"When were you going to tell me?" Adora says from the doorway.
"Tell you what?" Catra tries, but she can tell Adora's not fooled for a moment.
"I talked to the doctor," Adora says. "He thought I already knew." Her arms are crossed, her lips pressed down tight—and trembling.
Catra's stomach sinks. Adora's taking this much worse than she expected. "I was trying to figure out how to tell you. I know it's going to make things difficult."
"Difficult?" Adora repeats, disbelieving. "Catra, this isn't about things being difficult! I just want you to be okay!" She crosses the room, her eyes wet, and clutches Catra's hands.
"Of course I'm going to be okay!" Catra pulls Adora into a tight hug, trying not to cry. "I mean, it's not gonna be easy—it already isn't—and I know neither of us knows what in the world to do with a baby—you still have so much on your plate as She-Ra and I'm not—"
Catra pulls back and gapes at her. "What do you mean, what baby? Our baby!"
"What did you think I was having, a steak dinner?"
Adora looks bewildered and distressed. "I thought you were sick! I—Catra, I thought you might be dying!"
"Why in the world would you think that?"
"The doctor," Adora stammers, "he said h-he hoped I could help you as much as you deserved, that it was going to, to be hard getting you through this. And I know you've been so sick, you've barely kept anything down—"
"It's called morning sickness, Adora." She may really not know about that, Catra realizes. She herself had only vaguely heard the term. "It's normal. It sucks, but it's normal. When you're having a baby."
Adora stares at her, visibly absorbing information, shifting gears. Finally a tentative smile warms her face. "A baby?" she whispers. "We're really having a baby?"
Catra lets herself smile back, uncertain but hopeful. "Yeah, we really are."
Adora screams, making Catra jump with her tail bushed out, and flings her arms around Catra so tightly she nearly throws up again. "We're having a baby!"
"You're such an idiot," Catra chuckles, relieved and shakily excited, and so, so in love.
"An idiot who's having a baby with my favorite person in the whole world," Adora says, tears glittering on her cheeks, and Catra doesn't realize she's crying too until Adora starts kissing tears away. Catra pulls her in for a proper kiss, long and sweet and magical—and then tears herself out of Adora's arms to run to the bathroom and throw up again.
