       This, Obi-Wan knows. As Jedi, he and Anakin are called to put their DUTY to the Force above all else — above themselves, and above each other. This is, perhaps, the lesson Obi-Wan has FAILED in the most, both to learn and to teach. Anakin — his safety, his well being, his very life, has ALWAYS come first in Obi-Wan’s mind. While he TELLS himself he could let him go if the worst were to happen, he knows, deep down, that he’s doing nothing but lying to himself. Anakin is different — Anakin is EVERYTHING. Obi-Wan doesn’t know how to not protect his former apprentice, the man who has become his best friend.
