I hope I get asked if I'm a feminist one more time, I hope I am able to explain that I am human. I hope I am able to explain that I'd rather my fellow human beings not to suffer or get abused or raped. I hope opinions are respected and so are the people. I hope the views are expressed productively. I hope the accusations falter and even if they are raised there are voices of concern rather than counter-attacks. I hope healthy discussions blossom. I hope my kids can ride their bicycles down the road and call it playtime rather than a 'March.' I hope they don't have to. I hope the food isn't cold and the roti is round, I hope the table is set right in the middle of the fence. And I hope there is no fence.

The Ex That Wasn’t Mine.
The thing is we haven't met. We probably never will. But I have known you for quite some time now. I knew you the moment she texted me about all the things you are, when curled up on an armchair I had discussed all your details with a significant other. I knew you and your hair and the way you know a lot about a lot of things. I think I knew you when she told me to see your pictures on facebook and I think I knew you when she picked out presents and I think I knew you when she told me you pick the best restaurants. When I slammed my fist against the table I had become quite familiar with you, and even though watching my robust companion blink away tears made me question my familiarity I think I knew you enough. It is you whom she talks about every time she says "Someone once said to me," but neither I can say the name nor can she. It is you whom I want to curse but how can I hate you when she doesn't? I am not here to insult you, although the idea does seem inviting, I am here to ask just a couple of questions; Are you where you wanted to be? I've grown to believe we abandon certain things in hopes to find better ones. Have you found them yet? Have you found all the things you left her for? All the people, all the places, do they knock at your door as often as she did? Do they stand behind you as often as she did? I believe in reaping what you sow, are you reaping it or do I get to live knowing it was a lie all along? On fine Sunday mornings and on long lonely walks do you break at least half as much as you made her believe you would without her? But most of all I want to ask you; Are you happy? Because she is."

Difficult Divisions.
"I have grown up liking the evens; there is something about a number that is divisible by two. One for me, one for my friend. One for the boy, one for the girl. One for you and one for me. But somehow there are more odds then there are evens, more of things you can't divide cleanly. No matter what you try there is always this one number that gets ripped into two, a surface destroyed, shards of broken limbs reaching out for the separated twin. And you learn to like it. You invent your own scales, you invent your own values and equations that make your halves whole. You learn to like your odds as much as you like your evens because there is also something about a number that isn't divisible by two."
