In the deepest pocket of my laptop bag, I kept my wedding band from the marriage to my ex-wife. It sat there hidden and never spoken of but in all honesty, I knew it was there. A constant reminder of what I viewed as a failure on my part. As I build with the love of my life, I noticed I was holding onto the the insecurities, the doubt, the heart break, spiritual and emotional baggage. I have so many insecurities about relationships of every sort that I've made horrible decisions as a sort of self sabotage to go around because Inever let it all go. (Don't get me wrong, not every relationship faltered due to my inability to cope or was built on broken principles) I can look back and say I could have made better choices. I say that not to expose cracks in my foundation but to remind us all that we can't move forward until we are putting in the work to do so. Sometimes my anxiety makes my throat tight and it's hard to breathe. I end up throwing up because I can't seem to make myself breathe properly. I calm myself by listening to podcast or watching youtube. It drowns out my thoughts in my head. I never think of harming myself, just wish I had a switch to lower the volume so I can function as a human. When it hits, I normally wanna sleep through it but it'salways there when I wake up. I loose my appetite, I stutter, I become forgetful and it's hard to focus. It sucks because I just wanna detach from the world by burying myself in a crowd full of screaming people. It feels like I could actually be at peace there. I tend to shut people out that I should bring closer to me and then surround myself with people I have less of a commitment to because in this state, I feel I'll be judged less harshly. The whole time, I have support but in those moments, my brain just hears the fears of just being. Every photo was taken on a day where my anxiety and/or depression got the best of me at some point in that day. I try to do smile checks to remind myself of who I am as to not be defined by those moments. I know that may have been heavy for some but I pray it lifted a slight burden for others thinking it's only them. I love you all and I just want to remind you: "Everybody's somebody's everything...
