8. Do you think you’re attractive?
Sybill never thought of herself as attractive in the traditional sense of the word. She was never going to have the kind of attention that people like Lily Evans or Marlene Mckinnon got, but she did believe she had her own unique look, her own little traits. She believed she was pretty in her own way. Even without the physical attractiveness aspect, she hoped her soul shined through enough. So far, as far as she knew, nobody had ever had a crush on her but then she herself had only ever had one crush in her life. One she was not willing to tell anyone about. She’d never kissed anyone, never held hands with anyone who wasn’t her friend. Sybill didn’t mind this too much, she was supremely independent anyway, she was so stuck in her own ways, it would be difficult to compromise for someone else. There was only one person that Sybill thought was worth this but they had never yet asked her to compromise a single thing anyway.
Function No 3// @crystha
Sybill Trelawney wasn't a big club person. She was only in one club and that really was quite enough. Besides the astronomy club was different to the others. However she'd promised Crystha she would give charms club a go. She liked charms, she was good at them, but she preferred to practice in her own time, with her own methods. She was stood outside the door to the charms club waiting for her friend. Her mind wondering into to various daydreams as it always did. Some of them were completely odd and based in fantasy, others a little more real. This particular one was the latter. She snapped out of the daydream as she heard footsteps approaching, her cheeks a little flushed by the reaches of her own imagination.
“Afternoon’“ She chimed cheerfully as her friend approached “are you surprised I actually turned up- ‘cause I sorta of am- but here I am, ready to shimmy out of my comfort zone- just for you”
stanthemanabbott:
Quickening his pace to fall into the same step as his Ravenclaw friend, Stan chuckled as Sybill seemed startled by his appearance beside her. She must have been deep in thought about something else when he approached, which Stan was curious about.
A warm smile on his features as they continued to walk, he shrugged his shoulders. “ I was shocked, I was wondering what I had done on my Sybill to make you so determined to avoid me,” Stan winked, a laugh falling from his lips. He had always found it comforting to speak to Sybill, she always knew how to make him laugh and like most of their friend group, she wasn’t afraid to be herself which Stan admired. Over the years, she had become more like a sister to him than a friend. “Adventures? Well I went down to the Greenhouses to check on my Wiggentree. It seems to be doing well.” Stan pointed out, pretty pleased with how his plants were coming along. “Other than that? Nothing…but now I’m here to bother you.” He smiled before a slight crease formed between his eyebrows, concerned. “You seemed a little preoccupied before? Is everything alright?” @sybillptrelawney·
Sybill rolled her eyes and playfully hit him on the shoulder “like you could ever do anything to make me wish to avoid you” she joked. She couldn’t imagine her life without Stan. So many of her classmates focused on romantic relationships. They had never been that important to Sybill. To her, friendships like the one she had with Stan were so much more important. Less fleeting. When she met Stan, he’d filled a sort of void in her life. She knew that if she ever did get married and have children, Stan was the person they would call uncle. He was too much of a fixture in her life now for them ever to fall out. “You know I couldn't go a day without your little angel face in my life, idiot” she teased.
“Yes, I was actually just trying to remember what the recommended reading for Transfiguration was” She replied honestly. Her and her friends didn’t really have any secrets. Maybe one or two, but that was it. Everyone had a right to their private life. “I got distracted and I have no idea what it was no- a super interesting answer i’m aware”

It is my intention to astonish you all.
Far from the Madding Crowd (2015) dir. Thomas Vinterberg
edgar-bones:
Edgar laughed at the idea of Syb having whiskers and cat ears. “I’m sure you looked great.” he laughed. “Way to make the best out of the situation. And of course, I’d never abandon you.” Edgar was fiercely loyal and a good friend, he often found himself prioritising his friend’s needs over his own, which wasn’t a bad thing when his friends returned the sentiments, but it did get exhausting when he poured 110 percent of himself into a friendship and only got 10 percent back.
Edgar got goosebumps as Syb spoke. He believed her, of course, why wouldn’t he? There were stranger things in this world other than prophetic gifts. “I don’t think you should worry about stopping something you don’t know will happen for sure just yet. Changing the future sounds exhausting and if there’s anything I know about fate, it happens regardless.” He mused. He had often thought about his future and what he’d do and everything he wanted to accomplish before he died, but if there was one thing that kept him steady was the thought that everything happens for a reason and his fate was already set in stone so he may as well go with the flow. “That doesn’t mean it’s not scary. I wish I knew how you felt, that way I could help you make sense of it.” She shrugged with a light smile.
“Of course not! It’s interesting!” He paused, thinking about what he could add to the conversation. “Do you think it has anything to do with those blood purists? I feel like they’ve been more aggressive this year than last.” || @sybillptrelawney
“I did look pretty great” Sybill nodded “maybe I should bring it back as a look” she acted it out, putting a hand above her head in a paw shape and then laughing at herself. She was partly serious though. Sybill had never cared to follow the trends when it come to fashion, in fact the odder the better. She would have no qualms in walking about dressed like a cat for a whole day.“I know” she smiled softly at him “why do you think I keep you around” she joked.
Sybill nodded as she took in Edgar’s words. She always appreciated his advice. He was usually pretty good at helping her rationalise things. “You’re probably right” she agreed “it’s just getting harder and harder to ignore.” She could feel some of it starting to affect her emotions. It had been a while since the side effects of her gift had made her ill, but she felt like another episode wasn’t far away. “You help more than know” she told him “really, you’re a great listener and your advice is always good, it’s more than enough so don’t worry.” Syb had known for a while, that despite the wonderful group of friends that she had, her gift did isolate her. It wasn’t their fault, it was just a fact. She would never tell them that though, they helped as much as they could and that’s all that was important.
Syb played with the grass in front of her as she thought about his question “I think so” she said after a few moments “that’s what scares me so much, there’s so many people they can hurt, they’re bad enough already- I don’t want them to get any more confident.” Syb was scared for both herself and her friends. She could stand up for herself against bullies, but she was concerned about how much the power could shift. She couldn’t protect everyone at the same time.

regulusxarcturus:
regulus and sybill’s friendship wasn’t one that was widely advertised. they had a few things in common – at grimmauld place, the black family carried many books in their house and regulus spent a lot of his time before hogwarts trying to make sense of the words on the page and perhaps that’s what drew him to writing. at first, regulus wrote stories about goblins and giants. however, after arriving to school is when the slytherin started to pen down his thoughts onto parchment and began to understand himself, who he was as a member of the blacks. “go on, then,” he encouraged, wanting to know what it was even though it was likely the boy wasn’t going ever read it. @sybillptrelawney
“Well it’s obviously a muggle book” she stated, knowing it was slightly awkward territory to be stepping in to “but it’s great- so i’m just going to recommend it to you anyway. It’s called Nineteen Eighty-Four- it’s set in this like dystopian future where people are constantly being watched- their lives are completely controlled by this political party- I don’t want to spoil it, but it really is a fascinating read if you’re willing to give it a chance.” Reading it, she’d wondered if Regulus might relate to some of the characters in the book, in a way his family seemed to control everything he was supposed to do or think.

edgar-bones:
Edgar was grateful for his friends. Sure, he got a long with most people, he knew how to be charming and polite, but he wasn’t always allowed to be himself around everyone. Not like he was able to be himself around Sybill and the rest of the group. He sighed and flopped backwards, exhausted from his sprint. “I’ve been busy yeah, haven’t we all?” He asked as he moved over onto his side, propping his head up with his arm. “It’s actually pretty embarrassing.” He blushed a bit at himself. “I was reading my history of magic textbook and i fell asleep somewhere during the formation of the ministry. I only woke up because a group of first years were laughing how I had drooled all over my parchment.” He picked at a few blades of grass as he spoke before looking up at his friend.
“So that’s why I was late. I apologise. How was your day?” He often met Sybill for an evening chat, the cool air and stars above relaxed him and reminded him of the nights at home when he lay in the fields with Apollo, their family dog, waiting for his parents to return from work, imagining what adventures Henry and Amelia were getting up too. Sybill had trusted in him, and he enjoyed the fact that his friend could trust him and he wasn’t about to let anyone down. “Anything new from the universe?” He asked genuinely. Many people would tease Sybill for her alternative ways of using magic, but they truly fascinated Edgar and he loved hearing about it all.
Sybill couldn’t help but giggle softly as Edgar offered his explanation. She couldn’t help but picture the scenario. Imaging how peaceful he would look sleeping. A smile naturally appearing on her face at the thought. “Well if it makes you feel any better, I feel asleep once in the library, and when I woke up someone had hexed cat whiskers on my face” Syb explained. She still didn’t know to this day who had done it, but she hadn’t minded that much, objectively it was quite funny and she’d just charmed herself some matching ears and carried on with her day “so it could’ve been so much worse- but really again, stop apologising, you don’t need to- I know you’d never purposely abandon me.”
Syb had got quite attached to these regular chats with Edgar. There was a calmness between the two of them that Syb didn’t have with her other friends. Not that she was complaining. She loved all her of friends, but with Edgar it was just different. She didn’t know how to explain it, she just knew it was. Perhaps it was because he was so supportive of her gifts, all her friends were supportive, but Edgar had always seemed the most genuinely interested in them. She shifted to lay down and mirrored his position.
“Nothing new today” She answered. Some days she got stronger feelings than others, she was annoyingly aware that her gift was less stable than her grandmother’s. A fact she tried her best not to be concerned about, but she always felt felt she was living in the shadow of something she could never live up to. “This whole year has been...different though” she continued “i’m not sure I know how to explain it but things just seem heavier, like something is building- but it’s not clear enough, I can’t tell what it is- I just know it’s not good and I want to stop it- but how do you stop something when you don’t know what it is.” Syb realised she’d gone off on a tangent, and blushed a little “sorry i’m bringing down the mood aren’t I”

fckoffcassie:
Reece sighed trying her best to not tap her foot as Amos droned on at the end of Quidditch practice. She was anxious to meet up with her friends, she felt like it had been ages since she had last seen Sybill, plus she couldn’t wait to see how Sybill’s hair was going to turn out. She practically jumped out of her seat when she was finally free. She moved quickly through the emptying corridors a smile growing on her face as she got closer to the room of requirements. As the door opened she heard the soft music floating through the air “this is brilliant” she said brightly as she moved further into the room. She embraced Sybill quickly before turning to examine the room one more time. “So what color are you going with for your hair?” she asked a smile on her lips.
Of course Cassie was running late. When wasn’t she though? The young witch had been too caught up writing in her notebook that time really had slipped away from her. Though before going to meet her friends, she’d swung by the kitchens - much to the elves disagreement -. She was always as kind and gracious to them as she could be though, even teasing them a little with a warm smile. Cassie always thought they put up with her mainly because of her sister Mel. Melina always had a knack for winning everyone over, despite how many times Cassie would accidentally knock something over with her lack of coordination; she was sure she put up with her for Mel’s sake.
“Sorry I’m late I got caught-” Though her words were cut off as Cassie’s eyes fell upon the scene before her and two of her best friends. A wide smile pulling immediately onto her features. “Sweet mother of merlin-” The irish witch gasped astonished as her eyes flickered around the room in amazement. “Ye really out done yeself this time ye glorious room, thank ye-” The witch spoke with a bright smile as she took a minute to really soak up the atmosphere before nearing her friends. “Feckin’ hell this place is fantastic- right lads I hope ye’re hungry I brought spoils.” She spoke opening her back to pull out some of the snacks she’d managed to snag from the kitchen. Marshmallows, biscuits, cheese and crackers, some pumpkin juice, some chocolate; figuring there’d be something for everyone. “Come on Syb- spill the craic will ye? Come one tell us the colour; ye goin’ a different shade of pink or throwin’ us a curve ball with somethin’ new?” @sybillptrelawney @reecexholyhead
Sybill jumped up to greet her friends, running to hug them one my one. “You two are not going to let me get away with keeping it a surprise are you?” She raised her eyebrow teasingly “if you must know, it is different, definitely not pink, something you’d probably never guess.” that’s all she was going to give them, partly because she didn’t quite how to to explain the colour she was going for. It would be easier to just show them
At the mention of food, Syb’s ears pricked up. “I’m claiming the chocolate frogs” she stated. They had always been her favourite. She had gained a very large pile of cards now. “Anyway, never mind me” Syb changed the subject as she rooted through the bag. “What are you guys getting up to today, seems I was not the one who suggested this idea, i’m guessing you have plans”

sorrowsofsinclair:
Another day, another asshole. It was routine by now, he knew he should be used to the cruel words and snide comments. Some days he’d fight against it. Throw a sarcastic comment back as if that were his shield against the prejudice views. Though mainly it was only when others were around. Particularly more impressionable younger muggle borns, he knew that seeing someone like them being punched was the last thing they needed. But alone? He just took it. Maybe a part of him believing he deserved it, almost like a kind of karma after everything that had happened. Here he was again. Trying to push his way out of a group of Slytherins who always enjoyed making him their target. Truly? He was too tired to shoot back anything sarcastic. Instead he took it much to their annoyance that there was no push back to make it interesting. Instead his silence had led to a punch straight to the jaw. He’d had worse. Besides it happened so often now that it felt like his skin was decorated in tiny marks from the abuse of others. He was about to finally say something back to them calling him mudblood for the hundredth time, bringing up his parents death so off offhandedly it stung, when he caught the sight of a familiar Ravenclaw. The last thing he wanted was for her to get involved and hurt because of him so he called over to her before she got too close “Sybil don’t- go back inside it’s fine- I’m fine-“ @sybillptrelawney
Sybill skipped across the grounds. She just seen such an unusual creature in the forest. Something she had never seen before in the many times she’d ventured there. She was headed over to the library now to do some research before the image of it in her mind disappeared. It was too fascinating not to investigate and she had plenty of time still before dinner.
She was pulled out of her thoughts by a loud noise. A group of loud Slytherins, shouting about something. Nothing new there- wait, did they just hit somebody? She turned directions and headed over to them. As she got closer she saw who they were attacking. Jackson, he’d be kind the last time they’d spoken. Despite the boy’s protest she certainly wasn’t just going to leave and let them get away with hurting someone. It wasn’t her style.
“Don’t you think it’s pathetic that you need to gang up on someone” Sybil shot at the group “not big enough on your own.” She moved closer, trying to see if she could position herself between them and the boy. “I’d probably run along now, unless you want me to curse you with my freaky voodoo magic.” She waved her hands in the air for added effect. Sybill knew the rumours about her. They could be used to her advantage sometimes. Clearly it had done the trick this time, cowards. “Are you okay?” Sybill asked, rushing over to the boy

Edgar raced down the spiral staircase, jumping to skip a couple of steps and definitely knocking over some students by accident as he did so. He shouted an apology behind him but kept going. He was late, and punctuality was a value he tried to hold himself too. He raced out the castle and into the courtyard, his robes flowing behind him. He had promised Syb that he’d meet her at the lake that evening and had completely forgot and had fallen asleep in the library. By the time he woke up, he was already 10 minutes late.
“Merlin’s pants. I’m sorry I’m late!” He shouted as he say Syb already at the lake. “I’ve got no excuse. I hate being late. I’m sorry.” He said between gasps for air. “I love these chats, I wouldn’t miss them.” He plopped down onto the grass beside his friend and raised his arms above his head to catch his breath. “Hello.” He finally added with a smile.
Sybill had taken off her tights and was sat with her legs dipped in to the water. She was waiting for Edgar, they’d arranged to meet, he was a little late but she didn’t mind. It wasn’t like him not to be on time, and she knew how time could easily get away from you, so she wasn’t at all annoyed. She was just taking in the fresh air.
It was only a few minutes later that she heard someone running towards her, she shook her head at his apology. Edgar was the kind of person worth waiting for. He was one of the sweetest people she knew. Sybill didn’t have the easiest time trusting people, but he was one of the very few people she absolutely and completely did trust. He was also the only person in her friendship group that knew about her friendship with Regulus. She wasn’t ashamed of it, but the more people that knew, the more likely it was to get out and become gossip.
“Don’t be silly, it’s fine, it’s only a few minutes” she said softly, taking her legs out of the water and drying them off with a charm, before tucked them under her. “I take it it’s been a busy day, everything okay?” Like she’d mentioned before, it wasn’t like him to be late, she just wanted to make sure.

stanthemanabbott:
As an only child, Stan had grown to consider his friends as family. They were as close as Stan would ever be to having a actual siblings, he considered Melina, Liz and Edmund as though they were his own siblings and also Sybill, a Ravenclaw that he had become quite close with upon joining Hogwarts. There was a certain disposition surrounding Sybill that upon first meeting her, Stan knew that she would become one of his best friends. They understood each other and made each other laugh. Plus, there was not many people who would listen to him gush about his celebrity crush, Stevie Nicks without complaint. He had been on his way from Herbology when he caught his friend walking across the courtyard.
Slinging his bag over his shoulder, he tightened his grip on the fabric strap to ensure that it didn’t fall as he sped up in his pace. “Oi, Trelawney. I hope you aren’t trying to avoid me or something?” Stan called towards her, teasing as he attempted to catch up.
@sybillptrelawney
What was that book called again? Oh why hadn’t she just written it down. She was so easily distracted some times. It wasn’t her fault, she just couldn’t help but notice the boy in the front row and how his aura seemed unusually dark that morning. Not that she even knew the boy well. She’d couldn’t even think of his name. It just wasn’t something she could easily ignore. Naturally, she’d noticed at the one point the professor had listed the books for recommended reading. She could go back and ask but she didn’t want to be a pain.
It took her a few seconds to realise that somebody had been shouting her name. She almost jumped as Stan appeared next to her. Her mind really was scattered today. Perhaps she needed to go get one of her crystals to bring her more focus.
“Avoid you? how could I possibly, you wound me deeply” she teased back. The day she’d met Stan was one of her favourite days at Hogwarts, Cassie had introduced them and at first she was a little unsure, but she quickly found out that had an immense amount in common, and now she thought of him like a brother. Secretly she’d always thought that him and Cassie were destined to be together, it was clear to her than Stan liked Cassie. Cassie on the other hand, she wasn’t sure “what adventures have you being getting up to on this cold and dreary morning”

regulus understood. at grimmauld place in northwestern london, he was stuck in a townhouse surrounded by building after building – spending most of his life in a cold house that constantly felt like it was on the edge of disintegrating with the tense relationships and personalities that lived in it. every once in a while, he found time to be alone out here if only just for a few moment’s peace. “just writing down some things so i don’t forget,” regulus told her. “there’s a reason i carry a remembrall with me most of the time.” @sybillptrelawney
“Hmm yes, I often wonder if I should get one of those” Sybill considered. With everything that went on in her mind, she did have trouble remembering everything she needed to do. Thankfully for her, she was also very organised, but still she wondered if it might be helpful as she headed towards her busiest years at Hogwarts “my brain is like a sieve at the best of times- I get very distracted awfully easily- i’m like a magpie, I see something shiny and that’s it, my focus is gone”
“Talking of things i’d forgot, I have a book recommendation for you” she advised lightly hitting his leg. It was a muggle book of course “I re-read it over the summer and couldn’t help but think that you might like it- it’s a bit of a dystopian novel, but it’s quite well recommended”
