So, we thought we’d start familiarizing you all with what most people call weeds, but we call medicine. I’ve been amazed at how much of this information has been lost in such a short amount of time. Only as far back as my grandparents was this a common practice, and to think in only 2 short generations it’s like an endangered species. My dad’s grandparents had a farm in rural Pennsylvania. My mom’s grandparents came to America from Calabria, Italy with her father in tow. I’ve heard stories from both of them about how Gramma picked dandelions from the yard in spring for salads. Or how Bannie and Grandad never went to the doctor because they took care of everything with folk medicine. Now, I am in no way suggesting to never go to the doctor. What I am suggesting is that we all get back in touch with what is given to us for nourishment. It’s time to bring this lost knowledge back. Everything we need is given to us. We just need to remember our relationship with our plant allies. Remember their names. Remember what they look like, and where to find them. We’ll be posting about a new plant friend regularly, and get you reacquainted with them. Just finished up working in our garden today! The Fairies got some new moss for their house, we put in some Yarrow, Basil, Oregano, Thyme, Cayenne Peppers, Bee Balm (Monarda) and Parsley. And that's just what's in these pix. We have flowers in pots lining the stairs going up to the house, under the big tree and around the bench that the Jasmine climbs. We planted Catawba Grapes too!
