying what you consider a debt?

Would you have felt better if it were you in someone else's place?

Are you tired of always being a bystander?

The world is dangerous - the world wants to eat, and so it must eat the world first, before it is eaten. This is how living works. Life must be passed from one creature to another, something it remembers when it takes in the remnants of another creature just like itself.

Come here! Stop being afraid of me! Please just stay with me! I'm scared too! I can't let you go - I don't want you to hurt me! I need to be strong. I can't die! I can't! I can't! I'm not perfect and you're not either but together we can get closer to being something real!

When a monster in the shape of a man sees what inspired its form, how does it feel? Is it scornful? Does it pity him? Is it consumed by jealousy?

Why couldn't I be you? You have everything figured out. You know what you're doing in life. You have a role. A purpose. Things that I don't have and I won't get. Look at me!

Sometimes it is easier to ruin one's own chances. To have control over the rejection that will inevitably come. Because it knew that when the sun finally hit the ground, it would never reach what it wanted. All this time it was standing on the earth, reaching a hand up to the stars...

Slowly, it built a pile of itself in an effort to scrape the sky with its fingers. And that still wasn't enough. Is it ever going to be enough?
