Hi just curious about what you think of the whole avatar movie getting out and if youve seen any clips what you think of the characters and their designs now
HI! Thank you for the ask <3 my answer is a little complex so I hope you donāt feel disappointed by it lolā¦ Iāll try not to be long-winded
To sum it up, Iām really bummed for the artists that worked so hard to make this happen. I hope they arenāt too severely impacted by it, income-wise, though it seems unlikely to me that they wonāt be. Assuming they were getting paid well/fairly in the first place, which, given the way the movie industry respects animators/artists, Iād say they probably werenātā¦ I digress. The filmmakers themselves have stated that theyāre pretty disappointed with this outcome, and my heart goes out to them. Our society makes it hard enough as it is to choose art as a career path, so itās tough to see a blow like this that further cements the way we as a society view art.
That being said, it is my personal view that the weight of moral responsibility sits primarily in the hands of the person/people who leaked it. At this stage, the damage is done and the whole situation seems to have shifted to a debate about piracy now vs. piracy later, and thatās such a gray area to me that it seems extremely plausible that both sides of the debate can be right at the same time. By now it seems pointless to judge people for their decisions to either watch now OR not watch until the official release. Maybe that seems like a cop-out, or maybe it wasnāt what you were asking at all lol, but thatās where Iām at with it. I will say that if people are in the financial position to contribute in some way, there may be opportunities down the road to celebrate and support the artistsā work, perhaps through platforming whatever they create next, or some other option.
I have seen a few screencaps, briefly, but no clips. The design is not what I expected, but undeniably beautiful! The clothing design is really exciting to me, so gorgeous and while I didnāt see many pics, what I did see featured varied outfits and I LOVE that. Iām so looking forward to seeing their finished product. The characters themselves look stunning, although I confess that mostly Iāve just seen a few pics of Aang and like, a couple pics of Katara. I havenāt seen enough to even speculate what happens in the movie lol, and certainly not enough to feel the tone of it, which, to me, is one of the most impactful aspects of whether or not the character design is fitting or not.
Strange as it may seem, I donāt even see myself watching the movie until looongg after its released, and not due to any moral standpoint, but simply due to the fact that I am anxious about whatever changes are about to happen to a world Iāve spent twenty years loving. I saw the airing of the pilot episode by accident alone after school one day (lol showing my age), and Iāve been IN LOVE ever since. I saw every new episode as it aired. I cried at the finale. Itās the showās producersā to do with as they please, I suppose, but in my limited experience, it isnāt often that a show is renewed with something as good or better than the original. This is, perhaps, a cynical outlook, but I canāt express the importance of this showās fundamental concepts have been in shaping some of my thought processes as a person. If nothing else, I hope they kept the spirit of it.
