✨Queenie✨

Plot - I loved the themes in this series. Love being a MAJOR part of the story. Friendship, betrayal, family, race, mental health played their roles too and it was unpacked in it’s raw state. Being a 20 something year old trying to figure things out on your own isn’t easy, especially with all the cards Queenie was dealt with coupled with the consequences of her actions. Her story could be seen as typical but I loved that it was so relatable. If you’re looking for something that speaks to being a young adult trying to navigate or overcome loss, betrayal, friendship, family, reconciliation, love and all the things, then this is definitely a series you’d be locked in to, especially if you’re looking for confirmation that it all works out in the end.

Cast Chem - Dionne Brown, you are a star! The way the entire casts flow centered Queenie was immaculate. The awkward relationship with her colleagues, the different backgrounds and personalities of her friends, her family dynamic, her romantic partners, phew! The cast on this was superb imo

Rewatch Value - Much like Insecure (2016), Queenie is a series you can go back and watch and probably even identify what stage in your life you’re in. It’s never gonna get old 🙂‍↕️

Ending Satisfaction- I love a story with a good ending. A very satisfying, realistic and affirming ending✨

Another Spike Lee Joint!

Much like a Tarantino film, you need to know and understand Spike Lee’s directorial style, common themes and cinematography history. Very niche director in my opinion and I think that’s why I kinda liked this one

✨Highest2Lowest✨

Plot - I thought this story was well told, a little on the lazy side compared to his previous films but I thought he touched on really nice themes - wealth, family, ego, ambition, power - just to name a few. I loved how we got to see the main characters thoughts play out but what I REALLY enjoyed was how we got to see him take control of the situation with the “younger version of himself” (Archie) towards the peak. The ending was not what I was expecting at all but new beginnings need new methods I guess.

Cast Chem - I thought it was okay, the disconnect with the police cast might’ve been intentional (considering the relationship authority and black people have in the US), but outside of that it was cool. Kinda wanna see more of Archie and his baby mama, I thought ASAP and Princess Nokia killed their roles and I loved how they each had their moment with Denzel.

Rewatch Value - If you didn’t catch it the first time then defs give it another try🙂‍↕️

Ending Satisfaction - I wasn’t entirely impressed with it. A little on the cliche side but it was a happy ending 🙂‍↕️

✨The Girlfriend✨

Plot - What a beautiful and twisted plot this was! Not what I was expecting AT ALL! A beautiful love story that leaned on the typical “leave my son alone” edge but it carried the story well enough for you to understand both the villain and the victim. We got wealth, travel, humble beginnings, a fascinating portrayal of motherly love, passion, lies, classism, old flames rekindled and dare I say the most captivating POV sequence in a drama/thriller. A lot of themes to look forward to coupled with amazing storytelling.

Cast Chem - Outstanding! So much so that I even forgot that I’m watching people doing their job, ✨acting✨. From the supporting cast to the lead cast members, 10s across the board. Hats off to Olivia Cooke (Cherry) and Laurie Davidson (Daniel).

Rewatch Value - This is one of those ones you rewatch with someone cause you’re putting them onto the show and you wanna see their reactions to the plot twists😂

Ending Satisfaction - I think it ended on a note that doesn’t need anymore explaining cause what we needed to know just needed to be confirmed or needed to be proven wrong and it did exactly that. I wouldn’t be mad at another season though

✨Materialists✨

Plot - Loved the plot! Reminded me of something straight from the early 2000s. I loved how she had options, wouldn’t advocate for going back to your ex but he loved her down and I think that’s a valid reason. Her career was an interesting one especially after the plot twist. I appreciate/rolled my eyes at her staying true to her heart at the end, but I RESPECT that she didn’t want to pretend just to get the picture perfect love story.

Cast Chem - So perfect, nothing from my side 🙂‍↕️

Rewatch Value - I would 100% add this to the list of movies I rewatch just to get a shot of dopamine. It’s a typical chic flick.

Ending Satisfaction - She stayed true to her heart so I think that’s what makes a good movie.
