Iāve always wondered about the order in which the Harbingers were recruited into the Fatui so I made a list of my interpretation
Another one of my yap sessions below š!!
(note that this list does include some of my hcs of unknown events which may cause some bias)
0. Pierro (Director)
I believe he was already somewhat affiliated with the Tsaritsa before the Cataclysm, so after what transpired it wasnāt difficult for them to find common ground to work together. This then led them to search for members that could help serve their cause (note: she may have been close with Khaenriāah as a whole considering her son)
1. Il Capitano
Due to him being also being from Khaenriāah as well as an incredibly powerful warrior, Capitano wouldāve been one of the quickest individuals to recruit & to ensure loyalty from. Itās also quite likely that his and Pierroās statues let them already know of one another.
2. Il Dottore
Personally, I believe it was Pierro who realized the Fatui needed an intelligent individual who wasnāt afraid to cross the lines of what was considered ātabooā since the organizationās goal was to directly oppose the heavens. It was just by chance that he heard of a scholar, dubbed a āheretic,ā that had been expelled from the Akademiya for that very reason.
3. Pulcinella
For the Fatui to gain public support & proper traction, it would only be logical to have a politician representing the nation to be apart of it as well. Not only that, I expect him to have an unwavering loyalty to the Tsaritsa.
4. La Signora
The Fatuiās military developments (e.g delusions) allowed Signora to be brought into the Fatui. (the cryo delusion helping to quell her fire) I think the Tsaritsa had influence in her recruitment, understanding her grief and recognizing her potential.
5. Scaramouche
Dottoreās mission in Inazuma occurred when the original (Zandik) was still alive. While the game really only does show us one version of Dottore appearance wise, I still think based on attitude Dottore was in his 30s (mid to late is my best guess). Though it was Pierro who found and recruited him into their ranks as he saw an immense potential in him.
6. Pantalone
Dottore was 38 when Pantalone was sold off as a test subject which still puts him at one of the earlier recruits. (it honestly seems like most harbingers joined in a very short time frame considering the centuries the Harbingers have been a thing) I want to say that Scaramouche and Pantalone were extremely close when it came to who became a Harbinger first. However, Pantalone may have joined the Fatui before him, but he had to work his way up the ranks unlike Scara.
7. Sandrone
I found her position a bit hard to pinpoint, I could say that her and Pantaloneās positions could be swapped. (again, him having to climb up the ranks) Instead of being sought out, she offered her services/loyalty to the Tsaritsa in exchange for being able to continue her research (which was likely considered āforbiddenā and priceyā¦ much like someone else on this list)
*after reviewing this list, I could also see her placement somewhere FAR earlierā I desperately need more Harbinger lore
8. Columbina
Iāll be honest when I say Columbinaās timeline does confuse me a bit so I donāt really even have a guess as to WHEN she joined. Instead of Pierro being the one to recruit her, it was the Tsaritsa who offered her a place to call āhome.ā I believe that Pierro searches for individuals who he knows will be loyal to the cause. I think from Sandrone/Pantalone to Columbina was the first ābigā gap when it came to recruitments.
9. Arlecchino
After what was probably a couple hundred year gap between recruitments, (I have something to add about Crucabena at the end of this list) she was pardoned by the Tsaritsa and given her rank in the Fatui. I think itās safe to say that the Tsaritsa saw something worth saving in Arle, which in turn caused her to develop a sense of loyalty towards the Fatuiās cause
10. Childe
He is an incredibly proud Sneznhayan and an incredibly capable fighter. After getting out into the Fatuiās military, it was Pulcinella who recognized was he was capable of and pulled him into the ranks
Crucabena (extra)
***all of this next section is fueled off of my own hcs and whatnot, basically irrelevant to everything written above. Please donāt take this too seriously, itās just my delusions***
We know basically squat about her, but Iāve always been a bit interested in her character. It is known that she was closely affiliated with Dottore. This led me to believe that she was in a partnership with him & Pantalone. They all have a fairly ruthless nature which leads me to wondering if the three of them had aligning goals. As far as we know, sheās human. So, thereās a chance her situation is like Pantaloneās and Dottore found a method of prolonging her life

Am perpetually worried that Pierro or the Tsaritsa will say something along the lines of condemning Dottore or just having a complete disregard for him
He is their little stray that they plucked out of the desert 400 years agoā that is their baby
Dottosegments getting fed up with other harbingers getting them mixed up at the cafeteria so they start having meals in the lab, thereās a rotation for whose turn it is to cook that day

I never thought Columbinaās character was meant to be āscaryā even considering all the scraps we got before her debut. Keeping that in mind, I was definitely a bit dissatisfied with how she turned out. (as well as Nod Krai as a whole) I just feel like that wasnāt the direction her character was supposed to take.
Just a collection of my own opinions and thoughts regarding her character PRE ingame debut
Iāve found it difficult to find people who talk about her character that donāt have the same āall you wanted was hype moment and aura,ā ājust say you didnāt play the archon quests,ā or ācolumbina just waifu bait slopā etc. etc. <ā Responses like these are a big reason behind this post, mostly for me than anything.
Now, her writing isnāt as terrible as a lot of people made it out to be, but it wasnāt great either. Some of her story feels illogical which I think boils down to hoyo being unable to write morally grey characters.
Of course I have no way of knowing what was going on behind the scenes in terms of writing, though I think itās pretty apparent that Nod Krai wasnāt an originally planned region. Thereās absolutely nothing wrong with that, it just made a gap that needed to be filled with certain characters and a storyline. To me, it seemed like hoyo wanted to make one of the most major roles (the moon goddess) be an anticipated character to help with this new region. Which this wound up to be Columbina, she had enough left unknown about her that she could fit into that slot. This is all gonna boil down to what Iāve seen and personal interpretation given previous info. Itās fine if you donāt agree. I am not looking to argue.
The first time we see her is in āA Winter Nightās Lazzo.ā Due to the Harbinger cloak, we only see a few defining pieces, those being her headpiece and blindfold. Both show resemblance to seraphs- 6 distinct wings in her headpiece and the blindfold as the āwingsā seraphs used to cover themselves. (the reasons why seraphs or angles as whole do this vary a bit) Iāve seen a few people argue that many other characters have angel motifs while not being an angel. This is true, however, considering those were the only two features given to us with nothing else besides her name and title, it felt intentional that was all we got to see. Besides angels, doves were something we could associate with her early on. Doves and angels are symbolically similar. Columbina means ālittle dove.ā Her emblem in the Fatui was the weeping dove. Her singing also associates her with the dove due to the lullaby-like nature of what she sings and how she sings it.

Generally, thatās all we had of columbina visually from 2022 to 2025. Given that time period, itās obvious people are going to base their interpretations of her character on those details. Then of course, we have the voice lines relating to her. Childe, Scaramouche, and Arlecchino, being the only playable harbingers at the time, had really the only voice lines about her.

Childe about Damselette:
āThe Fatui Harbingers are ranked by strength, and I have no idea why that girl is No. 3. Iād test my skills with every Harbinger who ranks above me if I had the chance, but when it comes to herā¦ something doesnāt feel right. Anyway, you should be careful around her.ā
(something unrelated I want to take note of is that when he says āby strengthā I donāt think thatās on a physical scale. I donāt think Pantalone or Pulcinella could beat him in a fightā¦)
Scaramouche about Damselette:
āLet me ask: what should you do if you were to encounter a ādamselā who is oblivious and innocent at any given time, and unconcerned and unfeeling in any given situation? If it were me, I could at least challenge her to a fight. But if it were youā¦ with your conscience, I would stay away from her.ā
Arlecchino about Damselette:
āShe is a very special Harbinger. Lose her a question, and the answer you receive will be entirely unpredictable, if she sees fit to give a proper answer at all. Regardless, any answer you do receive is sure to be an interesting one.ā

Both Childe and Scaramouche flat out tell the Traveler to be cautious of her. Some people like to pull the āunreliable narratorā card, but thatās just lousy writing when it comes to a character thereās so little info about. And one might say that the first half of Scaramoucheās dialogue is pretty accurate to how Columbina turned out to be, but what of the second half? That certainly doesnāt align. What Arlecchino said holds true, but really only for the first interaction the traveler has with her and it was hardly anything that unpredictable. (Not to mentions the travelerās complete disregard for being cautious with her???)
I never was one to think that she was going to be this pure evil character who tries to kill the traveler or have all these āhypeā and āauraā moments. I didnāt think her character was going to be an ally of the traveler either.
Throwing all that was given about her into a blender, these would be the results Iād expect:
Think of how Nicole is an angel and how she gave up her voice to keep her physical form & power, Columbina also was an angel. (some had speculated she couldāve been a fallen angel which I do like the idea of) So like Nicole, Columbina had to give something up. Due to her blindfold and Arle & Scaraās voice lines, one could assume that she gave up and sight and some of her sanityā I donāt know if thatās the correct way to phrase that?? Which would explain her unpredictable responses and how she is both āoblivious and innocentā & āunconcerned and unfeeling.ā
As for what her role would be in canon? I have no definitive idea. All I can say is that she wasnāt originally a moon goddess. This next bit is more of my own headcanon(???) on her personality and nature. I think sheād like to speak in riddles, be it apart of the price she paid or just being herself. She likes to confuse and deceive in a way she might deem playful, even if in reality her misdirection could be harmful. <ā she might not understand humans all that well.
Everything I wrote prior has nothing to do with any of her appearances or actions in canon. Itās all based on pre-canon details given. Columbina in canon, personality wise, doesnāt follow a lot of what we were given. And while she did keep the shown features from lazzo, her outfit added a lot of moon motifs that were previously completely unknown to her character. Iāve seen a lot of people telling others who were upset by how Columbinaās character ended up being portrayed say things along the lines āyou didnāt pay attention to canon,ā āloreskipper,ā and so on.
While I donāt think her canon character is back, it definitely lacks in some aspects.
All in all, I think itās okay to be upset being how Columbina turned out. The same can be said about all the other Harbingers as well. With such little detail, people will build their own versions of characters like Capitano, Columbina, and Sandrone to make something out of their character. Itās not wrong for them to be unhappy when chars donāt meet expectations.
Every Fatui scout had to admit that Zandikās late-night āconcertsā with him playing the piano and Pantalone playing the violin were irritating.
However, it was far worse to hear just the violin at 3 oāclock in the morning, wailing sadly through the palace. There was no other instrument to join in with the melody. There was no other person who could play. There was no longer any dialogue between the instruments. Just the lonely, melancholic wail of the violin. Every note was drawn out, as if the violinist himself were trying to express his despair, or perhaps he simply had no strength leftā¦ Dottoreās absence could be heard in every note, in every bar where his instrument was meant to sound.
Yet no one ever dared to interrupt him, as if everyone understood how hard it was to wait for a pianist who would never turn up.
Something about Pantalone that I find incredibly interesting is that the name āFeofanā is the Slavic version of the name āTheophanes.ā Itās known that his name does mean āmanifestation of godā which is already fascinating given his character.
Theophanes adds another layer to this. The name is the heavenly principals is Phanes. See whatās similar?
Both the meaning of Feofanās name plus the connection to the name of the first descender likely sealed his fate from birth. Given his medical records and new info from the āBlood Red Evidenceā artifact set, his life has been filled with nothing but misfortune.

Despite Pulcinella thinking that Dottore and Pantalone were just messing around in the counseling room just for no reason, I truly believe those two used it for itās intended purpose
The new artifact set revealed more of Pantaloneās past. His hometown favored violence, especially towards āunruly freaks.ā His mother sold him off to debt collectors, then to being screwed over by nobles before being sold to Dottoreās lab. Itās also speculated that his village had cannibals and that even Pantalone may have been forced to turn to cannibalism himself. (again, not explicitly stated) Iāve always loved cannibalism and how it can affect a personā what drove them to that point, what theyāre reaction was, lasting effects, etc.
Anyway, point being, both Dottore and Pantalone had terrible pasts. I wouldnāt put it past those two to have a sit down and trauma dump on each other for hours. Then after the fact, laughing at the absurdity of it all, only to never speak of such again. Hence why Pulcinella could never enact his revenge on them
When Pierro brought the Fatuiās newest Harbinger, a famished scholar, from the scorching Sumerian deserts to the frigid lands of Sneznhaya, he failed to account for one thing: Zandikās constitution. Despite the manās egregious ambitions, he was entirely human.
The Jester figured after a few full meals and a proper place to rest, the latest addition to the ranks could be presented to Her Majesty for his initiation. What he failed to see was that the emaciated state of Zandik (also taking into account the factor of his motion sickness on the steamships preventing him from keeping much food and drink down) drastically weakened his immune system.
Not long after sailing into the icy waters of the North, Zandik fell illā even worse that the sea sickness. Not that he would ever admit it to anyone, even the Tsaritsa herself, Pierro felt the slightest twinge of panic. Hardly noticeable, but it was there nonetheless. Ever since the Cataclysm, he hadnāt worried about illness. Even before then, Pierro hardly got sick, let alone deal with others who were.
Of course, he kept the scholarās condition away from the rest of his subordinates onboard lest they grow suspicious of the quality of their new superior.
He did his best to deal with the delirium given what was available. Many bowls of warm broth and bread, medications that helped minimally, and a cold compress that the boy absolutely hated. After a couple days Zandik became mostly coherent again, only he was rather humiliated by the situation. Still, he never rejected Pierroās assistance and even leaned into his touch, not that heād ever admit to it.
The ship was set to land in a few hours, at least. Pierro was grateful enough Zandik would be able to walk himself, however, more layers for the Sumerian was a must. Heād have to explain the situation to the Tsaritsaā¦ eventually. The induction ceremony would have to be delayed by at least a week. Giving Zandikās pale blue hair a little ruffle, the Director got up to orders for the smoothest arrival possible.
