annie’s public service announcement about urls, fandoms, and other stuff
it has come to my attention that recently, two people changed their urls to something similar to mine. i fully believe that they did not do it on purpose at all and that they had no intention to copy me. regardless, i can’t help but feel like my ideas and originality are being copied (albeit unintentionally). i asked them (privately) about this, and asked if they would be willing to change to avoid confusion and me being accused of copying, but they believe that their lack of intent is enough. that is their prerogative, but regardless, my feelings are still hurt. i’m not mentioning their urls for two reasons: to protect their privacy (concerned parties are aware of who this is about) and because i do not want to affiliate with them and have unfollowed/soft-blocked them at their suggestion.
however, i now feel like this fandom is a place where you can get away with copying people just by saying that you didn’t mean to. as such, i do not feel like my creativity belongs here, since i now consider it to be at risk. further, i’ve been basically told that i should not have voiced my concerns about it because it made people feel uncomfortable. i think you can understand why i do not feel comfortable here.
as such, i will be disengaging myself from the phantom of the opera rp community. aside from my girlfriend, i will only be roleplaying with other fandoms, and i will be unfollowing everyone in the phantom community. on the very slim chance that anyone would still like to write with me, please contact me via ask or ims.
i’m sorry this has caused a divide between us, but i stand by how i feel. happy roleplaying to everyone.
eta: i would also like to apologize for the pettiness. it is not the solution to anything, and was nothing more than a misguided attempt at venting. the post has been deleted, but i won’t deny it happened -- and i take full responsibility for it.
