       ❝ what am i supposed to do about that ?? ❞ connor questioned, having assumed the girl was talking to him rather than to herself. he had just recently arrived himself, so he wouldn’t have been able to help her even if he had wanted to. which he didn’t.

“O-oh, I’m sorry, I didn’t see you there!” Amai said, embarrassed that she had been caught talking to herself. She turned to the man shyly, feeling somewhat awkward, but she gave him a polite smile. She didn’t seem to notice his tone. “I am new to this city, do you know any place where I would be able to buy some groceries?”

“So that’s what this land is called?” he breath nervously as he looked at her.

“Yes, this is New York City. Are you new here as well?” Amai asked, somewhat glad to find someone who was as confused and lost as she was.

“get a map silly ! here, you can look at mine,” tootie said with a smile, pulling the map out of her back pocket and offering it to the other. 

“Ah! Thank you very much!” Amai said, taking the map from the kind girl that had offered it.

“bigger than… where, sorry?” sam asked, unsure of whether or not the woman was talking to him, but not really wanting to be rude.

“Buraza Town. It’s the town where I come from, in Japan.” Amai explained, once she realised the man was talking to her.

Amai nodded, turning towards the woman who had spoken to her. Some boys had been bothering her, and she probably should have told them to step off, but Amai had never been very good at being assertive, even when she needed to be.

1: "I think I may have seen you before..."

2: "Hey! Watch it!"

3: "Oh my god are you okay?"

4: "Have we met...?"

5: "Were you at that one party?"

6: "Remember me?"

7: "I know you don't know me but I love your shirt."

8: "Quick, pretend to look like you're talking to me."

9: "Hey, is that your dog?"

10: "Service takes forever here."

11: "Don't mean to sound cliche, but do you come here often?"

12: "I wouldn't sit there if I were you."

13: "This is gonna be a long plane ride."

14: "Can you turn that music down?"

15: "People are trying to sleep!"

16: "I'm your new neighbour."

17: "Is that who I think it is?"

18: "Be quiet!"

19: "Is that your son/daughter?"

“ Oh, my God! ” Newt’s arms flew upward, soaring into the air, his hands pressing into his head as he did a quick little spin. “ Finally! ”

He chuckled, his laugh growing drier and tenser as more hesitant as he actually registered the rest of what she told him. All that excitement, gone right into the trash.

Newt sighed, posture slumping, a hand raking through his messy hair.

“ Can you - uh - can you let me know what year it is? Is this The Twilight Zone, or something? Too vintage? ”

Amai couldn’t stop herself from smiling a little at his reaction, but it didn’t last long. This guy was just as confused as she was. She was quite sure he didn’t belong here, just like her.
