As the only female student at Night Raven College, you harbor a certain fondness for Floyd Leech.
You probably think you are keeping it a secret, but anyone with sharp intuition can easily see through it. They know that you, despite wearing the same uniform as the male students, are actually a girl. And they can tell that you have quietly fallen for Floyd Leech.
In fact, Floyd himself has noticed, and he knows.
Unlike the aggressive women who crowd the Mostro Lounge on public opening days, your approach to Floyd is truly subtle. You follow him with a gaze that makes him feel a pleasant itch, and you give him—and only him—a tiny bit of special treatment.
For instance, you might feed him the very last bite of a dessert, something you wouldn't even allow Grim to have, while giving Floyd a sweet smile and saying, "Oh, all right." Or when he begs you to let him use your lap, you blush just a little but still give him a lap pillow, keeping him company until he is completely satisfied.
To Floyd, you are his absolute favorite.
His tiny, adorable Little Shrimpy.
The Little Shrimp who loves him.
Yet, that very Little Shrimp is strangely close to Floyd’s twin, Jade.
In the hallways, the cafeteria, and the botanical garden after school, the two of you are always standing close together, leaning in to whisper secrets and sharing delightful smiles.
At first, Floyd didn't care. He simply thought that Jade found Little Shrimpy interesting too.
But Floyd understands perfectly well why it has gradually started to bother him. He hates the idea of the things permitted only to him being granted to Jade as well.
He just wants Little Shrimp's "special" to belong to him alone.
So, Floyd decided to ask him upfront.
It happened in their room back at the dorm.
"Hey, Jade."
"Yes? What is it?"
Having just returned from the lounge, Jade glanced back at Floyd, who was rolling around on the bed, as he loosened the tie around his neck.
"……Are you and Little Shrimpy close, Jade?"
"—"
Eyes identical to Floyd's blinked in surprise, widening.
Then, the corners of his mouth curled upwards.
His eyes narrowed into a crescent smile.
"Hehe. Hehe, haha. Fufu, ahaha."
"What? You're creeping me out."
"Oh, it's nothing. Hehe. Fufufu."
Jade laughed, covering his mouth with the tips of his neatly aligned fingers. His gestures seemed to say, “Oh dear, my, my.”
Floyd pulled the pillow from beneath his head and hurled it straight at Jade.
With a swift dodge, Jade let the pillow fly past, hitting the closet before dropping onto the floor with a soft thud.
"It is true that the Prefect and I are on good terms."
"……I see."
He hated this.
He absolutely hated this.
You’re the one who likes me, aren’t you?—the thought welled up inside his throat, nearly spilling out.
Looking down at Floyd, whose mood had taken a sharp turn for the worse, Jade still maintained that same amused smile, as if he simply couldn't help but find the situation utterly hilarious.
"But you know, Floyd."
"What?"
"You only have yourself to blame."
"Huh?"
Floyd abruptly sat up, glaring daggers at Jade.
Taking off his jacket and unbuttoning his shirt, Jade picked up Floyd's pillow from the floor.
"You said this to the Prefect, didn't you?"
Floyd caught the pillow tossed back to him, squeezing it tightly over his crossed legs as he waited for Jade to continue.
"'Guess which class I wanna take! Jade'll definitely get it right!'"
"Eh?"
Floyd grimaced as Jade suddenly delivered a flawless impression of him.
Yet, he certainly remembered saying those exact words.
Wanting to tease you and begging for your attention, he used to give you those kinds of quizzes whenever he ran into you in the hallway before class.
He recalled repeating it a few times simply because your face—seriously contemplating the answer with such an earnest expression—was so incredibly adorable.
He loved seeing your face look so disappointed when you guessed wrong, just as much as he loved seeing your face light up with joy when he said you got it right.
"The Prefect wants to understand you better, you see. And so, she became an apprentice to me—the leading expert in 'Floyd Studies.'"
"What even is that…?"
What on earth was Floyd Studies?
Without his knowledge, he had been turned into an academic subject and an object of research.
"You chose lunch special A today, didn't you?"
"Yeah."
"The Prefect predicted that Floyd-senpai would choose lunch special A today. She was so delighted to have gotten it right that she went out of her way to report it to me."
"How utterly charming," Jade said with a heartfelt sigh.
Floyd already knew that, even without Jade pointing it out.
After selecting his meal ticket and receiving the tray for lunch special A, he had been looking around for Jade and Azul, who were supposed to have secured a table ahead of him, when his eyes met yours.
You looked at Floyd, then looked down at what he was holding. For a split second, your eyes widened in surprise, and then you smiled with a joy that bloomed like a flower.
You were undeniably adorable.
But just as Floyd was about to call out to you, you—with the swift agility of an actual little shrimp—turned on your heel and rushed over toward Jade with bouncing steps.
Leaning down beside his twin, who was already seated and heartily devouring a mountain of fried chicken curry, you whispered something in his ear with a delighted look. Jade then rewarded you with a piece of fried chicken, and you headed back to the table where the first-years gathered, happily munching on your prize.
Being forced to watch that entire sequence of events had left Floyd feeling incredibly out of sorts.
"She told me that unless she can understand you at least as well as I do, she doesn't think you will ever truly come to like her."
"Haaah?!"
Floyd had never said anything of the sort.
He didn't want you to become like Jade.
You were fine just the way you were.
There was absolutely no need for you to become a moray eel.
Yet, it was undeniable that the root cause of your behavior lay in Floyd’s own remarks.
"Nnghh…"
Still clutching the pillow, Floyd tumbled over onto his side and groaned.
Jade was laughing, thoroughly enjoying himself.
Dammit.
■□■
He gathered his courage and asked you out on a date.
"Hey, Little Shrimpy. Wanna go hang out with me?"
His eyes might have wandered a little.
His voice might have been a bit pitched up.
Even so, just as you had always allowed him to be special to you, he wanted to convey that you were special to him, too.
Your cheeks turned as glossy and red as an apple, and you nodded with a voice so quiet it felt ticklish. "Yes."
And then, the day before the date.
Tomorrow was the big day, so Floyd rolled around on the bed, trying his best to fall asleep early. Right beside him, Jade was on his device, endlessly messing with it.
"……Hey."
"Oh? You are still awake, Floyd?"
"You've been messing with that device forever, it's so annoying!"
After all, they were moray eels born and raised in the deep sea.
With his nerves already high before his very first date, Floyd couldn't sleep even if he tried while the screen's light kept flickering and flashing right next to him.
"My apologies. However, you will be thanking me tomorrow."
"……"
That way of putting it gave him a bad feeling.
"By any chance, Jade, are you talking to Little Shrimpy?"
There was no reply.
Instead, a beaming smile that screamed he was having the absolute time of his life was the only answer.
"Aaargh, that's it! I hate you, Jade!"
"I love you, Floyd. I am having a wonderful time right now."
"Dammit!"
Floyd flipped the middle finger toward the neighboring bed, pulled the blanket over his head, and retreated into a grumpy sleep.
□■□
The next day.
When you showed up at the meeting spot in the town , you were dressed in an incredibly cute outfit that was perfectly to Floyd's liking.
Your fluffy skirt, something that could never be seen within the school, resembled the colorful caudal fin of a fish from the warm seas. Your lovely, natural makeup—not the standard, polite makeup meant for etiquette at Night Raven College, but a style unique to girls—brought out your charm to the absolute fullest.
There was no way you could have walked from the Ramshackle Dorm to the Mirror Chamber dressed like that. Realizing that his own brother must have played a part in this as well, Floyd looked as if he had just chewed on a bitter bug.
Seeing Floyd grimace the moment his eyes landed on you, your eyebrows drooped with disappointment.
"Little Shrimpy."
"Yes?"
"……Next time, ask me directly. Not Jade."
"Um… is this outfit no good?"
"I love it."
He replied instantly.
Because he loved it, it made him all the more irritated.
Seeing the face of the "producer" lingering right behind his adorable Little Shrimpy.
Ah, seriously.
"……Dammit," he muttered under his breath.

A Fateful Encounter: Part 2
"In which [Name] meets a certain someone before the events of Book 8, written from the second perspective of a Gender Neutral!Reader."
Warning(s): It's been a while since I've written anything, so it might come off as ooc, or badly paced. This is just my way of getting back into the jist of things. Also this will be a multiple part series. Also, also- I made some additional changes to how Yuu sees the world of Twisted Wonderland, because I think those small details aren't explored enough. Reader/Yuu will be addressed as [Name] [Last Name].
For the brief moment of music, I linked one of my personal favourite instrumentals, feel free to recommend your own in the comment!
Pairing: Minajael Tealrajah x Reader
Parts: 1, 2
The week had gone by without too much commotion, besides the busy schedule from Crowley's demands, having to watch your beloved Grim, and additionally discovering that your body can actually survive being sucked into a book, vomited out of a book, sucked back into the second one, and then landing face first into the tables.
You can thank the Adeuce duo for messing around in the restricted section of the library and testing the limits of physics.
Also-
Did you know your clothes were flammable? That little fact also managed to slip away when you failed to dodge the tanuki's blue flames.
But yeah, just the usual ordinary week for a prefect of ramshackle.
However one thing you did notice changing was how your usual gaps in time had gotten worse, to the point where you could be eating lunch one moment before blinking and find yourself seated in your last period the next. Out of sheer luck, your brain conveniently recognised the topics you learned, but the exact details that led to each event completely somehow escaped that befuddled head of yours.
A gentle breeze ran through your locks at the campus gates as you looked towards the stone path leading back to the main street. Grim chose to stay back and feast on his gourmet fish dinner so you opted to take an evening walk with the little alone time he granted his minion.
The reminder of his silly address loosened your frown and traced a momentary smile across your lips as you plugged in earphones for this relaxing stroll. The nostalgic instrumental drifting scrambled thoughts into serenity, all while settling an easy tempo into your steps.
The playlist your friends had helped put together months ago shuffled on. Back then, the Headmaster finally offered you a proper method of communication when he prepared for his trip to god-knows-where. On the other hand, Ace and Deuce were eager to guide you through the basic app functions and recommend a couple of their own favourite hits once Trappola suggested adjusting you to the latest trends.
•••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
Why were you here again?
The sky had gone from a gentle blue to the pinkish hues of a bright sunset orange, said-sun now laying down to rest in the horizon. Gradually disappearing beneath an ocean bed.
Your weight shifted from one foot to the next, a sub-conscious attempt to ground yourself in reality.
Grass.
Blades of it all around, with an array of boats below, tightly packed like sardines on the water surface.
You were back at the docks, on the same elevated cafe where you ran into-
"Admiring the view?" A familiar tone prompted you to look back at its owner, eyes subsequently widening when they landed on a sight for sore eyes.
"Oh- I remember you... Scarf boy from last week, right? I mean, last weekend... To be honest, I'm not so sure anymore." Your mouth worked faster than your logic and out of it came a fragile string of nonsensical sentences but strangely his expression only softened.
"In any case, yes, it's me." He took your bumbling rather well, brushing back his espresso brown curtain bangs before approaching to lean on the small tree beside you.
A comfortable silence settled as you both enjoyed nature's picturesque scenery, city lights turning on in the face of impending darkness.
"...Do you come here often?"
Smooth.
Smooth as hell.
So smooth, an idiot's brain could still have wrinkles in comparison.
NICE job, [Name].
"From time to time, though I'd say this probably cements it as a good spot." His arms were crossed over his chest as he entertained your question, one hand gesturing towards the fading solar rays.
"Can't disagree with you there..." Your foot absent-mindedly traced the outline of a circle as the conversation drifted into another wordless passage.
...
"Well, I'm gonna get going, I need to find my friends before things go out of hand..."
"Already? We were just starting to have fun though?" He joked with sarcasm bleeding through his every words. Here comes the sassy men apocalypse, you thought to yourself, as he continued, "I could escort you back if you'd like?" A polite offer, one you would've admittedly declined if it had been anyone else, but something about him made you feel weirdly normal.
Do people even say that about beautiful strangers?
"I wouldn't mind that, actually... I... I honestly feel exhausted now that I think about it..."
"How come?" He inclined his head to the side as his gaze searched for your own as the two of you began to walk down the gravelly steps.
"No idea... It's only the second time I've been here but it genuinely feels like forever... I've only interacted with you twice, yet I sense that I've seen you before? Besides our first meeting..."
He chuckles. "Well I wouldn't be too shocked if I were you, I am fairly well-known."
"Maybe... I haven't been that up to date with this world since..." You trailed off, feeling as though your thoughts were slowly drifting out of your head again, causing you to sharply exhale whilst you furrowed your brow in concentration.
"Since I..."
"Open your books to page 83, we will be reviewing the sub-topics of last lesson-"
Your eyes snapped open to the sight of Professor Trein carrying his fat fuck of a cat Lucius, where you expected a mix of amber and red, you were met with harsh morning rays of warm white. Static filled your head until you blinked it off, shifting your attention to your bored seatmate, your mind in utter confusion.
"Ace? You're here?"
"Well yeah, but I promise you, I'd rather be anywhere else right now." He was leaning his chin on his palm with a sulking face while Grim exchanged a single glance towards his minion. "What's up with you?" He asked half-heartedly, one eyebrow raising.
"Are you okay, prefect?" Deuce's concerned tone followed.

character(s): kalim al-asim, malleus draconia, vil schoenheit
>og ask<
Kalim Al-Asim
Kalim is usually the epitome of sunshine, but when the truth comes out, his immediate reaction is a mix of intense worry and deep empathy.
The revelation likely happens during a chaotic moment—maybe a sudden tear in a shirt during a gym mishap or an accidental slip of the tongue while Grim is being loud.
His jaw drops, and for a rare moment, Kalim goes completely silent. His eyes dart between the scars on Yuu's back and Yuu's face, trying to process the sheer weight of what that means.
He doesn’t push for the "why." If Yuu says they don't want to talk about it, Kalim respects that instantly. Instead, he floods Yuu with comfort. He’ll offering the softest cushions in the Scarabia storerooms, asking if sitting against certain chairs hurts, and making sure Yuu is safe.
Kalim knows what it’s like to have your freedom and safety compromised (with his history of kidnappings and poisonings). He won't pity Yuu; instead, he treats Yuu like an incredibly resilient survivor.
"You don't have to say a single word about what happened, Yuu. But please let me know if you're ever uncomfortable or in pain. From now on, the Scarabia lounge is your personal comfort zone—no exceptions!"
Malleus Draconia
As a dragon fae, Malleus understands the biological and spiritual significance of flight better than anyone. The discovery hits him with a heavy, somber gravity.
The secret might spill during a quiet, late-night walk in the Ramshackle courtyard when the moonlight catches the distinct scarring peeking from underneath Yuu's shirt.
The air grows noticeably colder, and a faint, protective green aura might flicker around him. His expression softens into something profoundly sorrowful. To a dragon, the loss of wings is a tragedy beyond words.
Malleus treats Yuu with a newfound, gentle reverence. He is incredibly careful not to touch Yuu's back without explicit permission. He feels a deep, quiet anger at whatever circumstances caused this to happen to his favorite human, but he keeps it entirely checked to avoid distressing Yuu.
Malleus will subtly start accommodating Yuu without making it obvious. Need something from a high shelf? It's levitate down before Yuu can even reach. Want to see the view from the top of the castle? Malleus will find a way to bring the magic of the skies down to earth for Yuu.
"To lose your skies... I cannot fathom the strength it takes to walk forward as you do, Child of Man. You need not explain the past to me. Just know that while you reside in this world, my shadow will always be a safe harbor for you."
Vil Schoenheit
Vil is hyper-aware of bodies, posture, and the phantom tells of physical trauma. He probably figured out something was wrong long before the official reveal—perhaps noticing a slight imbalance in Yuu’s gait or the way Yuu tenses when someone approaches from behind. When the secret finally breaks (perhaps during a costume fitting or a rigorous P.E. cleanup), Vil handles it with absolute professionalism and hidden warmth.
Vil doesn’t gasp or make a scene. He simply stops what he’s doing, his sharp eyes taking in the scars. His expression hardens, not out of disgust, but out of a fierce, protective instinct.
Vil immediately shuts down any onlookers or gossips with a terrifying glare. Once they are in private, he addresses it practically. He doesn't pry into the trauma, but he does demand to know how Yuu is taking care of the phantom pain and scar tissue.
Vil’s way of showing affection is through meticulous care. He will personally concoct specialized therapeutic creams to help with skin sensitivity and tension around the shoulder blades. He validates Yuu's beauty and worth, ensuring Yuu knows that a lack of wings doesn't make them any less magnificent.
"A secret like this must have been exhausting to carry alone. Put your shirt back on, Yuu. You don't owe anyone an explanation. Tomorrow, you are coming to Pomefiore; I am crafting a regimen to ensure those scars are properly cared for. You are a prefect of Night Raven College, and you will hold your head high."
You and Idia sleeping together, years in the future. You're fast asleep against him, your breathing soft and steady. Idia is awake, watching you with a mixed tender expression. His blue flaming hair flickering light over your face. He's thinking about his life, and is wondering what he'd ever done to deserve you. To deserve the life you shared. Idia is a man plagued with guilt. Guilt over the mistakes within his life, even when you and Ortho have told him that he couldn't have done anything. Logically he understands this. For at the time, he himself was but a child like Ortho. It doesn't make it easier emotionally though. That phantom that haunts him since he was young. He thinks about his first introduction with you, how he'd taken Grim and the others. How he'd overblotted and caused the near end of the world.
All because he wanted to fix his mistakes. Wanted to fix what was broken.
He'd done a lot of things he wasn't proud of, and by all things you shouldn't have wanted anything to do with him. Yet there you both were, years later. In bed together, with you held into his chest as you slept. Wanting to be nowhere else in the world. Idia had made so many mistakes in his mind, had broken a lot of things. In his view he was a man of sin, unworthy of good things. Yet for some strange reason the Fates gave you to him. You, who became one of the best things in his life. You, who like Persephone, had brought life to the barren garden in his heart. He'd never tell you about these rare night musings of him thinking he didn't deserve you. Of the ghosts of his past haunting him in the late night hours. Nor would he tell you that despite being undeserving of you. He would rather die than give you up. Because Idia Shroud at heart was a selfish man when it came to you. And you yourself were just as selfish as him.
He may not deserve this life, but he'd never give it up for anything. You were worth fighting for, and he'd always fight for you. Selfish heart and all.

There’s fanfiction…. And then there’s FANFICTION. The kind of shit you happen upon at like 3am or some other ungodly time because you were trying to find a fix for ur fixation at the time and you are just SUCKED IN and every sentence feels like a line of cocaine and it has quotes and imagery that permeate your brain and it’s the shit that sticks around in your consciousness forever and it never goes away and it’s always going to be one of Those Fics.
Malleus is incredibly affectionate, but in an old-fashioned, grand way. He isn't used to casual physical touch, so he treats you like a rare, fragile treasure. He loves pressing his forehead against yours or shielding you with his heavy coat.
B = Baking (Do they like baking for you?)
He is fascinated by the process, though his magic tends to accidentally over-bake things. He prefers watching you bake. He will gladly act as your official taste-tester, looking thoroughly charmed by the simple joy of a homemade pastry.
C = Cuddles (How do they cuddle?)
His cuddles are enveloping and warm due to his dragon fae physiology. Malleus likes to wrap his large frame entirely around you, trapping you in a cozy cocoon. He often drapes his long, dark cape over both of you for extra privacy.
D = Dates (What are dates with them like?)
Dates are majestic, magical, and often spontaneous. He will take you on late-night walks through ruined castles, moonlit gargoyle tours, or summon a carpet of glowing fireflies in the botanical gardens just to see you smile.
E = Every day (What is a normal day like with them?)
A normal day involves Malleus popping up out of thin air to join you. Because he is usually isolated, any time spent with you is a holiday to him. He will walk you to class, proudly carrying your textbooks while ignoring the terrified stares of other students.
F = Favorites (What is their favorite thing about you?)
Your utter fearlessness around him. You invited him to hang out when everyone else ran away. He deeply treasures your casual warmth, your bright laughter, and the way you treat him as just "Malleus," not the terrifying Fae Prince.
G = Gentle (Are they gentle? Personalities/Physicality)
He is hyper-aware of his immense, destructive power and your human vulnerability. Malleus handles you with extreme caution. His large hands touch your face as gently as a falling leaf, terrified of accidentally hurting you.
H = Hands (How do they hold hands?)
His hands are large, cool to the touch, and feature sharp, dark nails. He prefers to let you take his hand first. Once you do, he gently clasps your hand, marveling at how perfectly your smaller fingers fit into his.
I = "I love you" (How do they say it?)
He uses grand, poetic language straight out of ancient courtly romances. He will call you his "guiding light," his "precious human," or his "heart's sanctuary." He says it with absolute, unwavering intensity that leaves no room for doubt.
J = Jealousy (Do they get jealous?)
Extremely jealous, though he expresses it like a true king. The air grows heavy, the temperature drops, and green lightning might crackle faintly around his horns. He will smoothly step between you and the offender, asserting his presence instantly.
K = Kisses (What are their kisses like?)
His kisses are reverent and slow. Malleus loves kissing your knuckles, your cheeks, and the crown of your head before moving to your lips. They feel deeply romantic, like a fairytale spell breaking in real-time.
L = Little things (What little things do they do for you?)
He leaves small, magical tokens of appreciation for you to find. You might open your bag to find a perfectly preserved, glowing rose, a beautifully polished gemstone, or a rare gargoyle trinket he found on his nightly walks.
M = Morning (What are mornings like with them?)
Malleus is not a morning creature; he prefers the night. If he stays with you, he will grumble softly and pull you back down into the pillows. He loves watching the early morning sunlight hit your face while tracing your features.
N = Nights (What are nights like with them?)
Nights are when he is most active and relaxed. You two will spend hours stargazing on the roof of Ramshackle Dorm. He knows the history of every constellation and will softly whisper ancient dragon folklore into your ear.
O = Open (How open are they with you?)
He is surprisingly open because he has spent centuries with no one to confide in. Malleus will eagerly tell you about his childhood in the Valley of Thorns, his loneliness, and his deep curiosity about the human world.
P = Patience (How patient are they?)
As an immortal fae, his concept of time is vastly different from yours. He has infinite patience for you. He will happily wait hours just to catch a glimpse of you between classes or listen to you ramble about minor human drama.
Q = Quizzes (Do they help you study?)
He possesses centuries of historical and magical knowledge, making him an overpowered tutor. However, his explanations often dive into ancient history that isn't on your test. He gets easily distracted just watching you concentrate.
R = Remember (What do they remember about you?)
He remembers every single human detail, as your short lifespan makes every moment precious to him. He remembers the exact day you met, your favorite human foods, and even how many sugars you prefer in your tea.
S = Security (How protective are they?)
His protectiveness is unmatched. To threaten you is to invite the wrath of the Valley of Thorns. Lilia and Sebek usually handle physical threats, but Malleus keeps a passive, invisible protective barrier charm on you at all times.
T = Trust (How much do they trust you?)
He trusts you implicitly. You are one of the very few people permitted to touch his horns, which is an incredibly intimate gesture for a dragon fae. He trusts you with his vulnerabilities, his heart, and his future.
U = Unwind (How do you help them relax?)
You help him unwind by introducing him to mundane human things. Playing simple hand-held games, introducing him to a tamagotchi, or just brushing through his long, dark hair helps him shed the heavy weight of his royal crown.
V = Value (How much do you mean to them?)
You are his entire world. To an immortal being who has watched the world change for centuries, you are the singular anchor that makes his long life truly exciting and meaningful.
W = Whole (Do they feel whole with you?)
Yes. Before meeting you, Malleus felt like an isolated statue trapped on a pedestal. With you, he finally feels like he belongs somewhere—not as a terrifying prince or a powerful mage, but simply as himself.
X = Xtra (A random headcanon)
He is completely mystified by modern human technology. If you send him a text message with emojis, he will spend hours analyzing the "hieroglyphics" and ask Lilia for a formal translation of what a sparkly heart means.
Y = Yearning (How do they cope with missing you?)
He does not cope well. Thunderstorms will randomly gather over Night Raven College when he is lonely. He will stand outside your dorm window in the rain, staring up at your lights like a melancholic, modern-day dragon.
Z = ZZzz (Sleeping habits)
Malleus sleeps heavily once he finally drifts off. He loves curling his tail (if prompted by his draconic instincts) or his arms tightly around you, using your warm, human heartbeat as a soothing lullaby to keep away nightmares.
Hello! Glad to see your requests are open(◍•ᴗ•◍)❤
May I ask a sebek x f!reader? This happens after the book 7 party, like where sebek dragged the reader for some alone time after all what happened (They're already dating). A fluff of where the two of them dances/waltz the night away—with nobody else around. Just the two of them( ◜‿◝ )♡
P.S
-I'm really in love with your works hehe. Have a merry day/evening (≧▽≦)
Nocturne For Two
pair: sebek zigvolt x fem!reader
[twst masterlist] 🍨 [masterlist]
a/n 🍨: I might have accidentally made this way longer than I originally planned😭 But I genuinely had so much fun writing it that I just couldn't stop. There were multiple moments where I had to put my phone down because I was giggling and kicking my feet over Sebek being such a sweetheart. I hope you all end up smiling (or blushing) as much as I did while writing it!
If some of Sebek's memories felt familiar, that's because a few of them are callbacks to my older Sebek fics. Since they're already dating in this story, I wanted those little moments—the sandwich, the coat, the "emotional support alarm clock" nickname—to feel like shared memories they've built together over time. You don't need to have read those fics to understand this one, but if you have, hopefully those references make their relationship feel a little more lived-in.
As for the progression of the story, I wanted this to feel like Sebek finally allowing himself to breathe after everything that happened in Book 7. The opening is meant to show how everyone in Diasomnia notices he's been carrying the weight of recent events and quietly encourages him to step away from his duties for just one evening. From there, the picnic becomes a space where he can simply be Sebek instead of "Lord Malleus's retainer," and the final dance is his way of expressing everything he struggles to put into words. Sebek has always been someone whose actions speak louder than his feelings, so I thought ending the night with a waltz beneath the moon felt like the most natural confession he could offer without ever needing a grand speech.
Thank you to the you, lovely requester for trusting me with this prompt, and reading my humble and messy writing. I hope this little moonlit evening gave Sebek the happiness he deserves🩵💛🩷
The upheaval that had swallowed Diasomnia a month prior had, at last, settled into something resembling peace.
The jubilant peace of festivals and the triumphant peace sung by victorious knights, but the quieter sort—the kind that drifted over old castles after storms had exhausted themselves. The halls still bore faint reminders of frantic nights; students spoke softer than before, paperwork accumulated in neat towers upon ebony desks, and the lanterns seemed to burn with gentler flames, as though reluctant to disturb the silence they had earned.
Life, as it always insisted upon doing, continued.
Sebek continued with it.
He stood beside Malleus at every meeting. Organized reports before anyone requested them. Corrected mistakes before they reached his liege's attention. Completed errands with such unwavering precision that one might mistake him for a machine wound too tightly to falter.
Nonetheless something was... absent.
Lilia noticed it first.
There were pauses now.
Tiny invisible pauses between Sebek's words, where his beautiful gaze wandered toward some distant thought before snapping dutifully back into place. His declarations no longer shook the rafters. The dorm had grown so accustomed to his booming voice that the absence of it rang louder than any shout.
Silver noticed next.
During daily training and patrols, Sebek no longer filled the air with lectures about proper knightly conduct or enthusiastic praise of Lord Malleus. Instead, he simply worked. Efficiently and quiet enough that the rustle of leaves beneath their boots often became the loudest sound between them.
It was... unsettling.
Malleus, however, reached a different conclusion.
Had he burdened his retainer too greatly?
The thought lingered long enough that, on a quiet Friday evening, he summoned Sebek to his chambers.
Moonlight spilled through the arched windows in long silver ribbons, painting the polished floor with pale reflections. A fire crackled lazily in the hearth, its warmth unable to quite chase away the cool breath of the autumn night.
Sebek greet without hesitation.
"My lord."
Malleus regarded him for a moment before speaking.
"Sebek... you have seemed rather subdued these past weeks." His voice remained calm, though his eyes searched the young retainer’s face with quiet concern.
"Your enthusiasm has lessened. Even your voice no longer competes with thunder…Is something troubling your mind?"
Sebek's back straightened instinctively. "N-No, my lord! There is nothing of concern. As your retainer, I am merely striving to lessen your burdens after everything that has transpired. I failed to contribute as much as I ought to have, therefore I have sought greater efficiency in my duties."
His words were polished as usual.
"Hm." The soft hum belonged to neither agreement nor disbelief as it belonged to Lilia.
The older fae drifted into the room with effortless grace, balancing a steaming bowl whose contents shimmered with an alarming shade of violet. The fragrance was... ambitious.
Across the room, Malleus visibly stiffened.
"...Lilia."
"My, my." Lilia smiled with the innocence of someone who had absolutely not prepared culinary warfare. "You still make that face every time."
"...Experience has taught me caution."
"It builds character."
"I have sufficient character."
"It can always build more."
Before Malleus could formulate a diplomatic refusal, Lilia had already placed the bowl into his hands.
Sebek watched the exchange with disciplined composure. Only the faint twitch near his brow betrayed that he, too, silently prayed for his lord's survival.
"Now then." Lilia turned back toward him.
"Your answer wasn't particularly convincing." His crimson eyes softened as he looked at Sebek.
"My answer...?" Sebek echoed, a quiet crease touching his brow, as though the words themselves had stumbled upon unfamiliar ground.
"Mhm."
Lilia folded his arms with unhurried ease, the sort of patience only centuries could cultivate. His smile lingered—and knowing.
"Those are the words of a dutiful retainer."
His gaze rested gently upon the young knight.
"But they are not the words of Sebek."
The sentence settled between them like the last leaf surrendering to autumn.
No one spoke.
Only the hearth dared to break the silence, each crackle sending amber sparks sighing upward before they vanished into the chimney's dark throat. Beyond the stained-glass windows, the wind wandered through the ancient trees, coaxing their branches into a low, whispering hymn—as if the forest itself waited for the answer Sebek could not bring himself to give.
Malleus let the spoon hover only a breath from his lips before lowering it once more, untouched. Whether it was caution born from experience or the weight of the conversation before him, even he could not have said.
"Lilia is right."
His voice flowed through the room with the gentle certainty of moonlight spilling across still water—never demanding, never accusing, merely illuminating what had long been there.
"You have stood beside me with unwavering loyalty."
There was no distance in Malleus's gaze now, none of the quiet majesty reserved for a prince addressing his retainer. Instead, it softened with the familiar warmth of centuries-old oaks sheltering a weary traveler, steadfast and unspoken.
"As your liege..." He paused, the words settling with measured care. "...and as your friend, I wish to return even a fraction of the kindness and devotion you have so freely given me."
Silence answered first.
The hearth sighed, folding another log into amber and ash. Shadows stretched languidly along the stone walls while, beyond the tall windows, the wind wandered through the ancient dormitory, stirring the night into a hushed murmur that seemed almost reverent.
"Will you tell us?"
Sebek did not answer.
His fingers drew tighter against the fabric draped over his knees until the leather of his gloves creased faintly beneath the strain. It was such a minute movement that another might have missed it entirely.
"...It is nothing."
The words emerged scarcely above a murmur.
"I merely seek to improve my efficiency. Less noise. More work completed. That is a Lilia's smile did not so much widen as deepen, touched by the quiet certainty of someone who had already pieced together the answer long before the question was asked.
"Is that so?" he murmured, tilting his head ever so slightly. "Then perhaps you could explain why Silver keeps catching you staring at the little locket hidden inside your coat."
Before thought could outrun instinct, Sebek's gloved hand rose to his chest, his fingertips finding the familiar outline concealed beneath layers of dark fabric. The gesture lasted scarcely longer than a heartbeat before he caught himself and withdrew, but the damage had already been done.
There are habits the body betrays before pride can command otherwise, and that fleeting touch spoke more honestly than every careful denial he had offered that evening.
Neither Lilia nor Malleus commented on it. They merely watched, allowing the silence to settle over the room with unexpected kindness, until Lilia finally broke it with a voice gentler than before.
"You've been carrying it everywhere lately. More often than not, your thumb finds it whenever you believe no one's paying attention."
Sebek lowered his gaze. The loud confidence that usually shone so fiercely within his eyes dulled beneath the weight of being understood, for there was little use in denying what his own heart had already confessed on his behalf.
"Everything has finally returned to order." Lilia stepped closer, resting a hand upon the younger fae's shoulder. "The dorm isn't crumbling, Malleus is recovering, and the paperwork can survive a single day without you terrifying it into submission."
"So..." Lilia's smile softened into something unmistakably fond, touched by the quiet affection reserved for children who had long since grown yet never ceased being children in one's eyes. "Why don't you take tomorrow off?"
The refusal came almost before the invitation had finished reaching him.
"N—No, Sir Lilia. I do not believe that would be appropriate."
A faint chuckle escaped the older fae, light as the rustling of leaves beneath an evening breeze. "Is that so? I certainly don't recall raising a young man who would keep a lady waiting for this long."
The words struck with far greater accuracy than any reprimand could have. Color rose swiftly across Sebek's ears, creeping toward his cheeks despite every effort to maintain the rigid composure expected of a knight.
"I—I have seen her," he answered, stumbling over the insistence as though it were a shield hastily raised. "We speak every day. She understands my responsibilities and has never once complained. She knows that Lord Malleus and Diasomnia must come first, and she has always respected that."
"Hm."
Lilia regarded him with the thoughtful hum of someone inspecting a particularly transparent excuse.
"That sounds remarkably like the sort of denial young lovers convince themselves is selflessness."
"...Sir."
There was no indignation in the protest—only quiet embarrassment.
"Sebek."
Lilia stepped forward, resting a weathered hand upon the younger knight's shoulder. The gesture was light, almost fatherly, carrying neither authority nor obligation, only the warmth of someone wishing to remind him that devotion need not always be measured in sacrifice.
"Tomorrow," he said with a smile that left little room for argument, "go and spend the day with her."
The following evening arrived draped in velvet.
True to Lilia's insistence—however impossible it had seemed to refuse—Sebek had sent you a handwritten invitation, asking if you would meet him in Diasomnia's secluded garden after sunset. Weekends left the castle grounds unusually tranquil, and after consulting the weather more times than he cared to admit, he had concluded that the night would be far kinder than the morning. Dawn belonged to bustling students and the chatter of birds; the evening, beneath an open sky and the quiet blessing of moonlight, belonged only to the two of you.
He had prepared everything himself.
Several neatly cut sandwiches rested inside a borrowed tupperware so they would not lose their shape on the journey, accompanied by butter cookies still carrying the faint warmth of the oven and bottles of chilled fruit tea nestled carefully within a wicker basket. Every corner of the cloth had been folded with almost ceremonial precision, as though each careful movement could somehow express what words so often failed to.
Lilia had, of course, offered to help.
The offer had been declined with remarkable speed.
Silver, with the weariness of someone preventing an inevitable catastrophe, had gently redirected Lilia elsewhere, while Malleus—whose recovery remained everyone's greatest concern—became the older fae's newest culinary audience instead. It was, Sebek silently admitted, a sacrifice worthy of admiration.
Left alone with the quiet of the kitchen, his thoughts wandered despite every attempt to discipline them.
He remembered the first sandwich he had ever made for you. You had stared at it with such sincere astonishment before asking which café he had purchased it from, utterly convinced no one capable of shouting battle cries with such conviction could possess hands gentle enough to prepare something so delicate. The bewilderment on your face had lingered with him far longer than the recipe itself.
Then there had been that chilly rainy afternoon before either of you had gathered the courage to call the other beloved. Without thinking, he had draped his coat over your shoulders, only to spend the remainder of the walk insisting that he was merely preventing you from catching a cold—that your health was important to Lord Malleus's peace of mind, and nothing more. Looking back now, he almost wished the earth had swallowed him whole before allowing such transparent excuses to escape his lips.
A quiet laugh slipped from him before he realized it.
His gloved hands paused over the basket.
There was also the nickname.
"My emotional support alarm clock," you had once declared with a sleepy grin after the two of you had crossed paths every morning for at the hallway without fail. Somehow, what had begun as coincidence became routine, and routine became the brightest part of his mornings before he ever understood why.
The memory lingered upon his lips in the shape of an unconscious smile.
"So this is where your thoughts have wandered." Your voice, soft as the evening breeze threading through the ivy, drew him gently back to the present.
Sebek looked up.
There you stood at the entrance to the secluded garden, where moonlight pooled between flowering hedges and silver lilies bowed beneath the weight of dew. You wore a smile that seemed almost unfair in its ability to quiet every restless corner of his heart.
For the briefest moment, he simply stared.
"...Beautiful."
The word escaped before he could stop it.
Heat gathered instantly beneath the tips of his ears, but retreat was no longer possible.
"I mean..." His throat tightened with familiar embarrassment before he surrendered with a small cough. "...Hello."
Closing the distance between you, Sebek slowed, as though afraid that even the gentlest movement might disturb the fragile peace the evening had woven around the two of you. Before reaching for your hand, his fingers paused at the fastening of his glove. With practiced care, he tugged at the leather until it slipped free, revealing the warmth of his bare hand beneath the moonlight.
It was a small gesture—one few would have noticed—but to Sebek, it felt strangely significant, gloves belonged to knights and retainers, while bare hands belonged only to those they trusted.
Only then did his fingers find yours.
His touch was warm, calloused from years of swordsmanship, yet astonishingly careful as his hand folded around yours. Their fingers intertwined with effortless familiarity, fitting together as though countless partings and reunions had quietly taught them the shape of one another. Holding your hand both precious and grounding, Sebek raised it before leaning down, as he pressed a lingering, feather-light kiss against your forehead—a gesture so reverent it bordered on a silent vow.
"Thank you," he murmured, his voice scarcely louder than the rustling leaves overhead. "For spending your evening with me."
His thumb traced a small, absent circle across the back of your hand.
"I... have been looking forward to this."
Your smile softened into something impossibly warmer.
"So have I."
He exhaled a breath he hadn't realized he'd been holding and, with a shy nod toward the neatly arranged blanket waiting beneath the moonlit arbor, offered, "Come. Please... sit with me."
Conversation came as easily as breathing.
Perhaps it was because there was no audience to perform for, no duties demanding Sebek's unwavering attention, nor any expectations beyond simply existing beside one another. Time, usually so rigid beneath the weight of obligations, unraveled gently between shared stories, quiet laughter, and the comfortable rhythm of voices that had long since memorized each other's cadence.
Sebek listened far more than he spoke.
It was a side of him few ever witnessed. The boisterous knight whose declarations could shake castle walls became remarkably quiet in your company, content to watch your expressions shift as you recounted your week, occasionally nodding, occasionally asking a thoughtful question, but most often listening with the sort of attentiveness that made every word feel cherished.
The moon climbed steadily above the garden, its pale light spilling across the blanket in silvery pools.
You glanced upward before a smile tugged at your lips.
"The moon seems brighter tonight. Did someone make sure Malleus didn't... accidentally do anything?"
A cough escaped Sebek before the corner of his mouth twitched upward.
"I believe Lord Malleus is currently occupied ensuring Sir Lilia does not invite himself to our evening."
"So your entire family's conspiring to make sure this date actually happens?"
"You could certainly put it that way, dearest."
"...The tupperware?" Your gaze drifted toward the neatly packed basket before settling on the container resting carefully beside it.
"Lilia insisted I return it afterward. It is, apparently, one of his most treasured possessions." Sebek followed your eyes and gave a small, almost embarrassed nod.
"My, my." You tilted your head, amusement dancing in your eyes. "Borrowing Lilia's precious tupperware? You're going to such lengths for me, sweetheart."
A faint blush crept across Sebek's cheeks, though he cleared his throat as if professionalism alone might banish it.
"It is merely the bare minimum," he replied with practiced dignity. "Your favorite sandwiches and cookies would have suffered considerably during the walk here had I carried them less carefully. Proper storage was simply... the most logical solution."
"Mhm." You leaned just a little closer, your smile softening with unmistakable fondness.
"I like that."
His ears flushed a deeper shade of crimson.
"...You do?"
"I do."
All the discipline Sebek possessed, he had yet to discover any defense against being praised by the person he loved.
The night continued to slip quietly onward, unnoticed by either of you.
The basket gradually emptied between laughter and stories, half-finished conversations wandering into comfortable silences before finding their way back again. Somewhere beyond the hedges, crickets carried the evening upon their tiny wings while the moon climbed higher still, pouring silver over the gardens until every flower seemed dusted with starlight.
Neither of you noticed how close midnight had become.
Sebek gaze drifted toward a pocket watch just as its hands neared twelve. Soon, he would have to escort you back to your dorm before the night surrendered itself to morning.
...Already?
The thought lingered with surprising disappointment.
For a long moment, he simply looked at you.
The moon adored you.
He could think of no other explanation for the way its pale light gathered upon your features so tenderly, softening every curve of your smile until you seemed less like someone standing before him and more like a dream the night itself feared to awaken from.
"...My dear."
His voice came barely above a whisper.
"If..."
He cleared his throat, suddenly discovering that asking this was somehow more frightening than facing an army.
"If you would indulge me..."
Sebek rose to his feet before extending his bare hand toward you, palm open, waiting with the same patience he had always offered whenever the choice belonged to you.
"I haven't practiced in quite some time," he admitted with a sheepish smile that scarcely anyone else was ever privileged to witness. "But... I thought it would be a fitting way to end our evening."
A pause.
"...May I have this dance?"
You looked at his waiting hand before lifting your eyes to meet his.
There, standing beneath the moon, was not Diasomnia's loudest knight, nor Lord Malleus's ever-vigilant retainer.
There was simply Sebek. A young man asking the person he loved to dance.
"I suppose," you murmured, unable to hide the smile tugging at your lips, "but I'll be the judge of that, my sweet."
You stole one last bite of your sandwich.
Sebek laughed—a quiet, startled sound that escaped him before he could stop it.
"My dear..."
Before you could answer, his thumb brushed gently across the corner of your mouth, sweeping away the tiny breadcrumb that had stubbornly remained upon your lips. The touch was featherlight, lingering for only a heartbeat before he withdrew, his ears already blooming crimson as though he'd only just realized what he'd done.
"There."
His eyes darted away for the briefest moment.
"...Much better."
You slipped your hand into his.
His fingers closed instinctively around yours.
Slowly, he stepped closer with his other hand settling with almost reverent care against your waist, afraid that holding you too tightly might shatter the miracle of having you there at all. Your free hand found his shoulder, and for one suspended moment neither of you moved.
The world seemed content to wait.
Then Sebek began to hum.
It was a melody you recognized immediately, one he had absentmindedly hummed during walks across campus or while waiting outside your classes—a simple waltz carried not by perfection but by familiarity.
"I want to lead." You spoke as you starting the foot position to lead the dance.
His expression betrayed the faintest hint of panic before melting into helpless affection.
"...As you wish."
The two of you drifted across the garden.
Paired with flawless elegance with a mix of the easy grace from two people who had long since learned to trust one another more than their own feet. Every gentle turn drew another laugh from you, bright enough to rival the stars overhead, and every time your eyes met his, Sebek forgot the next step entirely.
Your laughter blossomed once more beneath the sleeping garden, bright enough that it seemed to coax the flowers into swaying along with the waltz. It unraveled every careful thought Sebek had tried so desperately to keep in order, until the measured rhythm of the dance dissolved beneath the far louder cadence of his own heart.
He had meant to count each step, to follow your guide with the composure expected of a knight, yet every graceful turn stole another fragment of that resolve. The moon caught upon your smile, silver threading through your hair as you laughed again, and Sebek realized—with no small amount of despair—that he had forgotten where his feet were supposed to go.
"My apologies..."
"You've stepped on me again, dear."
"I... have?"
"You have."
The laugh that escaped you was so warm, so utterly unrestrained, that it robbed him of every defense he possessed.
"I fear," he murmured, the corners of his lips lifting despite his embarrassment, "that my greatest adversary this evening is not the dance..."
His voice trailed away. It was you.
Or rather, the impossible way you looked at him.
The music existed only as a quiet hum upon his lips now. The garden, the moon, the castle beyond the hedges—everything receded into a distant blur until there was only your hand resting in his. Your breath mingling with his own, and the gentle rise and fall of your steps as though the two of you had become part of the same heartbeat.
Almost without thinking, Sebek slowed.
His bare hand remained firm intertwined around yours, but the gloved hand at your waist drifted upward with hesitant reverence, pausing for the briefest instant silently asking permission before his fingertips brushed against your cheek. His thumb traced the soft curve beneath your eye with impossible tenderness, tucking a stray strand of hair behind your ear before lingering there, warm against your skin.
You leaned ever so slightly into the touch with a smiled, the triumphant smile that followed one of your victories over his stubbornness.
This one was softer and quieter.
It bloomed upon your face with such effortless affection that your eyes curved into crescents, another laugh escaping you like the first note of a song only the night was privileged enough to hear.
Sebek simply... stared.
The world had surely made a mistake.
How could anyone be permitted to look so breathtaking?
His lips parted, but every eloquent sentence he had rehearsed during lonely evenings abandoned him without mercy. The knight who could proclaim his loyalty before an entire assembly now found himself incapable of uttering anything more sophisticated than the truth laid bare before him.
"...You're..."
"Hmm?"
His voice caught.
"...so breathtaking."
The confession escaped in scarcely more than a breath.
"I..." A helpless laugh left him, equal parts wonder and surrender. "Forgive me, my dear... I cannot seem to stop looking at you."
His cheeks had long surrendered to crimson, yet he made no effort to hide it.
"When you smile..." His thumb caressed your cheek once more, almost absentmindedly reassuring himself that this moment truly existed. "...everything else disappears."
At some point, the dance simply ceased, though neither of you could have said who had stopped first. Perhaps it had been you. Perhaps it had been him. Or perhaps the waltz had merely surrendered, finding itself hopelessly outmatched by the quiet gravity that drew the two of you together.
Sebek remained where he was, his hand still cupping your cheek as though it had forgotten any other purpose. His thumb wandered in slow, absent circles against your skin, savoring the warmth beneath his fingertips with the careful reverence of someone committing a miracle to memory.
You answered him with nothing more than another laugh and that unbearably gentle smile—a smile so luminous that the moonlight itself seemed pale beside it—and he could only gaze back in helpless silence, wondering how something so simple could leave his heart so utterly defenseless.
He had devoted his life to becoming a knight worthy of Malleus. He had spent years perfecting his swordsmanship until every strike became instinct, every lesson etched into muscle and bone, every oath carried with unwavering conviction. Now standing before you, with your fingers still laced between his and your face resting so trustingly in his palm, all those triumphs seemed to drift quietly into the distance, like stars fading before the coming dawn.
For no accolade, no honor bestowed upon him had ever compared to this single, fragile moment—the indescribable privilege of being close enough to watch you smile because of him, to hear your laughter carried upon the night air, and to realize with a tenderness so profound it almost frightened him that if happiness possessed a face, it had always looked exactly like yours.

Lilia is completely shameless and chaotic with his affection. He loves public displays of affection just to see you blush or to shock the other students. Expect sudden back-hugs, hand-holding, and dramatic cheek kisses at any given moment.
B = Baking (Do they like baking for you?)
He absolutely loves baking for you, which is a major health hazard. His cooking is notoriously monstrous, featuring dark purple smoke and bizarre ingredients like dried bat wings. He is always entirely thrilled to present you with a terrifying, cursed pastry.
C = Cuddles (How do they cuddle?)
His cuddles are surprisingly cozy but full of sudden movement. He loves hanging upside down from the ceiling or bed frame to drape himself over you. He is much smaller than Malleus or Silver, but he holds onto you like a very needy, warm bat.
D = Dates (What are dates with them like?)
Dates are a wild mix of centuries-old history and chaotic modern trends. One day he will take you to a loud rock concert or an arcade, and the next he will guide you through an ancient, hidden valley to watch a century-blooming flower open.
E = Every day (What is a normal day like with them?)
A normal day is completely unpredictable. He will jump-scare you by popping up from behind a couch or dropping down from a doorway just to say good morning. He will constantly text you internet memes and gamer slang that he doesn't fully understand.
F = Favorites (What is their favorite thing about you?)
Your willingness to embrace his playful, eccentric nature. He has lived for centuries and seen empires fall, but your bright, youthful energy and genuine acceptance make him feel incredibly alive and joyful.
G = Gentle (Are they gentle? Personalities/Physicality)
Behind his childish pranks lies the mind of a seasoned, ancient general. He is hyper-aware of his own immense magical strength. When he holds your face or touches your hair, his movements are incredibly soft, deliberate, and gentle.
H = Hands (How do they hold hands?)
His hands are relatively small, cool, and surprisingly smooth despite his centuries of fighting wars. He loves swinging your joined hands back and forth dramatically while you two walk across the Night Raven College campus.
I = "I love you" (How do they say it?)
He says it casually and often, whispering it in your ear after a prank or texting it with dozens of skull emojis. However, during quiet nights, he will look at you with deep, ancient eyes and tell you that you are his favorite era.
J = Jealousy (Do they get jealous?)
He rarely gets genuinely jealous because he is entirely secure in his abilities. If someone bothers you, he won't yell; he will simply flash a terrifying, predatory fae smile that causes the temperature to drop, making the offender flee in pure terror.
K = Kisses (What are their kisses like?)
His kisses are playful, quick, and numerous. He loves peppering your entire face with light, feather-soft kisses until you giggle. When he wants to be serious, his kisses become deep, lingering, and full of a centuries-old devotion.
L = Little things (What little things do they do for you?)
He secretly uses his high-level magic to solve minor inconveniences for you. If you lose your keys, they will mysteriously reappear in your pocket. If you are struggling with a difficult spell, he will subtly nudge your magic in the right direction.
M = Morning (What are mornings like with them?)
Lilia is a night owl who hates early mornings, but he will happily wake up early just to torment you playfully. He will hover directly over your face while you sleep, waiting for you to open your eyes so he can yell a cheerful "Good morning!"
N = Nights (What are nights like with them?)
Nights are his prime time. You two will stay up until 3:00 AM playing online co-op video games, screaming into your headsets, and eating terrible snacks. He is a merciless gamer who refuses to let you win easily.
O = Open (How open are they with you?)
He hides his deep scars and dark past behind a mask of cheerful mischief. However, with you, he will slowly drop the playful act. He will share bittersweet memories of old friends he has lost to time and his deep love for his adopted sons.
P = Patience (How patient are they?)
He has the limitless patience of an immortal being. He has watched human civilizations rise and fall, so your small mistakes, bad moods, or clumsy moments do not bother him at all. He will simply chuckle and help you clean up.
Q = Quizzes (Do they help you study?)
He is a terrible traditional tutor because he lived through the history you are studying. He will constantly correct the textbooks, claiming the authors got the facts completely wrong because "he was actually there" when the events happened.
R = Remember (What do they remember about you?)
He memorizes your favorite things instantly. Because human life is so short compared to fae lifespans, he treats every single detail of your personality, your likes, and your habits as a precious treasure to be locked away in his memory.
S = Security (How protective are they?)
He is an legendary former soldier, so his protective instincts are top-tier. He usually lets you fight your own battles to help you grow, but the absolute second you are in real danger, his playful facade vanishes into a terrifying aura.
T = Trust (How much do they trust you?)
He trusts you completely. The ultimate sign of his trust is letting you see his vulnerable, domestic side—the tired father who worries about Silver and Malleus, rather than the energetic teenager or the scary general.
U = Unwind (How do you help them relax?)
You help him unwind by letting him drop his energetic "pop-music grandpa" persona. Sitting quietly on the couch together, listening to old classical music, and simply holding his hand allows him to rest his ancient mind.
V = Value (How much do you mean to them?)
You are his beautiful, precious present. In a long life full of heavy memories, ghosts of the past, and duties to the crown, your love is the bright, exciting light that keeps him anchored to the modern world.
W = Whole (Do they feel whole with you?)
Yes. With you, he doesn't have to choose between being a fearsome warrior, a doting father, or a playful student. He can combine all his chaotic pieces together and just be Lilia, knowing you love every part of him.
X = Xtra (A random headcanon)
He loves customizing matching gaming profiles, phone cases, and clothing items for the two of you. He will proudly wear a bright, ridiculous shirt featuring an inside joke between you two, completely ignoring Sebek's loud confusion.
Y = Yearning (How do they cope with missing you?)
He handles it by spamming your phone with an endless stream of cursed selfies, weird cooking videos, and text messages. If he misses you too much, he will simply teleport directly into your room, bypassing all dormitory security.
Z = ZZzz (Sleeping habits)
He sleeps like a literal bat, often hanging upside down or curling into a tiny ball under a mountain of blankets. He likes to wrap his legs around yours or rest his head completely on your chest, snoring softly like a tiny kitten.
So I was gonna draw this, but I already have other projects on my plate so....drabble and short scene it is.
You guys know that trend where dads shave off their beards and their children don’t recognize them?
What if that’s how it was with Silver and Lilia when Lilia cut off and died his hair, I know he looks almost the same but, a hair cut can change how someone looks real quick.
----------------------
Silver is standing in the bathroom of the small cottage, looking at his hair. thinking on how Silver has been grabbing at it a lot lately, and tugging on it.
Lilia then waves his hands, bringing the scissors to him, "Well here's a simple solution." Lilia began to cut off his hair, "Hmm." He said, already liking how it was looking. He had let his cut off hair fall to the ground as he cut away.
"And done." Lilia said, proud of himself with his new look, "This is such a cute look!" Lilia gawked at his reflection. Lilia looked down, and his smile dropped, seeing the black hair mixed in with the red laid upon at his feet.
he felt his breath get caught in his throat, he made himself look at the mirror again, his eyes lading onto the red streaks in his hair. "Hehe it's no problem, a simple fix." Lilia said, having his hand changing the color of the red parts to a different color. "Hmmm...no not this." He said before changing it again. "Hmmm."
Lilia continued to process, before landing on pink. He paused before smiling wide. "Ah perfect, this is super cute!" Lilia said, his damp mood completely gone. "Ah I must show Silver, I'm sure he'll agree." Lilia couldn't wait to see his 3 year old reaction.
Lilia left to the living room, where he had left Silver with a few books to keep him distracted. "Silver~" Lilia called out, getting the sleepy boy's attention. He looked over to where the voice was coming from before pausing. "What do you think?" Lilia asked, playing with his hair.
Silver didn't say anything, but his eyes became teary. Silver then let out a small whimper cry, Lilia smile disappeared, replaced with a comer look. "What's the matter?" Lilia took a step to him, but that caused Silver to stand up and get far away from him. "Papa?" Silver called, looking around, searching for his father, who happened to be right in front of him.
"Silver it's me." Lilia said, trying to sooth the crying boy. Silver didn't say anything, but didn't take his eyes off the man in front of him.
As if by some miracle, the front door received a knock. Lilia called out, "Come in Malleus." The fae prince entered the small house, "Greetings Lilia, Silver.....why is Silver crying?" Mallues asked looking at Silver, before Lilia could answer, Silver did a stumble run to Mallues.
Silver hid behind Mallues leg, clutching his pant leg, silently begging for help. Mallues looked at Lilia before noticing the change in his appearance. "Oh..." Mallues eyes widened, seeing the new hair style. "What a charming look you have acquired Lilia."
Lilia smiled, "Thank you Malleus, I wanted a new look. But it seems it came at a cost, my own child doesn't seem to recognize me." Lilia said, trying to peek at Silver behind Mallues leg. Mallues thought for a moment, before looking over at Silver. "Silver, fear not, this is your father." Silver looked up at Mallues, looking confused by his words.
"Silver." Lilia called again, kneeling down to be at Silver level. Silver peeked at him again, he looked at Lilia, really taking in a look at his face. "Papa..." Silver muttered out quietly. Silver slowly walked to Lilia, as he started to recognize him. "It's me Silver, your papa." Silver eyes then brighten, fully realizing who it was. "Papa!" Silver said, running to Lilia hugging him as if he had left for a week. "Haha I'm here." Mallues smiled watching the two.
After that incident Lilia made Silver come with him if he did anything different with his hair, no matter how much Silver assured him that he would recognize him.

Summary: Sylus begins to act strange and you think he may have caught some sort of illness. He's strangely warm, irritable and eating more. However this "illness" turns out to be more intense than you could have ever imagined... (˵ •̀ ᴗ - ˵ )
"You're wrong," he murmurs, voice husky and edged with something raw. "You’re fertile. I can smell it on you."
You freeze.
His lips ghost just beneath your ear as he continues, tone smooth and reverent. "Your scent is different now—sweet, ripe, like fruit at the peak of bloom. The warmth of your skin, the rhythm of your pulse...your body sings to mine in ways you cannot hear. But I do."
His hand tightens at your waist, possessive, anchoring you to him like you might drift away otherwise. The heat in his eyes is no longer just desire—it is intention, it is instinct honed over centuries, it is him answering a call your body didn’t even know it had made.
"You're ready. Now," he growls, the final word laced with a quiet sort of reverence, as if he were speaking a truth ordained by something far older than either of you.
AN: Okay so, this fic was SO fun to write I may have gotten a little carried away hehe. This was a little bit out of my comfort zone but I am so happy with it!! Plus it was about time I did a oneshot for dragon!sylus. After what he went through he deserves as many babies as he wants ;(
Enjoy!!
Sylus had been unusually irritable lately, and it wasn’t just in the way he grunted or snapped when spoken to—it was in everything. His eyes seemed sharper, flicking around like he was constantly on edge, and his tail, which normally lay relaxed behind him, had developed a twitchy, agitated flick. He wasn’t acting like the level-headed fiend you’d come to know and love.
Even he seemed aware of the shift; there were moments he paused mid-sentence or mid-motion, as if catching himself acting out of character. When he returned to the cave after hunting, he couldn’t seem to keep still. He paced the stone floor in restless circles, ran his claws along the wall, muttered to himself under his breath. His whole body seemed to vibrate with pent-up energy, with something unspoken roiling beneath the surface.
His appetite had doubled, maybe even tripled. He devoured whatever meat, vegetables, or fruit he managed to scavenge or hunt for the both of you, sometimes not even bothering to sit down before tearing into it. He would eat so quickly it was like he hadn’t tasted food in days, and when he was done, he still looked unsatisfied. It was primal, instinctive, like something inside him was demanding more than he could give it.
And then there was the heat.
He’d started to feel noticeably warm to the touch, which was strange for a reptile. The first time you noticed it was when he brushed past you, and you flinched, startled by the heat radiating off his skin. Since then, it had only intensified. Whenever he hugged you, lingered too close, or let his fingers graze your arm, you felt it—his body running hot, almost feverish. It was unnerving. And his touches had changed too. They weren’t violent, but they carried a kind of hunger, an urgency that hadn’t been there before. He gripped a little tighter, held on a little longer. Like proximity alone wasn’t enough to settle whatever storm was brewing inside him.
It worried you terribly. Was he getting sick? Could dragons even get sick? The question gnawed at your thoughts, carving out little pits of anxiety in your chest no matter how often you tried to push it away. The heat that seemed to bleed from his skin, the sharp glint in his eyes that hadn’t been there before, the unpredictable mood swings and restlessness...it all felt off. Like something inside him had shifted, and you didn’t know if it was something natural or something dangerous. You'd never seen him like this. He wasn’t just irritable, he was volatile. Every movement held tension, like he was wound too tightly and one wrong word might snap him in two.
You knew better than to voice your concerns aloud. Suggesting he try any kind of human treatment would go over about as well as trying to leash a wildfire. He’d scoff, roll his eyes, and brush you off with a dismissive sigh. Sylus was proud, fiercely so. Stubborn as a stone wall, and not exactly someone who tolerated being fussed over. An illness? He'd laugh at the implication.
Still, you couldn’t just sit back and watch him burn from the inside out.
So the next time he finally dozed off—after hours of pacing, mumbling under his breath, and tossing scraps into the fire like they’d wronged him personally—you waited until his breathing evened out and his face slackened. He lay sprawled out on the nest of furs you’d both piled near the hearth, the orange firelight casting shadows across his angular features. One arm was thrown loosely over his chest, the other curled slightly beside him. His chest rose and fell in a rhythm that looked almost peaceful. Almost.
You moved with painstaking care, the cool, damp cloth in your hand trembling slightly from how tightly you gripped it. Your feet barely made a sound against the stone floor as you approached, every step deliberate. When you reached his side, you crouched slowly, heart hammering so loudly you were sure it might wake him before you even got the chance to touch him. You leaned in, gently pressing the rag to his brow, hoping the cold would cut through the heat pouring off of him like he was lit from within.
For a brief moment, you felt relief. He didn’t stir. Maybe, just maybe, he would sleep through this.
But then something shifted.
Without warning, a firm pressure clamped around your wrist. You gasped, flinching, and the rag slipped from your fingers. Your gaze dropped, heart stalling in your chest, as you realized his tail had slithered around your arm in one smooth, silent motion. Like it had a mind of its own.
His eyes snapped open a second later, glowing faintly in the dim light, red pupils slitted and sharp. He looked at you without blinking, like he’d known what you were sneaking up on him the entire time.
"And what exactly do you think you're doing?" he murmured, voice husky with sleep and something else—something darker. There was a flicker of amusement there, curling at the corners of his lips, but beneath it was something far more intense. Possessive. Primal. Like he wasn’t just waking up, but awakening to something deeper.
You swallowed hard, mouth suddenly dry. Your heart thundered against your ribs like it wanted to escape.
You opened your mouth to answer, but the words caught in your throat, stuck somewhere between nervousness, concern and something you couldn’t name.
"I'm helping you, silly. You're sick," you mumble, voice soft but threaded with a note of stubborn concern. Your lips purse, irritation flickering across your features as you glance down at the thick coil of his tail still looped possessively around your wrist. "Now let go of me," you add, trying to sound firm despite the tremor in your voice.
To your surprise, he does. The tension releases almost instantly, the pressure around your wrist vanishing as his tail retreats. You exhale a breath you hadn’t realized you were holding, rubbing at your skin where the warmth lingered.
"I am not unwell," he says after a pause, voice rich and steady, threaded with an unmistakable certainty. "Only mortals burn with fever."
You frown, eyebrows drawing together in quiet frustration. "Yeah, but... you've been acting really strange lately," you reply, your voice lowering, touched now with genuine worry. "You’re restless, snappy, and you never eat this much. I just...I want to make sure you’re okay. That you’re not hurting."
The confession slips out before you can think better of it. You stare at him for a moment longer, searching his unreadable expression for some crack, some tell that might confirm or deny what your instincts have been screaming.
And then you move, slow and tentative, inching closer to him as if drawn by an invisible force. When you rest your head lightly against his chest, you feel the heat radiating off him in waves, hotter now than it had been earlier. His body is solid beneath you, unmoving, as if he’s forgotten how to breathe. The sound of his heartbeat thuds against your ear, rapid and deep, like a distant drum.
You think, for a moment, that he might relax.
But he doesn’t.
Instead, his entire frame stiffens. There’s a flash of tension through his shoulders, and then his tail moves again—but not with the idle instinct of before. It wraps around your waist in a slow, deliberate spiral, the grip firm but not cruel. He lifts you effortlessly, his strength startling in its subtlety, and then plants you down several feet away from him.
You blink, stunned, arms still half outstretched in the air where you had been.
The new distance between you is not just physical. It feels like a chasm, sudden and inexplicable, heavy with all the things he won’t say. You sit in silence for a heartbeat too long, the echo of his rejection ringing in your chest like a hollow bell.
He avoids your gaze, eyes cast to the fire, jaw clenched tightly.
"Hey! You can't ju—" you begin, voice raised in disbelief, frustration bubbling over—but the look he gives you stops you dead in your tracks. It's not angry or loud, but it carries a quiet authority that slices through the air like a blade. His eyes flash with a warning, cold and unreadable.
"Silence, love. Sleep on the other side of the cave tonight," he says, each word deliberate, clipped. There is no room for negotiation in his tone. It’s final. Commanding. His eyes close again, as if your protest doesn’t deserve his attention. Like the matter is already settled in his mind.
The dismissal stings more than you expect.
It hits like a slap, raw and disorienting. You reel back a step, mouth parting slightly as you try to process the flood of emotion that crashes down on you all at once. Hurt. Confusion. Anger. They churn in your chest, thick and suffocating. What the hell? All you had done was try to help. You had stayed up, watched over him, worried yourself sick, and this was how he repaid you? By pushing you away like a child being told to go to their room?
Ugh. Stubborn. Always so impossibly, frustratingly stubborn.
Your jaw tightens as the ache behind your eyes starts to burn. He didn’t get to do this. Not after everything. If he thought you were just going to walk away, tuck yourself into the far corner of the cave like a scolded pet and let him suffer in silence, he clearly didn’t know you as well as he should.
Because humans don’t give up on the ones they love.
"Sylus!" you bark, louder this time, anger sharpening your voice. You stomp across the stone floor toward him, every step punctuated by the slap of your feet and the pounding of your heart. "You know I’m not doing that! I’m not going to just curl up in the corner like you didn’t just say that to me!"
He says nothing, but you can see his jaw twitch. That slow, deliberate breath leaves his nostrils again—heavy, controlled. Tired. Still, he doesn’t open his eyes. Doesn’t look at you. It’s like he's deliberately trying to sever whatever invisible thread connects the two of you.
You press your palms into your thighs, trying to ground yourself, fighting the overwhelming desire to scream. "What is wrong with you? Just talk to me! Look at me! Say anything!"
But all you receive is silence. Stubborn, infuriating silence.
Your fists tighten at your sides. The cold cavern air suddenly feels stifling.
Fine. You could be stubborn too.
Without thinking, you finish crossing the cave, heart pounding loud enough to drown out your better judgment. Every step echoes with stubborn purpose as you close the gap he created between you. You don't hesitate. You don’t ask. You simply act—climbing over him, swinging a leg across his large body, and settling yourself squarely atop his waist. The furs beneath you shift and rustle, but he doesn’t stop you. His brow furrows slightly, the only sign he even notices, but otherwise, he remains infuriatingly still.
Still silent. Still distant.
You lean down slowly, hands braced on either side of his torso, and fix your gaze on his face, searching for some flicker of emotion—anything to tell you he’s still there beneath the silence. The heat rolling off of him is overwhelming up close, like standing too near a smoldering hearth. It curls around you, prickling your skin, quickening your breath. The air feels thick, heavy with unspoken things.
"Sylus..." you murmur, your voice low, raw with feeling.
No response.
"Sylus! I know you can hear me!" you bark, sharper now, frustration rising with each second he continues to ignore you. Your heart twists painfully.
Still nothing.
You sigh, the sound long and defeated, your chest aching with the weight of his silence. Carefully, gently, you lower your forehead to his, hoping maybe the closeness will shake something loose. His skin burns beneath yours, unnaturally warm.
"I just want to know what’s wrong with you," you whisper, voice so quiet it nearly disappears in the cavern's stillness. "Guess your species are terrible communicators."
Still, he doesn’t flinch. Doesn’t open his eyes. But you feel it—something in him coiling tight, like a rope being pulled taut. He may be still, but he’s not unaffected. Something inside him is shifting, stirred by your proximity, your touch.
Acting on instinct and desperation, you close the small distance between your mouths and press a kiss to his lips. It’s meant to be fleeting, a soft reassurance. But it lingers. Longer than it should. Your lips stay, pressed gently to his, drawn in by the heat, the subtle shape of his mouth, the restraint that pulses beneath his immobility. Your eyes slip closed as your hands move—one cupping the side of his jaw, the other resting on his chest, feeling the erratic beat of his heart.
Then you feel it. A breath. Deeper. Shakier. His chest rises and falls faster.
And in a blink, the world flips.
One moment you’re above him, tethered by warmth and hope—the next, you’re on your back, the furs catching your fall as a gasp escapes you. "Ah!" The air leaves your lungs in a rush. Your eyes fly open to find him hovering above you, strong arms braced on either side of your head. His large body cages yours in completely, heat surrounding you like a second skin.
His eyes are open now. And they are glowing.
There is something feral in his expression—not cruel, but ancient and wild and hungry. His gaze drags across your face with a depth that makes your breath hitch. Every inch of him is tense, restrained, as if holding back something that wants very badly to be unleashed.
He still hasn’t spoken.
But he is no longer ignoring you.
"You're making it very difficult to control myself, love," he growls, his voice like gravel softened by heat, thick with restraint and something darker coiled beneath it. The words roll over your skin just moments before his lips do. His breath fans against your neck—a warning, a promise—before he dips his head, and you feel the sharp, precise puncture of his teeth sinking into your skin.
This isn’t a playful nip. This isn’t a teasing show of dominance. His bite breaks the surface, deliberate and deep. You feel the sharp pain bloom instantly, a white-hot flash that steals the breath from your lungs. A gasp escapes you—startled, raw—and your hands fly up to clutch at his shoulders. Your fingers dig into him as your back arches against the sensation. Warm blood trickles down your shoulder, and your skin tingles where it flows.
You weren’t unfamiliar with Sylus's biting. He'd always had a possessive streak that came through when things turned intimate or emotional. But this—this felt different. It felt desperate. Like he was trying to root himself in you. Like something inside him was slipping, and you were the only thing keeping him from losing his grip.
His mouth lingers at your neck, his lips now parted just slightly. You feel the tremor in his breath before his tongue slips out and glides across the bite. Slow. Deliberate. He licks away the blood he’d drawn, and the pain dulls under the hot, wet press of his mouth. In its place comes a deep, spiraling heat that blooms low in your belly, tightening your grip on him.
"S-Sylus..." you breathe, barely able to form the words. Your voice trembles. "If you were just...er, in need—you know I would've helped you ages ago."
Still, he doesn’t answer.
You feel the way his body stiffens slightly against you. His hand slides up along your side, slow and controlled, as though he’s still deciding what to do with the storm inside him. Then, he leans in again and presses his lips gently to your neck, just beside the wound. This time, the touch is less claiming and more conflicted—like he's trying to soothe something in himself rather than stake another claim.
He stays there for a long moment, breathing in the scent of your skin, your blood, your closeness. You feel the tremble in his chest where it presses against yours, the tension in his jaw, the way his fingers twitch as though resisting the urge to hold you tighter. The cavern feels impossibly still around you, as if the very walls are holding their breath.
At last, he lifts his head. His eyes meet yours, and for the first time tonight, he looks completely unguarded. They glow faintly, with a trace of something wild, but it’s the emotion in them that catches your breath—raw, aching, afraid.
"It's more than that," he says, his voice rough and frayed at the edges. Not defensive. Not ashamed. Just...honest. Like every word costs him more than he knows how to show.
You stare at him, heart hammering, throat tightening.
Oh no. It's bad news, isn't it?
The thought slams into you with the force of a crashing wave, stealing the air from your lungs. You blink rapidly, trying to keep your vision clear, but the sting in your eyes wins. Tears begin to well, hot and fast, blurring the edges of your world as your chest tightens with dread. Something in his voice, in the way he looked at you—it had to mean something terrible. Something irreversible.
"What is it? Please tell me you're okay!" you blurt out, your voice cracking and shaking as panic rises up your throat. Your hands cling tighter to him, desperate and trembling, fingers curling into the fabric of whatever covers his back. As if somehow, your grip could keep him from slipping away. As if love alone could hold back whatever awful truth he was about to reveal.
Sylus blinks, visibly startled by your sudden burst of emotion. The intensity in your voice clearly catches him off guard. His eyes, once glowing with wild tension, soften slightly. His expression shifts—no longer hard and guarded, but touched with a flicker of something else. Something gentler.
Wordlessly, he draws you closer. His arms wrap around you more securely, with purpose now. Not to restrain, but to reassure. His hands press to your back, his warmth enveloping you like a cocoon. His voice, when he finally speaks, is low and deliberate. A slow drag of velvet.
"No need to fret," he murmurs. "All is well."
You pull back just enough to look up at him, eyes wide, your breath caught halfway in your lungs. Your heart pounds in your ears. There’s a moment of suspended silence where you brace yourself for the real answer.
"It's just mating season."
You freeze. Your body goes still, and your mind... blanks.
Of all the explanations you had been preparing for—a curse, an ancient affliction, some kind of irreversible breakdown of his control—that had not even crossed your mind.
Mating season?
You blink once. Twice. And then the realization crashes over you, dragging with it a rush of relief and a sudden, absurd clarity. The heat, the irritability, the pacing, the biting, the overwhelming hunger—both physical and something deeper. It all made sense now. It fit together like puzzle pieces you hadn’t realized you were holding.
You let out a breathless huff, lips parting as the tension begins to unravel inside you.
And then you laugh.
A full, startled, ridiculous laugh bubbles up from your chest and bursts free before you can stop it. It catches you completely off guard, but you can’t hold it in. The absurdity of it all—the sheer contrast between what you imagined and what it actually was—breaks something loose in you.
You double over slightly, pressing your forehead into his collarbone as your shoulders shake with the sound. It’s laughter born of relief, disbelief, and the strange, heady rush of realizing everything isn’t falling apart.
Sylus stares down at you in silence, his eyes narrowing slightly. Clearly, he doesn’t find your reaction particularly amusing. If anything, his expression deepens into a look of resigned irritation, as if this wasn’t quite the response he expected.
But still, he doesn’t pull away. His arms stay around you, anchoring you to him, the heat of his body steady and real. His tail curls lightly around your leg, a quiet, instinctive motion. Protective. Possessive.
And despite the glare he levels at the top of your head, there’s no real venom behind it. He lets you laugh, lets you melt the fear from your chest with every shaky breath, until your voice begins to soften again.
Eventually, you lift your head, wiping at your eyes with the back of your hand.
"Is something humorous?" he asks, his voice low, edged with a faint note of offense, though there is no true malice behind it. His eyes narrow slightly as they study your face, as though trying to decipher the cause of your sudden laughter. But even in his quiet suspicion, his arms never loosen their hold around you. If anything, he draws you closer.
You shake your head quickly, the laughter dying in your throat as a rush of guilt creeps in. "Honestly, you had me scared" you say, your voice softening, breaking slightly at the end. "I really thought you were going to die on me."
That doesn't seem to ease him. He exhales through his nose in a deep, low grunt—not dismissive, but something closer to acknowledgment. The sound vibrates against your body, a warm, strange comfort. Then, with a fluid, instinctive movement, he adjusts your positions. His strength is effortless as he shifts, guiding you until you're lying beside him on the furs, your body drawn into his larger frame like a puzzle piece clicking into place.
His arm curls around your waist, securing you against his chest. It isn’t just for comfort—there is something possessive in the gesture, protective, as if he’s anchoring you there by will alone. The heat of him envelops you entirely, bleeding into your limbs until the cold stone floor feels like a distant memory.
"Does this mean..." you begin, your voice barely more than a whisper. But the thought drifts before it finishes, scattered like leaves on the wind. You have so many questions tumbling through your mind: What does this mean for him? For you? Is this temporary? Instinct? A sign of something deeper? But they all blur at the edges, softening under the pull of exhaustion.
Your body is finally registering the toll of the night. You had stayed up far too late, keeping vigil while Sylus paced, brooded, fought himself in silence. You hadn't let yourself rest until he did. Now, the weight of sleeplessness pulls at your limbs like gravity, and your eyelids feel impossibly heavy.
Outside, the first blush of morning glows gently. Sunlight begins to pour through the narrow cracks in the rock that serves as the cave’s natural door. The pale beams stretch across the stone floor like golden fingers, warming the air with soft radiance. The quiet sounds of the wilderness beyond stir faintly, muted by distance—birds beginning their morning calls, wind rustling through high branches.
Sylus doesn’t answer your unfinished thought. He merely presses closer, lowering his head to the crook of your neck. His breath fans across your skin in slow, even waves, and the low, rhythmic sound that rumbles from his chest is unmistakable. A purr. Deep and velvety. Content.
The sound settles into your bones, a vibration that eases the tightness from your shoulders and lulls the last frayed edges of fear from your heart. There is something incredibly grounding about it—like being cradled by the earth itself. One of his hands rests on your waist, fingers spread, as if silently promising that you are safe, that he will not let go.
You close your eyes, breathing in the scent of smoke and warmth and him. Despite the adrenaline, despite the questions that remain unanswered, your body begins to let go. Your thoughts drift. His purring fills the quiet like a lullaby spun from heat and breath and unspoken devotion.
Sleep takes you gently.
And you surrender to it, wrapped in Sylus’s arms, as the light of a new day filters through stone and silence alike.
As the days passed, you began to notice other, more subtle changes in Sylus's behavior—the kind of shifts that spoke not just of mood, but of instinct, of ritual. Of purpose.
It started gradually. At first, it was the gifts. Sylus had always brought you little trinkets here and there—a gleaming stone from a riverbed, a silver ring once forgotten in the ruins of some fallen estate, or a flower pressed flat and preserved between scraps of parchment. But now? Now he returned from his ventures with arms full of treasure.
You began to receive things that looked as though they had been pulled from the vaults of kings. Gemstones the size of your knuckles. Necklaces heavy with gold and set with fire-bright opals. Crowns, actual crowns, one with a missing jewel that he promised to "replace shortly." Delicate filigree bracelets and earrings of such craftsmanship that you wondered if they had come from the hands of mortals at all.
You accepted them, of course. How could you not? They dazzled the eye and stirred something deep within your chest—awe, gratitude, wonder. And then there was the way Sylus looked at you when you accepted each piece. The way he watched your reactions with quiet intensity, hunger and satisfaction warring in his gaze as your fingers traced the contours of every offered treasure.
"Is this suitable to your liking, beloved?" he would ask, voice a rich hum in your ear. There was always a thread of tension in his tone, a need that ran deeper than pride.
You’d smile and nod, sometimes laughing softly at the extravagance, sometimes whispering thanks as you leaned into his warmth. That always seemed to satisfy him. His shoulders would relax, his tail would curl in closer around you, and a low purr would rumble from deep in his chest.
And the gifts didn’t stop with jewels and gold.
His hunting habits changed too. Where once he had returned with modest catches—a brace of rabbits, a string of fish, the occasional deer—now he came back with trophies that left you reeling. Massive elk, towering wild boars with tusks the length of your forearm. Game that would feed you both for weeks. And then, one evening, he returned dragging behind him the largest bear you had ever seen.
Its massive body sprawled across the cave entrance like something out of legend. Thick fur matted with snow and blood, claws that could gouge stone. You stood frozen in the firelight, staring at it, unsure whether to marvel or panic.
Sylus merely stood beside it, chin slightly raised, one clawed hand resting on its flank like a proud hunter presenting a trophy.
"For you," he said simply, as if it were nothing.
You had blinked at him, stunned. "Sylus, I...I don’t even know how to cook that."
He grinned, utterly unbothered. "Then I will learn."
The gifts. The feasts. The constant nearness. The careful watching of your every reaction. You had thought it was simply Sylus being more open, more affectionate in the wake of your recent closeness.
You were trying not to overthink it. Truly, you were. Every part of you wanted to believe that all the changes were just instinct, affection taken to a slightly obsessive level. You’d chalked up the treasure hoarding, the feasts, the increased proximity, the way he hovered just a little too closely sometimes—all of it to simple fondness. Maybe even a primal form of love. But nothing could have prepared you for what awaited you after returning from a brisk walk one particularly chilly afternoon.
The moment you stepped through the threshold of the cave, you froze in place, heart lurching with confusion.
Sylus had completely transformed everything.
Gone were the scattered, mismatched piles of pelts, the half-organized piles of gold, the signs of his usual indifference to comfort or aesthetic. In their place was something deliberate. Thoughtful. Nest-like. The entire back of the cave had been cleared and restructured, centered around an enormous bed of furs that had been meticulously arranged. It looked almost ceremonial in its care.
The old sleeping area had been expanded, padded with thick layers of fur and hide—including the bear pelt from the beast he had dragged home days ago. It now lined the center of the nest, skinned, cleaned and softened into a thick, luxurious base. Softer animal hides had been layered on top, and the perimeter was reinforced with woven branches, dried moss, and feathers, creating a barrier of warmth and comfort.
It wasn’t just for practicality. It was beautiful.
There were little details everywhere. Smooth stones from your favorite riverbank placed in a pattern near the fire pit. Bits of dried herbs—the ones you loved for tea or the scent they gave when burned—tucked into the seams of the bedding. A string of beads you thought you’d lost was now nestled between two thick furs, as if it had been intentionally displayed.
You stood there for several seconds, mouth slightly open, completely unprepared.
"Sylus..." you breathed, your voice caught somewhere between awe and bewilderment. "What’s the meaning of all this?"
He looked up at you from where he knelt, smoothing out the bear fur with surprising tenderness. His expression was completely unreadable. Calm. Focused. As if this were the most natural thing in the world. "You were shivering at night," he said simply. "This will keep you warmer."
That might have been enough for anyone else. Practical. Logical. An easy excuse.
But his eyes told a different story.
He watched you too closely. Not just to gauge your reaction—but to savor it. There was something ancient and yearning behind the glow in his eyes, something that vibrated in the silence between his words. He was waiting. Not for your thanks, but for your approval.
Noticing your lack of response, Sylus's expression begins to shift. The warmth in his eyes dims, replaced by something sterner, more guarded. His tail flicks once behind him—a sharp, agitated motion that echoes his growing unease. He straightens his spine, his jaw tightening ever so slightly.
"Do you not like it?" he asks, his voice quieter now but unmistakably tense. There’s something beneath his words that makes your chest tighten—disappointment, certainly. But also something rawer. Doubt. Hurt. The faint tremor of vulnerability from someone unaccustomed to feeling exposed.
Your eyes widen, and guilt rises quickly in your throat. You hadn't meant to be silent for so long. You were simply overwhelmed—by the effort, by the meaning behind it all. But now, seeing the shift in his posture, the way his eyes avoid yours, you realize how that silence must have come off.
You quickly close the space between you, reaching out instinctively. Your hands lift to cradle his face, palms warm against his heated skin. You guide his gaze back to you, gently but insistently, your thumbs brushing over his cheekbones. His eyes flicker up to meet yours, searching your face as though still bracing for rejection.
"No," you say softly, firmly, your voice thick with emotion. "I love it. I really do. It's beautiful. I just...I don’t understand why. You don’t have to do all this. The gifts, the meat, the rearranging—I was already happy. I was perfectly content with how things were before."
Sylus doesn’t recoil. Instead, he leans into your touch just slightly, as though the reassurance eases something deep in his chest. The tightness in his shoulders begins to uncoil, and the tension etched into his brow softens. A quiet exhale escapes him, almost inaudible.
"You laughed," he murmurs after a moment, his voice roughened by something too ancient to be called simple sorrow. "When I spoke of mating season. I assumed then that you deemed me unworthy as a mate—ill-fitted to claim or keep one such as you."
You blink, taken aback. The memory of that moment resurfaces—your burst of laughter, the disbelief, the release of tension you hadn’t realized he was carrying so heavily. It hadn’t been mockery. But now, you see how it must have been received by someone like Sylus—a creature whose understanding of humor, especially human levity in the face of instinct, is limited by centuries of solemn tradition and a worldview where gestures hold more meaning than words.
"So...the jewels? The meat?" you ask gently, your voice cracking slightly as realization begins to sink in.
He lets out a low, almost frustrated huff, glancing to the side. His tail curls around one of your ankles without thought, anchoring you to him in a quiet, possessive motion. "To prove I can provide for you," he says simply. "And for our offspring that I hoped you'd bear."
The words hit you like a wave, your breath catching in your throat. Your heart swells and shatters at once, a knot forming deep in your chest. He really wanted a baby with you? To form new life? With you??
Because that was it, wasn’t it? This powerful, ancient creature—so feared, so composed, so unreadable to others—was doing everything in his power to show you his worth. Not by demanding your affection or asserting his claim, but by showing you how he could build a life around you. Make a place for you. Prepare for a future, one you hadn’t even considered yet.
He had rearranged his entire world to make space for you in it. Courted you to prove himself just as many of his species had done with their mates.
You looked at him now with new eyes, your throat tightening as you caressed the edge of his jaw.
"Sylus...you don’t have to prove anything to me. I never doubted your strength. I never doubted you for a single second. Sometimes humans laugh when we feel relieved. That's all."
You notice that he seemed to perk up ever so slightly, though his expression remained unreadable. His posture straightened by a fraction, the glow in his eyes shifting with something new—not quite relief, but intrigue. A subtle ripple of tension unwound in his shoulders, though he tried to mask it.
"Mortals laugh when they feel better?" he asked, voice low and gravelly, as if the question itself was unfamiliar. There was a curious tilt to his head, the tone almost scholarly—as if he were cataloging your species' behaviors like one would study a rare flame.
You nodded, giving him a gentle smile. "Yes. Laughter is...a release. I wasn’t mocking you, Sylus. I was relieved. It meant you weren’t dying. And...I think you would make a wonderful mate. And father. To our baby."
His grip on you suddenly shifted, tightening with sudden purpose. Not in a threatening way, but in a way that grounded you firmly against him—possessive, almost reverent. His pupils expanded rapidly, red irises eclipsed by black. A primal heat surged behind his gaze, burning steady and intent. You felt the growl in his chest before it even reached his lips, a low, rumbling vibration that poured through your body like a tremor.
"Then...you accept?" he asked slowly, the words thick with restrained emotion. "You will take my seed into you? You would bear my offspring?"
Your heart skipped a beat—no, several. Blood rushed to your cheeks, and you could feel your pulse hammering in your throat. He said it with such conviction, with none of the coy hesitations or evasive phrasing you were used to. Just truth. Raw and full of meaning. The ancient kind of promise that didn’t ask, but waited.
You hesitated, swallowing hard. "I mean...I do have my doubts," you admitted, fingers curling against his chest. Your fingers graze the edge of his scales. Your voice trembled slightly under the weight of his gaze. "I don’t think I’m strong enough to carry children of yours. Dragons are...different. Your children, they’d be massive, wouldn’t they?"
You tried to laugh. It came out tight, nervous. A shaky sound that barely carried.
But Sylus didn’t laugh. He didn’t smile. Instead, something deeper flickered behind his eyes—a hunger, yes, but also certainty. Purpose. Legacy.
A low, pleased growl rolled from the depths of his chest, his breath warm against your skin. You gasped as you felt his tail move, the strong, silken muscle winding slowly up your leg. It caressed your skin with practiced control, the movement deliberate. Purposeful. The hem of your dress lifted inch by inch under the teasing weight of his tail.
"Nonsense," he growled, and this time his voice was like smoke and stone. "You are more than capable. I would never choose a mate who was not capable of the task. Your body, your spirit, your frame—they are all sufficient. More than sufficient."
His claws ghosted over your hips, drawing you in closer, like a hunter gathering something sacred. You felt the heat of him, not just his body but his intent, his longing, the centuries of instinct that pulsed just beneath his skin.
"I'm not even sure if it will work..." you murmur, your voice laced with uncertainty. "Humans only ovulate for a short time. If that window's already passed—"
Sylus moves before you can finish. His body leans into yours with quiet purpose, and in an instant, the air shifts between you. His breath ghosts over your neck, warm and steady, and you shiver as his nose traces the delicate line of your throat. The movement is slow, deliberate—not just intimate, but instinctual. He inhales deeply, the sound low and resonant like something ancient stirring in his chest. The rumble that follows isn’t quite a growl, but it thrums through you like thunder beneath the earth.
Your breath catches, your face flushing as your heart pounds against your ribs. You can feel the heat rising in you, pooling low, your body reacting before your mind can catch up.
You search his face for doubt, but find none. Only certainty.
So, you were ovulating, and he could smell it—and worse, he wasn’t just aroused by it; he was called by it.
You feel your nerves ease, if only a little. Sylus was dependable—fierce, steady, and impossibly sure in the way only something ancient could be. For all his intensity, he had never once let harm come to you, had never faltered in his protection. And now, with the weight of everything shifting between you, that truth brought the smallest measure of calm. If he said he would keep you safe, you believed him. If he said he would protect the life growing between you, you knew it to be a vow etched in something deeper than words.
The idea of having a baby had once seemed distant, more fantasy than reality. Something soft and quiet that belonged to another version of your life, another world entirely. But now? Now it felt inevitable. Natural. Fated. Like every step had led to this moment, and all that was left was to lean into it.
He wanted this with you. You could see it in everything he did: the nesting, the offerings, the way he curled around you at night like a guardian warding off the dark. His every action had been leading here, even if you hadn’t recognized it at the time. And though nerves still fluttered in your chest like a thousand wings, the deeper truth remained. You wanted it too. You weren’t entirely prepared, not yet, but you were ready to say yes.
You looked into his eyes, your heart thundering, and gave a small but certain nod. "Okay. I accept."
Those three words changed everything.
It was as if a switch had been flipped inside him, something primal and powerful released from its cage. You barely had time to react before he swept you off the ground with effortless strength. You gasped, your hands clutching at his shoulders as he cradled you against his chest, his expression focused, almost reverent. In mere seconds, he had crossed the room and laid you gently down on the massive bed of furs he had so meticulously prepared—his gift to you, his offering.
The nest was impossibly warm, soft and inviting, wrapping around your back and shoulders like it had been waiting for this moment. You could feel the heat of his body above you, the power in his frame held taut just beneath the surface. He hovered for a breath, eyes raking over you, and then his tail moved—snaking up one leg, coiling slowly with deliberate grace.
The fabric of your dress tightened as his tail looped beneath it, and you barely had time to gasp before you heard the slow, purposeful sound of it tearing. With practiced precision, his tail shredded the fabric, beginning to peel it away from your body with a hunger that had been restrained for too long. Each thread undone was like a silent declaration: mine, mine, mine.
You felt a rush of cool air against your skin, and your breasts were exposed to his gaze. You could sense his eyes on you, drinking in the sight of your bare skin and hardened nipples, you felt a shiver run down your spine. Your breasts bounced slightly as you shifted, and you could feel his gaze following the movement, his eyes hungrily taking in every detail.
You instinctively tried to shield yourself, your arms moving to cross your chest, but he was quicker. His tail wrapped around your wrists with gentle but unyielding strength, keeping you exposed beneath him. Vulnerable. Claimed.
He leaned in closer, breath hot against your skin, and you felt it hitch as he studied you like something sacred. There was a deep rumble in his chest, not quite a growl but something more ancient—a sound of possession and awe.
"This will not be gentle," he murmured, voice low and rough like gravel smoothed by fire. "But do not fret. I will take care not to hurt you, beloved."
His words settled over you like a brand, searing into your skin. There was something sacred in them, a promise forged not in softness, but in strength—and devotion.
And the way he said it, with such conviction and tempered need, made your breath stutter and your fear crumble, replaced with something far more powerful:
Desire. Acceptance. Surrender.
His voice was a low rumble, "I want to see you. All of you." His eyes met yours, seeking consent, respectful despite the fierce hunger within. You nodded, your heart still pounding, but the fear was gone, replaced by a strong lust you didn't know you had.
He reached for the remnants of your dress, his touch gentle yet firm as he pushed the rest of the fabric off you. It slipped down your body, leaving you bare except for your undergarments. His breath hitched, his gaze roaming over you, worshipful and hungry.
"You're beautiful" he murmured, his voice thick with emotion. "Like a dream I never dared to have." He leaned down, his lips met yours, a soft, tender kiss that belied the intensity of his gaze. It was a question, a request for permission to explore further. You responded, your body melting into his, your lips parting to deepen the kiss. He tasted of smoke and spice, a heady combination that made your head spin. His claws, those large, warm claws, traced the curve of your neck, your shoulders, your breasts, leaving a trail of fire in their wake.
You gasped, breaking the kiss, your body arching into his touch. He smiled, a slow, predatory smile that sent shivers down your spine. "I want to hear you," he whispered, his breath hot on your ear. "I want to hear every sound you make, every gasp, every moan." He captured your mouth again, his tongue delving in, exploring, tasting. His hands continued their journey, tracing the curve of your waist, your hips, the soft flesh of your thighs. He hooked his fingers into the waistband of your undergarments, pulling back to look at you.
He slid the underwear down your legs, his eyes never leaving yours. You felt a shiver of anticipation and vulnerability, but the heat in his gaze, the raw desire, kept you from feeling exposed again. He stood up, his tail unwrapping from your waist, and you missed the contact instantly. But he was back in a moment, his hands on your knees, gently pushing them apart.
He knelt down, his gaze still locked with yours, and you felt a jolt of surprise and excitement. His rough claws traced up your inner thighs, his touch feather-light, sending shivers through you. You could feel the heat of his breath on you, and you squirmed, your body aching with anticipation. He smiled, a slow, knowing smile, and leaned in.
His long tongue found your aching bud, hot and wet, and you gasped, your body arching off the pile of furs. He made a sound, a low growl of pleasure, and the vibration sent waves of sensation through you. He gripped your thighs, holding you in place as he explored you, his tongue and lips driving you to the edge. You could feel the pressure building, your body coiling tight, and you grasped the furs beneath you, your knuckles turning paler.
"Thank you for agreeing to give me the gift of new life" His gaze held you captive, even as his tongue continued its torturous, delightful dance. You felt a flush spread across your body, your cheeks burning with a mix of embarrassment and arousal.
But you didn't look away. You held his gaze, your breath coming in ragged gasps, your body writhing with each flick of his tongue. He groaned, the sound vibrating through you, pushing you closer to the edge. You could feel it, the pleasure building, coiling tight like a spring ready to snap. "Sylus," you gasped, his name a plea on your lips.
He growled in response, his fingers digging into your thighs as he redoubled his efforts. The room spun, the golden light blurring around you. Your body tensed, every muscle coiled tight, and then, with a cry, you shattered. Waves of pleasure crashed over you, drowning you in sensation. You felt Sylus's claws on you, steadying you, his tail wrapping around you, holding you close as you rode out the storm. When the world came back into focus, you found yourself cradled in Sylus arms, your body still trembling with aftershocks. He was looking down at you, his eyes soft with concern and something else...a deep, profound satisfaction.
As you finally noticed the absence of his usual belt, your eyes widened in shock. There, at you waist, were not one, but two substantially sized cocks, side by side, both throbbing with desire. You could've sworn he only had one before?? A wave of heat rushed to your face, and you felt a surge of panic. You tried to wriggle free, to create some distance, but Sylus's grip only tightened. He growled, a low, primal sound that sent shivers down your spine, as you managed to shift into a crawling position. But your brief moment of triumph was short-lived.
With a swift move, he grabbed you around the waist, pulling you back towards him. You could feel his hot breath on your neck as he forced you face down onto the soft furs, his body pressing heavily against yours. "You cannot run from this," he rasped, his voice thick with lust and determination. "Be still." The fear that had been lurking within you surged back, filling every fiber of your being. You knew, with a certainty that was both terrifying and exhilarating, that there would be no escape. Not this time. Not until he had marked you, claimed you, bred you. His need was too great, his desire to leave his seed within you too strong to change your mind now.
As Sylus began to push his first cock into you, you felt a searing pain and a sense of being stretched to the limit. You realized, with a jolt of fear, that he hadn't been lying when he said this wouldn't be gentle. His cock was like a battering ram, forcing its way into your tight pussy with a ferocity that left you breathless. He let out a fierce growl of pleasure, pushing himself as deep as he could possibly go inside your walls.
He pumped feverishly, his hips moving with the strength and power of a beast. You groaned, your voice hoarse and barely audible, as your pussy was forced to take the pounding he was giving you. The sensation was overwhelming, a mix of pain and pleasure that left you gasping for air and gripping the fur beneath you.
His cock was huge, and it felt like it was tearing you apart, stretching your walls to the limit. You felt like you were being ripped in two, your body struggling to accommodate the size and strength of his thrusts. But Sylus didn't seem to care, his face twisted in a snarl of pleasure as he pounded into you with reckless abandon.
You were at his mercy, unable to escape the torrent of sensations that he was unleashing on your body. Your mind was a jumble of pain and pleasure, your body torn between the pain of his thrusts and the thrill of being taken by a creature so powerful and dominant. You felt his second cock rubbing itself between the rounds of your ass.
As Sylus continued to pump into you, his face twisted in a snarl of pleasure, he leaned in close and whispered in your ear.
"You'll never want for anything, beloved," he growled, voice low and reverent, thick with the weight of promise. It wasn’t just a statement. It was a vow. An oath carved from the bones of instinct, older than memory and heavier than gold. His breath was hot against your neck, his words brushing over your skin like fire.
"Not once," he continued, a possessive rumble threading through each syllable, "not once you're full with my children."
There was no shame in his tone, no hesitation. Just certainty. Purpose. He spoke like a dragon made flesh, a creature built for legacy, for claiming, for protecting what was his with unrelenting devotion. His hand traced your side as he spoke, the motion slow and reverent, as if feeling the space where new life would soon grow.
"Yes...yes give me as many children as you want Sylus, I want them all..." you begged, feeling yourself beginning to drool into the furs.
Your voice was barely above a whisper, but it seemed to have a profound effect on Sylus. His eyes flashed with a fierce light, and his face twisted in a snarl of pleasure.
Without warning, he pulled his cock out of you, the sudden withdrawal leaving you feeling empty and uneasy. But before you could even catch your breath, he flipped you around, his hands grasping your hips and pulling you back onto his cock. You felt him shove his cock balls deep inside you once again, the sudden invasion making you gasp with shock and pleasure.
You were stretched to the limit, your body struggling to accommodate the size and strength of his thrusts. But Sylus didn't seem to care, his face twisted in a mask of pleasure and desire. He pumped into you with a fierce intensity, his hips moving with a rapid, pounding rhythm that left you breathless and gasping. You felt his second cock sliding in harmonious rhythm across your stomach as he continued to pump the other inside you.
Sylus's movements grow frantic, each thrust more desperate than the last. The heat builds between you, an unstoppable force that drives you both to the edge. His breath hitches, and you can feel the tension coiling in his muscles, ready to snap.
With a final, forceful thrust, he slams deep inside you, a low groan ripping from his chest as he cums. The heat floods into you, a searing wave of release that leaves you both gasping. As he rides out the last pulses of his climax, he leans forward, sinking his teeth into your shoulder. The bite is sharp, claiming, sending a shock through your body that mingles with the aftershocks of his release.
You're both slicked in sweat, your chests rising and falling in a staggered rhythm as you cling to each other, trembling and utterly spent. The cave around you is dense with heat and the scent of exertion, the air thick enough to drink. Your skin is flushed, tingling, every nerve alight from the intensity of what has just passed between you. You feel the large amount of cum he shot inside you begin to spill out, making your thighs stick together. It’s hard to tell where your body ends and his begins—his warmth wraps around you like a living cocoon, steady and ever-present.
Every breath you take is his, pulled in from the narrow space between your mouths, and every exhale becomes a shared offering. His body is heavy over yours, enveloping, protective. You’re still reeling, caught somewhere between bliss and disbelief, when Sylus leans down and claims your lips in a kiss—fierce, unrelenting, yet reverent. It isn’t rushed. It’s deep, meaningful, and possessive in a way that leaves your heart pounding anew.
"Can you help me up?" you whisper, voice trembling, your limbs aching with fatigue. You lift a shaky hand, fingers brushing the fresh mark on your shoulder. The skin there is tender and warm, a physical memory of him etched into your flesh.
Sylus pulls back just enough to look at you, a small smile touching his lips. There’s affection in his gaze, but it’s layered with something else—something feral, possessive, unwavering. You blink at him, puzzled by the look he gives you, your breath catching as your body anticipates an answer.
"We aren’t finished, beloved" he murmurs, his voice like a caress wrapped in iron. The timbre of it thrums through your bones. He motions to his other member, still throbbing with need on your stomach. "I still have seed stored. I told you this would not be brief. We won’t be done until I am certain—utterly certain—that my seed has taken root."
The words wash over you like a second wave of heat. You feel it building again—not fear, not even hesitation. Just the slow, inevitable rush of anticipation. Your breath shudders as he presses closer once more, and the look in his eyes makes your heart stutter. He is so sure. So devoted. So...inescapably yours.
This isn’t just instinct anymore. It isn’t mere biology. It’s a vow, an offering, a claiming that comes from something sacred and ancient within him.
And as his lips brush against your throat, his tail curling possessively around your thigh again, you know one thing for certain:
Sylus isn’t finished.
And this becomes abundantly clear as he pushes his second cock inside you.
The next two days blur together in a haze of heat and aching limbs. Sylus is relentless—a creature driven by instinct and obsession, bound not just by desire but by an instinctual need to claim and secure what he now considers his. The cavern is filled with the sounds of breathless gasps, low growls, and the slick sound of bodies tangled in devotion and purpose.
There is barely a moment to rest. He presses into you again and again, each time with a ferocity that leaves you trembling, breathless, dazed. He rarely lets you catch your breath before pulling you close once more, whispering possessive promises into your ear, vowing over and over that he will not stop until he knows that his seed has taken root.
Still, there are brief breaks. Moments when he leaves to hunt, returning with food to replenish your strength. He never brings back just a meal—he returns with offerings: rare fruit, tender meats, things he’s sure will sustain and strengthen you. His eyes scan you for any signs of weakness, worry carved into the lines of his face even through the veil of lust that constantly clouds him.
One such time, you had tried to redress yourself, more out of instinct than shame. But when he returned and found you clothed again, his eyes darkened, the low sound of displeasure vibrating in his chest. He had stalked over to you, roughly tearing the garments off of your body, scattering them on the stone floor in pieces.
"Sylu-"
"No," he murmured, his voice low and rough, "You are to remain bare for me. Ready. Always."
And with those words, he had taken you again roughly, until the floor was soaked in his cum, as if to remind you that your body was his haven now—a vessel for something sacred. And this continued hourly, even when you had just awoken from a nap. He simply would spread your legs and begin pumping himself inside you. You welcomed this of course, figuring he was just following what his instincts were telling him to do.
Eventually, his frenzy began to slow. The fire that had once consumed him now burned low and steady, replaced by a quieter, more reverent form of devotion. Weeks passed in a blur of rest, warmth, and gentle touches, and then came the shift—he began to note that you smelled different. His sharp senses detected it before you felt a thing. He would murmur it against your skin, nose pressed to your neck or your belly, voice thick with wonder.
"You carry new life," he’d whisper.
At first, you rolled your eyes and laughed it off, teasing him for being so certain. You didn't want to get your hopes up. But soon, you began to feel it too—a flutter, faint and flickering like butterfly wings deep within. The first time it happened, you froze, a hand going instinctively to your belly. Sylus noticed immediately, his head snapping up, eyes wide.
"Did you feel it?"
You nodded slowly, hand still pressed to the gentle curve of your stomach. He was elated. Absolutely overcome with joy. He knelt before you and kissed your belly with a soft, contented purr rumbling from deep in his chest, his tail wrapping protectively around your ankles.
True to his word, he kept his promise. You never wanted for anything. He hunted only the best for you, brought the juiciest fruit, the most nourishing roots. He prepared meals with painstaking care, even if he didn’t eat most of it himself. When your back ached or your feet swelled, he massaged you with surprising tenderness, his large hands easing every knot and tension from your tired limbs. At night, he curled around you like a shield, his wings a blanket of protection, whispering soft things in a language you didn’t always understand.
Eventually, your clothes grew too tight to wear. Your belly swelled gloriously with life, and you gave up trying to force yourself into fabric that no longer fit. You wandered the cave freely, naked and glowing, your hands always resting protectively on your rounded stomach. Sylus didn’t mind in the slightest. He thought you looked divine.
Even in the later stages of your pregnancy, when walking made you tired and your body ached from the weight of his child, he still looked at you with hunger in his eyes. He remained ever ready to take you, though now with more patience, more gentleness to not hurt you or the baby. His touches were slow, reverent, his need no less intense but guided now by something softer—an unshakable adoration.
To him, you were more than his mate.
You were the future of his lineage. A living miracle he worshiped with every breath.
He was awoken one morning by the soft, fragile sound of you whining beside him—a breathy, instinctive noise that sliced through the quiet like a blade, shattering the peace of dawn. Instantly, he was alert, his senses snapping into sharp focus. In one smooth, practiced motion, he propped himself up on one elbow and leaned over you, red eyes scanning your body with fierce, frantic protectiveness. His hands hovered inches from your skin, as though afraid to touch and yet desperate to find the source of your distress.
When he found no visible wounds, he moved lower, his tail curling around your leg and lifting it gently. What he saw next made him still completely—and then smile, slow and reverent. A sheen of clear fluid glistened at your thighs. His chest swelled with emotion, and a warm, knowing glow filled his gaze.
It was time.
His breath caught in his throat, and the world seemed to narrow around this one miraculous truth. He leaned down, pressed his forehead to yours, and gently shook you awake, voice husky with emotion. "Wake, beloved," he murmured. "The hour is upon us."
What followed was the longest, most grueling day and a half of your life. The cave became a sanctuary of primal sound and sacred pain—the sharp edge of your cries echoing off the stone walls, the slow, rhythmic cadence of your breathing, and Sylus’s steady, grounding presence through it all. The space that had once been a den of passion now transformed into a place of birth and bond, of new beginnings.
He had prepared for this, of course. He always did. A nest of soft animal pelts had been lovingly arranged just days prior, thick and warm and perfectly layered to support your aching, straining body. You lay upon them, your skin damp with sweat, hair plastered to your temples, your belly tightening again and again with each new contraction. The pain was searing, unforgiving, your body fighting for every inch of progress.
And Sylus never left your side. Not for a moment.
He positioned himself behind you, his body acting as both cradle and shield. His larger frame curved protectively around yours, arms curled reverently over your middle, claws softened and carefully restrained so they wouldn’t harm you. He rubbed slow, grounding circles into the swell of your belly, the weight of his presence a balm against the storm.
His lips brushed your shoulder often, murmuring affirmations and praise, voice a low, calming purr that vibrated through your bones. His tail coiled gently around your thigh, anchoring you when you trembled. Whenever you cried out or whimpered in agony, he was there—not panicked, not shaken, but steady. Fierce.
"Breathe, my love," he whispered again and again, the words threaded with admiration. "You’re strong. So strong. You were made for this."
There was never a flicker of doubt in his eyes. He watched you with awe, holding space for your pain and your power, never wavering. His devotion took on a quiet intensity, every touch purposeful, every breath synchronized with yours. When you broke down in tears, sobbing through another wave of pain, he kissed your temple, held your hand, and wrapped you tighter in his warmth.
He treated you like something sacred—not just the mother of his child, but the miracle who bore his legacy. There was reverence in the way he touched you, in how he shifted with you through every hour, how his purring grew louder as your contractions deepened. You were his whole world in those moments, and he made sure you felt it.
As the hours stretched into exhaustion and time lost all meaning, he remained your constant.
And when the sharp, piercing cry of a newborn echoed through the cave, Sylus felt the breath leave his lungs entirely. The sound struck him like thunder, powerful and sacred, and his eyes locked on the sight before him: you, cradling the small, wriggling form against your chest. You were slick with sweat, flushed from exertion, but your smile—soft, exhausted, and full of wonder for your new baby—was the most radiant thing he had ever seen.
He moved toward you reverently, as if approaching something divine. But as he leaned in closer, a deep instinct stirred within him, passed down through countless generations. His tongue flicked out ever so slightly, and his body tensed with the urge to clean the newborn himself—the way his kind had always done.
You caught the motion and gave him a knowing look, gently placing a hand on his cheek. "No licking," you whispered with a tired laugh. "That’s not how we do it."
It took some convincing, his instincts hard to quiet, but he eventually yielded, watching with wide-eyed fascination as you showed him the human way. Warm cloths, gentle strokes, soft murmurs of comfort.
He knelt beside you, silent and attentive, absorbing every detail.
And though he did not get to perform the ritual of his bloodline, he found something just as profound in learning yours.
Together, you welcomed new life in a way that blended two worlds into one.
A Protocore throws you and Xavier two years into the future. You end up on his balcony. Your future selves end up against the glass door 😏.

Caleb's part here. Sylus part here
"Please tell me that's the last one"
The air reeked of burned grass and dead wanderers. You let out a long breath and let your shoulders drop as the last Wanderer dissolved into light that flickered once and went dark.
A few paces away, Xavier had a few hair strands stuck to his forehead and a thin sheen of sweat at his throat, and that was the extent of the damage. Meanwhile you looked like you'd been dragged behind a truck.
"Perimeter's clear," he said, quiet, like nothing in the world could rattle him. He crossed the debris toward you, boots crunching over glass and rubble. "You're bleeding, though."
You looked down. A chunk of crystal debris had opened a gash along your calf and you hadn't even noticed.
"Huh. Didn't feel that happen."
"Let me look at it." He dropped to one knee, taking a bandage roll out of your hands before you'd even fully pulled it from your pouch.
His hands were warm. Warmer than it made sense, given the cold. When he folded the torn fabric of your pants back to get at the wound, his fingers grazed bare skin and something jumped straight up your spine. You bit down on the inside of your cheek so you wouldn't make a sound about it.
This was the problem with Xavier. Some days he fell asleep against your shoulder like it was the safest place in the world. Other days he kept a careful distance between you and answered everything in a polite, unreadable tone, and you were left wondering if you'd imagined the whole thing.
"Does that hurt?" his thumb pressed against the unbroken skin just above it — the touch was not necessary to wrap the bandage.
"A little," you said, watching the top of his head, how the moonlight caught the color of his hair. "Xavier. Can I ask you something?"
His hands didn't stop moving, but his shoulders went still. "Yeah."
"Why do you do this?" You asked flatly, too tired to dress it up. "Sometimes I think we’re... I don't know, really close. And then other times, you look at me like I'm just another Hunter from the Association. It's confusing."
He finished tying off the gauze, stood up and finally looked at you "I just think about things. More than I probably should."
He reached out to help you up, hands closing firm around your forearms.
"Think about what?"
You went to test your weight on the bandaged leg and the ground chose that second to be uneven. You pitched forward, right into him, your chest hitting his. His hands slid from your arms to your waist to catch you.
Neither of you moved.
You could feel his heart going fast under his uniform, which didn't match the calm on his face at all. His eyes dropped to your mouth, came back up.This is happening, you thought, a little dizzy with it. He's actually going to—.
His grip on your waist tightened. Something cracked open behind his eyes, just for a second "You shouldn't stand this close to me"
"Xavier—"
He stepped back before you could get anything else out.
Crunch. Something snapped under his boot.
A white protocore.
He picked it and it suddenly went off with light, a white light expanding outward faster than you could track. The air got sucked straight out of your lungs. Your ears popped hard enough to hurt, and then the ruins, the sky, and everything else was sucked into a roar of wind that yanked you forward like the world had grabbed you by the throat.
You hit something solid and warm.
"Oof — sorry —"
A grunt came from underneath you. You blinked against sudden dark, hands slapping down flat against Xavier's chest. You were sprawled on top of him, legs tangled, face mashed against his neck.
"Oh my god." You scrambled back so fast you scraped your palms on the floor. "Sorry — are you okay?"
Xavier sat up slowly, rubbing the back of his neck, hair falling into his eyes. "Fine. Are you hurt?"
"No, I— " You stopped. Looked around. "Wait."
You weren't standing in the ruins anymore. You were standing on a balcony with black wrought iron railing and a view of city streets that looked oddly familiar.
"Is this our building?" You turned in a slow circle, "Xavier, did you just teleport us home?"
"I didn't teleport us anywhere."
"You definitely did something..."
"I didn't" He was already moving past you toward the railing, scanning it like it might answer a question you hadn't asked yet.
"Okay, well, something got us here," you said, following him. "So if it wasn't you, what was it?"
He didn't answer right away. He crouched by one of the plants, fingers brushing the soil. Damp. Recently turned. "I don't have an explanation for this."
"When did you get so many plants?."
He moved to a small table near, where two mugs sat, both used, one rimmed faintly with lipstick.
"This is kind of freaking me out."
You spotted a newspaper folded beside the mugs and reached for it before he could stop you.
The date on the header didn't make sense. You read it twice.
"Xavier." You held it out to him, throat tight.
He took it, scanning it fast, and for the first time all night something like real alarm broke through his usual calm. "This is two years out."
"Two years." You said it slow, testing the weight of it. "Okay. We're just —somewhere else. Somewhere with your exact view, which is a really specific coincidence, but fine, sure, this is wrong, so so wrong—"
"Calm down."
"Xavier."
"What."
You pointed, wordless, toward the far corner of the balcony, where a lumpy, badly painted bird feeder hung crooked from its hook, one wing chipped clean off. You'd have known it anywhere.
"That's Fatso"s" you said.
Xavier followed your finger, and whatever he'd been telling himself died on his face.
You grabbed for your communicator on reflex. Dead screen. "No signal," you said, more to yourself than to him.
"Mine's the same. Clock's not even holding steady." He pocketed the device "We need to see what's inside. If someone's living here, we ask them what year it is."
"Oh yeah because that is a completely normal question to walk in and ask a stranger."
"Stay behind me," he reached for the handle on the sliding glass door, testing the weight of it without committing to opening it yet. Behind the curtain, something moved.
You froze. Your fingers found the sleeve of his uniform and held on.
A hand pressed flat against the glass from the other side of the curtain, fingers spread.
Xavier looked ready to run.
A second hand appeared beside it. Bigger. Scarred across the knuckles. Something in your chest went cold with recognition even before your brain caught up. The second hand moved to close over the first, fingers lacing through.
There were two people on the other side of that door. And from the way the curtain was moving, they were not just standing there.
"Xavier," you whispered, barely any air behind it at all.
He didn't answer. He didn't move his hand off the door either —just stood there frozen, staring at those hands through the glass like his whole nervous system had collapsed.
Then he moved. His hand closed around your shoulder and pulled, one smooth backward motion that tucked you both into a narrow space where the balcony wall met the building's outer brick. The spot was tight —barely enough room for two people to stand without touching —and the angle it gave you was merciless. The glass door sat directly in your line of sight, lit from inside.
You should have looked away immediately.
But you didn't.
The curtains moved a bit. Two bodies, pressed close. The woman's face was hidden, her head tipped back behind the line of the man's shoulder. His face was visible. Hair catching the light. That jaw.
Xavier
The anger came fast and hot and settled behind your sternum like coal. Months of warmth and then distance. Months of patience that felt like it was always just about to become something and never did —and here was the answer to all of it, pressed against a glass door in an apartment that was still his, two years from now, with someone else.
He was kissing her the way someone kisses when they've stopped being careful about it. Deep, his hands dragging her back against him, the movements of his lower body slow and unmistakable.
You looked away. Focused on a crack running through the middle of the wall beside you. Breathed through your nose.
Beside you, Xavier was still looking. His face was flushed.
"Is that—" His voice came out wrong.
"Yup," you said. The bitterness in it sharper than you'd intended. "That's you"
A sound came through the glass.
The impact of skin against the glass door followed immediately by a broken moan, the sound dragged your eyes back to the glass door against your will.
The curtain had been pulled aside all the way.
The view was now unobstructed.
The woman was pressed flat against the glass, her bare breasts against the cold pane, her hands finding the frame for something to hold onto. Her face was fully visible now.
The anger in your chest went out like a light.
It was your face.
Your shoulders, your hands, the sound of your own voice coming through the glass in pieces, breathless and nothing like anything you'd heard from yourself before. Your future self's cheek was pressed to the glass too, eyes half closed, lips parted around sounds that weren't words.
Future Xavier's teeth found her shoulder and bit down, not gently, leaving something that would be visible tomorrow. His hand came around the front of her, sliding between her thighs to line his beautiful cock against her entrance.
Then he drove forward.
The sound she made came through the glass loud and clear and a small involuntary noise started building in your own throat.
Xavier's palm came over your mouth.
Fast. Firm. His fingers sealing the sound in before it could escape. His hand was shaking.
The glass door shook with the next impact. And the next.
Xavier had his mouth at her ear saying something you couldn't hear through the glass but could read in the way her expression changed when he said it.
Xavier made half a sound against the back of your head and he immediately swallowed the other half.
You felt it anyway. Felt the way his arm tightened across your chest, felt the unsteady rhythm of his breathing where his chest pressed into your back.
You couldn't look away from his face —the future version of the face that was currently breathing against your temple— wearing an expression you'd never seen on him before.
"Xavier," you said, against his palm. Muffled.
His arm tightened.
"Xavier." Louder this time, enough that he could feel the shape of his name against his hand.
His mouth dropped to your ear "Don't move." The words came out rough "If they see us—"
Inside the apartment, your future self pressed her palm hard against her lips.
Future Xavier's hand closed around her wrist.
He pulled it down. He held her hand at her side and kept it there, and when she turned her face toward him he was already looking at her.
He wanted to hear her.
Below you a glass door scraped open.
One floor down, a man stepped out onto his balcony. Cigarette unlit between his fingers, head tilted slightly, listening to the night.
You pressed further into the shadow.
The rhythm inside the apartment changed. Not slower. The opposite. The glass shook in its frame and the sounds coming through it stopped being something that could be mistaken for anything else, and the man one floor down stopped trying to light his cigarette.
You looked at future Xavier's face.
His eyes were angled down and to the left.
He picked up the pace.
She tried again, her hand came up toward her mouth. Future Xavier caught her wrist without looking and his mouth moved against her ear again.
Whatever it was, she stopped trying to be quiet.
You thought about what you'd just watched him do. The escalation. The man on the balcony below. The reason your future self's hand kept getting pulled back down.
Was he jealous of that stranger?
Inside, her feet left the ground. Xavier had both arms around her, her arms caught under his, breast bouncing with every thrust.
You saw it first.
An unmistakable pressure beneath the surface of her stomach. Moving with every thrust. A belly bulge.
Your mouth went dry.
She was dripping. You could see it even through the glass —the inside of her thighs slick and glistening where his movements had worked everything down, coating her skin, catching the apartment light every time he pulled back. The glass had a faint fog to it from her breath, small clouds appearing and disappearing with each exhale.
The deep flush running from her chest to her throat made something in your lower stomach pull tight.
The Xavier beside you tracked every place her body responded to him, her hardened nipples, the way her toes curled against nothing, the flutter beneath her skin that mapped exactly where he was.
Crash
A flower pot.
It hit the floor and you both stopped breathing.
Inside the apartment, silence.
Immediate and total.
Through the glass you watched future Xavier's head come up. No panic in it. No confusion. Just a slow turn toward the sound, his eyes moving through the dark until they found the spot where the two of you were standing.
He couldn't see you. The angle was wrong, the shadow too deep.
He knew someone was there anyway.
His expression went cold and your future self said something against his chest. The curtain moved slowly across the glass from inside and the light behind it went out.
You had thirty seconds. Maybe less.
Xavier crouched beside you. The Protocore looked small against his palm, throwing a faint white pulse between his fingers for just a second.
The glass door began to slide open.
The air changed, the balcony, the broken pot, the man with his unlit cigarette, all of it collapsing into white noise and rushing dark.
You hit the ground hard. Your knees met broken stone, the air was knocked out of you on impact and you spent the first few seconds just existing on the ground.
Xavier landed beside you.
You pushed yourself up to sitting. "So..."
Xavier said nothing.
"That was weird."
Still nothing.
"We were—"
"I saw it" he opened his hand and noticed the Protocore was gone "I was standing right next to you."
"So we're both aware of what we watched."
"Yes."
"And we're not going to talk about it?"
He looked at you. "Are you going to be able to not talk about it?"
"Probably not."
He made a sound that wasn't quite a sigh, stood up and offered you a hand. You took it and he pulled you to your feet and didn't immediately let go.
"That man on the balcony," you said.
Xavier's jaw moved. "What about him."
"Future you saw him and then—"
"I know what he did." He dropped your hand. Turned to look at anything that wasn't your face. "You don't need to walk me through it."
"I'm just—" You pressed your lips together, trying very hard not to smile, it felt inappropriate and also completely unavoidable "Was he showing off?"
"We're not talking about that."
"Xavier—"
"Not yet." He said it quietly. Just a line in the ground, clearly drawn. "Not tonight. There's—" He exhaled. "There's a lot I need to sit with before I talk about any of it."
You nodded. That felt fair.
You started walking, picking your way back through the rubble toward the gap in the wall where you'd come in, and Xavier fell into step beside you like he always did —slightly behind, slightly to your left, a position that meant he could see everything around you before you could.
The walk back was quiet. You were almost at the gap in the wall when he spoke.
"Can I ask you something."
"Go ahead."
He was quiet for a beat. Just long enough that you glanced over at him.
"Future me?" he said. "Or me?"
You stopped walking. "What?"
"You heard me. Who do you like more?
"Xavier, that's not—you are the same person—"
"Future me is two years ahead and has information I don't have and he was doing—" a small pause, "—things to you that I have not yet done. So. Future me or me?"
You stared at him.
He stared back.
"That is the most ridiculous question you've ever asked me"
"Humor me."
"You"
Something in his face changed.
"Good," he said.
"But future you did have his—"
The not quite smile disappeared. "We're going home," he said, and turned toward the gap in the wall.
You followed him, and you were very glad he was walking ahead of you this time because the smile on your face was not something you were ready to explain.
You and Caleb are accidentally hurled two years into the future, straight into his apartment. Trapped in a closet, you’re forced to watch your future selves fuck like they’ve been starving for each other.
The art that inspired this fic: https://x.com/i/status/2077008975359525093
The heat at Grandma's house during peak summer was its own particular brand of suffering. It wasn't the same as the sharp dry heat of the city, this was heavy and wet and it made the air taste like cut grass and warm concrete. By ten in the morning you'd already sweated through your first shirt. By noon you'd given up on doing anything productive.
Which was how you and Caleb ended up in the kitchen at two in the afternoon, arguing about stupid stuff, because there was nothing else to do.
"We're out of green onions," he announced with his head inside the fridge. "And ginger. Grandma said we have to buy soy sauce and it has to be the right brand."
"Which brand?"
He turned around with an expression that said he had absolutely no idea.
"Great," you said. "Really helpful."
"She showed me once. It has a red label. Or maybe yellow." He pulled out a tote bag from the cabinet and dropped it on the counter in your direction. "We'll figure it out when we're there."
"The market is a fifteen minute walk in this heat."
"Then we should leave now."
"Caleb—"
He was already heading for the door. "Come on."
You grabbed the bag and your sunglasses and followed him out into the heat, which hit you like a wall the second you stepped off the porch.
The neighborhood was quiet on summer afternoons, everyone wanted to be inside with their fans on. You walked beside Caleb through streets you'd both known since childhood, past the park, past the corner ice cream store with the faded awning, past Mrs. Yuen's house with the wind chimes that had been making the same sound for fifteen years.
He was telling you about an incident with a new recruit that had happened at a training exercise last month and you were laughing.
"Did he get hurt?" you managed.
"Bruised his ego more than anything." Caleb pushed your sunglasses up. "Poor guy spent the rest of the session pretending it hadn't happened."
The market was cool and smelled like the same brand of air freshener they'd been using since you were ten. You grabbed a basket and split off toward the vegetables while Caleb wandered in the direction of the snack aisle, which —you'd learned over years of shared grocery runs— meant you were going to spend the next several minutes complaining about his choices.
You found the green onions. Found the ginger. Turned the corner into the snack aisle and found Caleb standing in front of the chips with two bags in his hands, deliberating.
"We don't need chips," you said.
"Yes we do."
"We have food at home."
"Chips are not food, chips are a separate category." He held them both up. "Salt and vinegar or barbecue."
"Neither. We're here for dinner ingredients."
"And chips." He put the barbecue in the basket.
You took it out. He put it back in.
"Caleb."
"It's for the walk home. You'll want some on the walk home."
"You are so—" You stopped, pointed at his chest. "Fine. One bag. And you're carrying it."
He was already reaching for a second one.
"One bag."
"Salt and vinegar for you, barbecue for me. That's technically one bag each which is—"
"That's two bags."
"One per person."
You let him keep both bags because the alternative was standing in the snack aisle for another five minutes.
The soy sauce took longer. You found the section, found approximately ten different brands, and stood there for a moment in silence.
"Red label or yellow?" you said.
"I said I wasn't sure."
"You said you'd seen it."
"I'd seen it, I didn't memorize it."
"Caleb, if we get the wrong one—"
He picked one up, turned it over, put it back. Picked up another. "This one looks right."
He put it in the basket and you picked up a different one, compared the labels side by side, and put his back and kept yours.
He switched them back the moment you turned away.
------
You were outside, bag on Caleb's shoulder, chips already open when your hunter's watch went off.
The sound cut straight through everything. Your hand was in the chip bag one second and at your holster the next, the muscle memory of it faster than conscious thought. The screen had gone red.
Wanderer detected. Class: High energy anomaly. Proximity: 100 meters.
Caleb stepped in close "Behind the market. Let's go."
You were already moving.
---
The alley ran behind a row of shops, narrow and shadowed, the air warping at the far end and that meant the Wanderer had already been there long enough to disturb local reality. You pulled your gun and kept your back to the wall, moving fast. Caleb came in on the other side, gravity already building at his hands, the air around his knuckles bending in a way that meant he was ready.
The Wanderer was enormous, the geometry of it not quite making sense no matter which angle you looked from. It moved fast for something that size, swinging a limb in your direction before you'd fully cleared the corner.
You fired twice. The shots connected and it shrieked, momentum redirected enough that the hit meant for you shattered a section of wall instead.
"Flank!" Caleb called.
You were already going wide. He pulled gravity in from the left, compressing the Wanderer's movement, slowing it just enough for you to get behind it and put three more shots into the joint where two of its limbs connected. It screamed and lurched sideways.
"Keep it off the street," you yelled over the noise.
"Working on it." He dragged it backward with a gravity pull that made the pavement crack under the force of it, steering it further into the alley.
It was not a clean fight. It kept redirecting, slamming into the walls, filling the alley with debris that you had to dodge while maintaining your sight lines.
Eventually the thing started to slow. Eventually it disappeared.
Then you saw it.
On the ground where the Wanderer had dissolved — a Protocore, small, throwing off an iridescent white that you'd never seen from a Wanderer before.
"That's not standard," Caleb said, coming to stand beside you. He crouched down to look at it without touching it. "I've never seen one this color."
"Me neither." You holstered your gun. "I should take it to HQ."
"Agreed." You crouched beside him, reaching for the core at the same time he did, and your hands closed around it simultaneously.
White light erupted.
It collapsed inward, pulling everything —sound, light, air, the alley— into a point of white noise and wind, and then nothing, a few seconds later there was a floor coming up very fast.
You hit the carpet with a thud that knocked the breath out of you.
Caleb landed beside you, one arm slamming down to catch his weight before he pushed himself up.
"Are you hurt," he said, breathing hard.
You did a fast inventory. "No. You?"
"No." He looked up. Looked around.
You were inside a huge apartment. Carpeted floor and warm light from the windows. A long couch. A coffee table with papers on it. A mug. A jacket draped over the back of a chair.
Someone's apartment.
You stood up slowly. Caleb was already at the bookshelf, and you followed, and then you saw the first photo and everything in your chest felt strange.
It was you. You and Caleb, standing somewhere sunny, laughing at something out of frame. You were wearing a jacket you didn't own. His hair was slightly different, grown out and pushed back.
There were more. The two of you at a restaurant, faces close across a small table. A shot of you asleep on a couch, and Caleb sitting at the other end with a book, but whoever had taken the photo had caught him looking at you and not at the page.
Your throat felt tight.
"This is my apartment," Caleb said quietly, from somewhere to your left.
You turned to look at him. He was looking at the leather jacket on the chair. His leather jacket, the one currently in his wardrobe back at the base. A pilot's manual on the shelf, the same one he'd been working through. A mug from the Farspace Fleet. A framed photo of your grandmother that matched the one at home.
"The photos—" you started.
"I know."
He crossed to the coffee table, picked up the newspaper and scanned the top page. He held it out.
The date at the top was two years from now. Exactly two years.
---
You spent the rest of the afternoon going through the apartment with careful attention, very aware you were somewhere you weren't supposed to be. You were trying to understand what the last two years had produced.
Caleb's future self left notes everywhere. Fridge, desk, bathroom mirror. His handwriting but with a different quality to it, more settled. There were more photos than you'd first noticed — tucked into the edges of the mirror in the hallway, stuck to the inside of a cabinet. A birthday card in your handwriting on the desk, standing open. A second toothbrush in the bathroom.
You both looked at that for a moment.
"I'm not going to say anything about any of this," you said finally, standing in the kitchen with your arms crossed.
"Good call," Caleb said, from the doorway.
"I'm —this is a lot of information."
"It is."
"And I'm not drawing any conclusions."
He went quiet.
The sun went down. The apartment went from warm gold to dark while you sat on the floor of the living room eating crackers you'd found in the cabinet, your backs against the couch, the Protocore sitting on the coffee table throwing faint white light across the ceiling.
"We'll figure out how to get back," Caleb said.
"I know."
"Same energy that brought us here should be able to—"
"Caleb, I know. I'm not panicking."
He looked at you sideways. "You're quieter than your normal quiet."
"I'm just thinking."
He nodded slowly. Ate a cracker. Didn't push it, he knew when to let something sit. Almost two decades of knowing each other and he'd learned exactly where the lines were.
You were about to say something else when you heard it.
Voices outside.
Both of you were on your feet before the door handle moved. Caleb stepped toward the entryway on pure instinct and you grabbed his arm with both hands and pulled.
"Don't," you said, low and fast.
"I just want to see—"
"You cannot make contact with yourself. Do you understand what that does to the timeline? Do you understand what happens if you alter something?"
"I wasn't going to —"
"Caleb." You got in front of him, hands on his chest, looking up at him with full seriousness. "We hide. Right now. We have to wait."
He looked at the door. The handle was starting to move.
"Fine," he said before he grabbed the protocore and then your wrist to pull you toward the hallway closet in two long strides, opening it fast and pulling you in after him, easing the door shut.
The closet was full. Coats, bags, a stack of boxes on the floor that immediately became a problem because you had nowhere to step back, which meant you were now pressed against Caleb from your shoulders to your knees.
You could feel every breath he took.
"This is very small," you whispered.
"I know," he said, directly behind your ear.
His arms were on either side of you because there was nowhere else for them. His chin was above your head. You could feel him making adjustments to keep whatever minimal distance physics was willing to offer, and it was working as well as you'd expect. Which was not well.
You were two childhood friends in a closet in an apartment that was apparently his, two years in the future, surrounded by photographic evidence of something neither of you had said out loud yet, and he was doing his very best not to press against you and his very best was losing badly to the laws of spatial reasoning.
The front door opened.
Through the slats of the closet door, the living room light clicked on.
"I told you." Your own voice, but looser, threaded through with laughter that had a very specific quality to it. "I told you we shouldn't have had that last drink."
"Yeah," came the reply. Caleb's voice, except it was rougher and stripped of the easy warmth you knew and replaced with something that made the back of your neck prickle. "You were flirting with the bartender just to watch me lose it."
"Maybe I was." Future you sounded unrepentant about this.
Through the slats you watched two people stumble into the living room and your brain took several seconds to process what your eyes were seeing. She was in a dress, form fitting, gorgeous, currently half unzipped down the back. Future Caleb had shed his jacket somewhere between the door and the living room, his shirt untucked with half the buttons open, chest visible, hair slightly wrecked.
Behind you, Caleb had gone completely rigid. You felt it happen, every muscle in his body locking up at once.
Then future Caleb grabbed future you by the waist and walked her backward into the living room wall.
The impact was loud. What followed was louder, the sound of them kissing, which was not the word for what was happening, kissing implied something with more restraint than this. Future Caleb had his hands in her hair and on her waist and sliding down to bunch the fabric of her dress up her thighs, all at the same time.
You made a sound you hadn't planned on making.
Caleb's hand came over your mouth so fast you didn't even see it coming, his palm pressing firm and warm against your lips, his forearm across your collarbone. His chest was heaving against your back and something else was pressing against the small of your back that you were both absolutely not acknowledging.
You made a muffled sound against his hand anyway.
His arm tightened.
Future Caleb pulled back just far enough to speak "You want to play games tonight?" A pause, heavy with intent. "Let's find out how loud I can make you scream."
He pushed his hand up her skirt.
You'd never made that sound in your life. Or apparently you would. In two years. Against that wall.
"Caleb—wait, wait—the couch—"
That was it. That was enough. Your hand shot out in the dark and found the closet door handle and you grabbed it.
Caleb's hand came off your mouth and closed around your wrist, pulling it back against you, his mouth dropping to your ear.
"Don't you dare," he breathed.
"We have to stop watching this—" you hissed.
"If you open that door they'll see us—"
"Then they see us—"
"And alter the timeline," he said. "Your words. Two minutes ago."
He was right and it was the worst possible moment for him to be right.
"Just—" His voice came out strained "Just don't move."
"Caleb—"
"I'm a guy, and you are literally grinding into me," he snapped softly, though there was no real anger in it. His forehead dropped briefly to the back of your head. "Just..." sigh "give me a second."
Outside the closet Caleb lifted her clean off the floor. Her legs wrapped around his waist as he carried her the few steps to the couch and dropped her onto it.
His hands yanked the straps of her dress down, baring her breasts. He pinched a nipple, and she arched with a sharp cry. "You are so fucking wet already. Been thinking about my cock all day? Want me to stretch that pretty pussy out right here?"
"Yes—fuck, Caleb, touch me," she gasped, hips grinding up.
Your breath hitched. Heat flooded between your legs, sudden and embarrassing. Caleb's cock twitched against your ass and you had to bite your lip to stay quiet.
Future Caleb reached down and shoved his pants off. You couldn't look away. He was big, thick, flushed, veins standing out. Ready.
Panic hit you. "Don't look," you whispered frantically. "That's... me. Turn around or do something—"
"Like hell," he said against your ear, teeth grazing the shell. "You're the one staring. You like seeing him like that? Seeing what I— what he wants to do to you?"
"Caleb, shut up," you whimpered, thighs pressing together.
He didn't fuck her right away. He grabbed her ankles, yanked her to the edge of the couch, and spread her wide. Dropped to his knees.
"Caleb—" she started, but it dissolved into a broken moan as he buried his face between her legs.
The sound of his tongue working her was loud and messy, completely shameless. Her head dropped back against the cushions, fingers twisted tight into the fabric, her whole body shaking every time he dragged his tongue over her clit in greedy strokes. He licked broad stripes up her slit before focusing on her clit again, sucking it into his mouth with a low groan.
"Fuck, you taste so good,”Caleb growled against her pussy, voice muffled but clear enough to carry.
"Just like that baby” she moaned, one hand fisting his hair, the other still twisting in the couch cushion.
He pinched her nipple hard with his free hand, rolling it between his fingers as he sucked harder. Her thighs trembled around his head.
Behind you, Caleb let out a broken groan that made your knees go soft. His arm snapped around your waist, holding you steady, fingers digging into your hip the exact same way his future self was gripping her out there.
“Fuck,” you whispered, head falling back against his shoulder before you could stop yourself. Your pussy was throbbing, aching so bad it almost hurt.
“Listen to that. Listen to how wet you get for me.” Caleb shifted his hips, grinding the thick ridge of his cock against your ass through your jeans, dragging the seam right over your soaked cunt.
On the couch, she was losing it. "I need you inside me. I can’t wait anymore.”
Future Caleb pulled back, mouth shiny, breathing hard. He stroked himself once, twice, then lined up and drove into her in one rough thrust. Her legs wrapped around him as he started fucking her deep and hard, the couch creaking like it might give out any second. His back and ass flexed with every thrust, hips snapping forward. “Gonna come on my cock like a good girl?”
He leaned over her, one hand pinning her thigh higher as he fucked her. “Gonna fill you up. Want you leaking my cum the rest of the night. You love being my dirty little slut, don’t you? Say it.”
“Oh my god,” you choked, voice barely there. Watching yourself get railed like that—by him—was too much. The guy whose arms were currently locked around your waist, the same guy you’d known since you were kids, was pounding into a future version of you like he owned her.
She gasped between moans, nails now digging into his back. “Yes—your slut, Caleb—harder—”
“That’s my girl.” His hips snapped faster “Come on my cock like you did last night."
In the closet, Caleb’s forehead dropped to your shoulder, his cock twitched hard against your ass, hips making tiny, helpless thrusts.
You couldn’t tear your eyes away, every filthy word making the ache between your legs worse.
“Jesus,” Caleb whispered raggedly “We really talk like that?”
You twisted hard, trying to turn around in the cramped space so you wouldn’t have to see it anymore.
“Stop moving,” Caleb gasped, his control fraying fast as your ass rubbed right over the head of his cock.
“I can’t watch this—let me turn—”
Your foot caught on a heavy boot buried in the mess at the bottom of the closet. Balance gone.
“Whoa—” Caleb grabbed for you, but it was too late. Your combined weight slammed into the door.
The cheap magnetic latch popped open with a sad little click.
The squeaking of the couch cut off like someone had yanked the plug on the whole universe.
The silence that followed rang in your ears. You pushed up on your elbows, face so hot you were surprised you hadn’t spontaneously combusted. Caleb was beside you, shirt rucked up, the very obvious, very hard line of his erection pressing against your thigh.
You both slowly turned your heads toward the couch.
A few meters away, future Caleb was frozen mid thrust, hands locked on future you’s hips, his body still buried deep inside her. She had one leg hooked high around his waist, hair a wild mess, chest heaving. Both of them stared at you with identical expressions of what the actual fuck.
They were a sweaty, flushed disaster, very naked and very, very mid fuck.
“What the…” future Caleb started.
Future you blinked slowly. “Is that… us?”
You opened your mouth, brain offering the most useless sentence in history. “We were just looking for soy sauce—”
The white light from the Protocore exploded again. The apartment, the couch, your naked and extremely confused future selves—all of it ripped away in a roar of rushing air.
Thud.
You hit the dirty alley hard enough to knock the wind out of you again.
Caleb groaned beside you, flat on his back, one arm flung over his eyes. His chest rose and fell in sharp pulls. You could still feel the ghost of his hardness against you, the way his fingers had dug into your hip in the closet. Your own body was still buzzing, thighs slick, pulse pounding between your legs like a second heartbeat.
For a moment, neither of you moved.
Then Caleb let out a shaky laugh that sounded half hysterical. “Soy sauce. Really?”
You rolled onto your side, wincing at the scrapes on your elbows. “It was the first thing that came to mind, okay? We just watched ourselves— I mean, they— we were—” You gestured vaguely, face burning all over again. “You know.”
“Yeah,” he said quietly. “I know.”
He sat up slowly and ran a hand through his hair. The front of his shorts was still a bit tented. He didn’t bother trying to hide it. You weren’t exactly in a position to judge, your nipples were tight against your shirt, and you were pretty sure your face was the color of a ripe tomato.
The protocore gave one last weak shimmer and dissolved into harmless blue dust that scattered across the pavement.
Caleb looked at you. “So… two years from now, huh?”
You swallowed. “Apparently we, uh… figured some things out.”
He huffed another laugh, but it was softer this time. Almost wondering. He reached over and brushed a bit of alley dirt off your cheek with his thumb. The touch lingered.
“We should probably go”
You nodded, but neither of you stood up right away. The air between you felt thicker than the summer humidity, charged with everything you’d just seen and felt in that stupid closet.
Caleb’s gaze dropped to your mouth for a second, then flicked back up. “When we get back to the house…”
“Yeah?” you whispered.
He smiled, small and crooked and a little nervous, the same smile he’d given you a thousand times growing up, except this one felt different.
“I’m not waiting two years,” he said.
Your heart did something complicated in your chest.
You grabbed his hand, pulled him up with you, and the two of you started walking out of the alley like nothing had happened.
But everything had happened.
And as your fingers brushed again while you walked, neither of you pulled away.

You were not thinking about it. You were not staring at your ceiling thinking about the N109 Zone or the man who ran it. That was not what was happening. What was happening was that you were resting. Quietly. In your own apartment, which you had every right to be in, doing absolutely nothing that involved Sylus in any way whatsoever.
Work had filled most of your time this week. Back to back missions, three cases that bled into each other, a Thursday briefing that ate the entire day. The Association had kept you moving and moving was good. Moving meant you weren't sitting still long enough to think about things you should not be thinking about.
The problem was tonight there was nothing to move toward.
You'd slowed down. Today's mission had seen to that —a clean operation until it wasn't, until you'd caught the edge of something you'd moved a second too late to avoid and ended up limping through the debrief trying to look unbothered. The Association medic had looked at your leg, told you to rest it, and now you were on your couch. Leg up. Thinking.
You'd worked with Sylus enough times to understand how your arrangement functioned, he had access to things the Association didn't and in exchange you'd give him information he found useful. You showed up. He had what you needed. You left. Repeat.
That part made sense.
What didn't was the rest of it. The part where two weeks of silence felt different now. He was the most wanted name on the Association's list and you were a Deepspace Hunter. The math on that was simple.
So no, you did not miss Sylus.
Your leg throbbed. You shifted your weight and stared at the ceiling again, trying to have an internal conversation about professional conduct and the importance of clear boundaries and then your phone lit up.
You grabbed it so fast you nearly put your elbow through the side table.
Sylus: I heard your mission went sideways. How's the leg?
You: How did you...you know what. Never mind.
Sylus: Mephisto was nearby.
You: You sent your bird to check on me?
Sylus: Mephisto goes where he likes.
You: 🙄🙄
Sylus: He said you were limping.
You: Tell Mephisto to mind his own business.
Sylus: He'll be devastated.
You: Good.
Sylus: I have something that might interest you. Have you ever seen a white Protocore?
You: White Protocores don't exist. Whatever you have is a fake.
Sylus: The seller pulled it from an anomalous Wanderer outside the N109 zone.
You sat with that for a moment.
Sylus: Come see it yourself. You'll want to.
The color alone was impossible by every known framework for protocore classification. Which meant either the seller was running an extremely convincing con, or something had come out of that wanderer that nobody had a category for yet.
Your feet were already on the floor.
You: Don't let anyone touch it. Give me 20 min.
Sylus: No need to rush, kitten. Look out your window.
You crossed the room in four steps and pulled the curtain back an inch.
Black car at the curb. No-parking sign directly above it, ignored completely. Sylus leaned against the driver's side door looking up at exactly the moment you looked down.
He raised his phone.
Sylus: Five minutes. Or I decide the leg is worse than you're letting on and leave.
You let the curtain fall.
"Not a chance," you said, to nobody.
You changed fast —jeans, jacket, hair up, sidearm checked —and ran down the stairs in a time your leg was going to remind you about tomorrow. The night air outside hit you cool and sharp.
Sylus hadn't moved from the car. He looked at you coming through the door, down the steps toward him and said nothing until you were close enough to hear.
"You ran down the stairs?"
"I want to see that Protocore."
"Of course." His mouth curved and there it was, the look that sat underneath the smirk, the one you'd filed away and kept finding again. "That's the only reason."
"It is"
"Then why are you still standing here instead of getting in the car."
You pulled the passenger door open yourself before he could do it, which seemed to amuse him. The interior smelled like expensive leather and him.
He slid in beside you, started the engine— the sound of it vibrating through the seat— and pulled away from the curb without looking at the road for the first two seconds because he was still looking at you.
"My people investigated as much as they could." He shifted gears, smooth and unhurried. "Which is why I need someone who knows what a forgery looks like at that level."
"But you also have people for that"
"I have people for a lot of things." He glanced over. Red eyes catching the streetlight for just a second. "None of them are you."
You looked out the window " Is that a compliment?"
"I didn't say it was."
The N109 Zone came up around you, neon and dark in equal measure, a place that operated on entirely different rules than Linkon City. You'd been here more times than your Association file strictly reflected. You knew the streets. You knew the hierarchy. You knew which doors opened for which names. All thanks to the man sitting in the driver's seat.
You had no idea what a white Protocore was. You had no idea what tonight was going to become but you had a feeling you were about to find out.
His office, you knew this place better than your own.
The reinforced doors. The security overrides, which ones were decoys and which ones actually mattered. The hidden safes, three of them, one behind a painting ugly enough to be forgettable on purpose. You'd learned all of it slowly, standing close enough and quiet enough that he forgot you were paying attention.
The White Protocore sat inside a glass tube at the center of his desk, and you hadn't moved in two minutes.
It looked like the others at first. Same crystalline structure, same geometry. But every other Protocore carried color, blue, gold, pink, red, green and purple. This one just a faint pulse, soft milky light spilling across the dark wood. Strange and uncategorizable.
Sylus wasn't looking at the protocore, he was watching you. His eyes were tracing the curve of your jaw, the focus on your expression. In his world of cutthroat deals and rare power, you were his white protocore.
The back of your neck went warm but you kept your eyes on the protocore.
"Can I touch it?"
A low sound from his chest. Not quite a laugh. "I don't recall ever saying no to you, sweetie."
His fingers worked the glass tube open and lifted the protocore into his palm.
You reached for it.
Your fingers brushed his skin and the protocore sat between your hands for a single second and then —
No warning. Just white light swallowing the desk and the dark walls. Then the wind hit, not from outside but from inside the protocore, like a vacuum pulling in with a force that emptied your lungs before you could inhale. The sound of it was scary, like space tearing apart. The air collapsed into that small white light in your hands, the floor dropped away and you were falling without falling.
The first thing that came back was pressure.
Arms locked across your chest and shoulders, tight enough your ribs couldn't move. Something solid at your back. You tried to breathe. Couldn't. Tried again.
"Sy" Barely a whisper. "Can't— brea—"
His arms dropped instantly.
He was on his feet before you inhaled, one fluid motion, hand going to his gun, eyes sweeping the room. No targets. His hand dropped, but his shoulders stayed coiled, still reading the space.
You sat up. Pulled air in slowly until your chest stopped aching.
"Where are we?"
He didn't answer. Still looking.
You looked too.
Dark wood, heavy draping, expensive things chosen for use as much as looks. It felt like his place at first glance.
In the corner was a record player, vinyl turning silently, needle down, producing nothing. Beside it a bookshelf climbed straight to the ceiling, a ladder running the whole length on a track.
On the low table in front of the couch sat two glasses of wine. One half empty. Whoever had been drinking had stepped away expecting to come right back.
You stood slowly.
Sylus had crossed to the far side of the room. His head was angled down at something on the shelf.
You crossed after him, boots loud on the floor.
"Sylus."
He didn't turn.
You came up beside him, followed his eyeline, and stopped.
A photograph. You in your Hunter uniform with a different insignia of a rank you didn't hold yet, holding a trophy. Your smile in the photo was wide open and unguarded, a version of happy you didn't wear on your face very often.
There was a small engraved plaque at the bottom of the frame.
Hunter of the Year — November 2051.
You picked up a magazine beside it.
Your face on the cover. Same uniform, same trophy, same smile. Hunter of the Year in bold letters across the top. Small print in the corner, neat and impossible.
November 2051.
You set it down carefully.
Behind you, Sylus had already moved to the mahogany desk near the windows. Papers shifted. Folders opened and closed. His hands stayed busy and his face gave nothing.
"Sylus." You kept your voice steady. "Look at me."
He didn't.
You crossed to the desk and placedd your hand flat over the document he was holding.
"Three years," he was staring at nothing in particular, whatever was running behind his eyes not making it to his face.
You looked at the half empty glass. The record player still turning in silence. A coat hanging by the door.
"Sylus."
"I see it."
"That's your coat."
"This is one of my safehouses"
"Since when do you keep pictures of the Association Hunters? Last I checked you called us glorified errand runners."
A slow smirk pulled at the corner of his mouth "I've got a taste for beautiful art, sweetie, and maybe I like having a permanent reminder of my favorite headache."
"I'm not your—"
"Someone's coming." his eyes sharpened, hand closing around your wrist.
"Who—"
"This way." He was already pulling you toward a closet.
He yanked the door open expecting to see his weapons.
There were no rifles or guns, just stacked piles of the same magazine you saw earlier, floor to ceiling, your face on every cover, hundreds of them.
"Do you also collect magazines?" you asked, fighting to keep your voice down as he shoved you into the tiny space and squeezed in after you, pulling the door shut. "This is a lot of me for one closet"
"If you keep talking you're going to get us both caught."
You bit down on a laugh and then it died in your throat completely.
The door clicked open and Sylus stepped into the room.
You gasped, turning on instinct to check whether he had somehow warped himself out there with his Evol, but he hadn't moved an inch.
Future Sylus's hair was a mess, like he'd run his hands over it more than once, and a bit longer than you were used to. His shirt was wrinkled, streaked faintly with mud, stretched tight across shoulders that looked broader than the ones currently pressed beside you in the dark. There was more color in his face too, like time had put some weather on him. He paced the length of the room like a caged animal, fists clenching and releasing at his sides. He stopped mid stride, head turning like he'd caught a sound in the room, inside Sylus's hand shot out, closing around your wrist as one finger came up to his lips, a silent order to stay quiet.
Then the door opened again, and future you walked in.
She looked pissed. Shirt torn at the shoulder, soot and dirt ground into the fabric, but her eyes were lit up with anger.
She was you, there was no doubt about that, but she was different. There was more color to her face too and her body was softer in some places, sturdier in others.
"You had no right, Sylus!" She slammed the door behind her "I can still fight! I had that under control!"
"You almost got killed" Sylus didn't raise his voice. He didn't need to. Whatever was in his tone was cold enough to make the room feel smaller.
"That's a fucking lie and you know it!" She crossed the space between them fast, jabbing a finger into his chest. "I'm not some damsel for you to decide when I fight and when I don't!"
Beside you Sylus dipped his head, lips grazing the shell of your ear. "Different year. Same feisty kitten." His breath felt warm against your neck.
"Shut up, Sylus. Shut up" you hissed, elbowing him in the ribs. He huffed out a quiet laugh like you'd done him a favor.
Outside, the fight kept climbing.
"You think you can pull me off a fight and take me wherever you want?" her voice bounced off the ceiling. "I'm a Hunter, Sylus. I'm not joining Onychinus. Not now, not ever, no matter how many times you bring it up."
"You've made that perfectly clear."
"It's my job, Sy"
"Not anymore, it isn't."
"You don't get to make that call for me!"
He didn't answer with words. He started walking her back instead, one slow step for every one she gave up without notice, until her spine hit the ladder bolted to the bookshelf.
She was out of room. He planted a hand on either side of her head against the wooden rungs, boxing her in.
"Are you sure about that, sweetie?" Not a question so much as a challenge.
"We don't even know ye— get out of my space!"
"Make me."
Their faces were a breath apart now, close enough that the argument had stopped sounding like an argument. Through the door you felt the air on the other side change, something thick and charged, like the silence that comes right before either a fight or something worse. Your face went hot just watching it, the line between the two of them hating each other and wanting each other collapsing.
"I hate you"
"Good," he murmured so close to her lips. "You can hate me all you want, Mrs. Qin. You're still wearing my ring."
He closed the distance, hand curling around the back of her neck, and kissed her like it was the only thing he had left to say.
Beside you Sylus went completely still.
Future you made a sound against his lips that started as surprise and turned into moan, her hands coming up to grip his shirt before she dropped them and grabbed him instead.
You turned to look at Sylus, his eyes dropped to yours and a slow smile moved across his mouth and your stomach went with it.
His shirt hit the floor first, hers followed.
Future Sylus lifted her off the floor and settled her onto a rung of the ladder. She grabbed the rung above her head to steady herself and he stepped back just far enough to look at her, taking his time with it while she sat there catching her breath.
Then he reached for her boots.
He pulled the first one off, fingers working the laces without looking down, eyes on her face the whole time. The second followed. He set his hands on her knees and dragged them up her thighs and she made a small sound before he'd even done anything.
His mouth found her collarbone. Moved down. The thin lace of her bra was still on and he put his lips over it anyway, tongue pressing through the fabric against her nipple, and her head went back against the ladder. He bit down through the fabric, and the sound she made was immediate.
You pressed your hand to your mouth.
He did it again on the other side, slower, and her knuckles went white on the rung above her while her hips moved forward looking for something that wasn't there yet.
He kissed down her sternum. The soft skin below her ribs. His mouth dragged across her stomach and she was already breathing in pieces by the time his hands moved to her pants. He worked them down her legs and off, then dropped to his knees.
You made a small sound against your hand.
He was now on his knees between her thighs, hands finding the backs of them, hooking her legs one at a time over his shoulders. The muscles in his arms and neck shifted with the motion and he settled her weight there easily, like he'd done it before. Because in three years he had. Many times. You could tell by how she exhaled when her legs landed on his shoulders— relief. Her whole body recognizing what was coming.
He looked up at her.
Hands spread across her inner thighs, holding them open, red eyes on her face, waiting.
She looked down at him.
Her chest was moving fast. Her lip caught between her teeth. She held his gaze for one long second and then, quietly, barely enough to hear—
"Please."
His fingers found her thong and pulled it to the side.
One hand went to his hair, pulling him in, the other stayed above her head. Her nipples hard against the wet lace.
Every sound came through clearly. His mouth on her wet pussy. Her breathing. Your face burned. Other things burned. You pressed your thighs together and it didn't help because the sounds didn't stop.
You turned to look at him again.
His right eye burned red in the dark closet. His chest rose and fell in a rhythm that wasn't steady.
"Sy—"
"Don't stop." Future you's voice came through the door, breathless. "Fuck, Sy...just like that."
Your face went hotter and you faced forward again.
Sylus exhaled against your hair. His hand was still on your wrist. Neither of you had moved it.
He made a sound against her and the sounds that followed were louder and wetter.
Your fingers found the front of his jacket and held on.
"Is this affecting you?" he asked, right against your ear.
"Shut up."
Then her voice again, completely gone, nothing held back. "Yes — baby, my clit, suck on it — fuck yes—"
His hand tightened on your wrist. Hard.
"Sylus." Your voice came out dry. Broken in the middle. Not what you'd intended at all.
"I know," he said.
Future you screamed his name. The closet pressed in from all sides.
"We need to leave"
"Yes," he agreed, but neither of you moved.
Her thighs locked around his shoulders and shook. He stayed until the last tremor left her. Then he stood, chest glistening, and his hands dropped to the button of his trousers.
Popped it open. Pushed the fabric down his thighs.
The outline of his cock through the fabric of his underwear made your throat close. The tip already wet, a dark circle spreading through the cotton, and his fingers found the waistband—
A large hand came down over your eyes.
"Hey—" You grabbed his wrist. His fingers didn't move.
"If you want a show," his voice low at your ear, "you only have to ask."
"Move your hand." You twisted your head. His palm stayed exactly where it was.
Dark behind it.
Then the sounds hit again.
Slap.
Slap.
Slap.
Skin against skin. Her voice breaking between each impact, the sounds coming in waves that your brain immediately started filling in visuals for and that was so much worse than if he'd just let you look.
"You're burning up," he said against your ear, not in concern but in pure mockery.
Your thighs pressed together hard. "I swear to god—"
His fingers spread open.
She was still on the ladder. Legs locked around his waist, both of them flushed, sweat catching the light. He had one hand on her hair, holding her close to his face, their mouths almost touching, breathing the same air while his hips rolled forward in deep slow drives that shook her whole body. He was saying something to her, too low to carry, but whatever it was kept fracturing her expression every time he said it.
Then his voice came through clearly.
"Look at me." Steady, even over everything else. "Tell me who you belong to."
Her tongue dragged across his upper lip. "Yours—" Her head dropped back. "Ah— yours, Sy, I'm yours—"
Your underwear felt damp and your clit was pulsing with a persistence you were doing your very best to ignore.
"Do you really think," Sylus whiapered against your temple, "it takes us three whole years to get here?"
"I don't—"
Future Sylus pulled back, his tongue dragged slow up her throat while she panted against his shoulder. "You taste different today."
"Because you're—" she gasped, "—you're driving me insane—"
"That's not it." He pushed forward, one deep thrust that tore a cry out of her "You shouldn't be taking field hits right now." A beat. "Not when you're carrying my child."
The closet went cold.
Your jaw dropped. Hers did too.
Pregnant.
The argument. Him yanking her off the mission. All of it clicked into place at once. She was carrying his baby. In three years, you'd be carrying his kid.
Your knees went out from under you.
Your foot caught on something hard as you stumbled back. A stack of magazines toppled with the movement, and everything blurred, sound, vision, all of it going soft at the edges.
"—watch—"
Crimson light cracked through the dark. Sylus's Evol flared, and every falling magazine froze mid air.
The energy didn't stay contained. It rolled out through the closet door and everything on the other side went dead silent.
The sounds stopped. All of them. What replaced the noise had weight to it.
Sylus's eyes were locked on the door. Jaw tight. Not a muscle moving.
"Pathetic," future Sylus said, clear, not a trace of what he'd been doing thirty seconds earlier, "a top tier Hunter and the leader of Onychinus, hiding like toddlers playing hide and seek."
Your stomach dropped straight through the floor.
"Sylus?" Future you, breathless, confused. "Who are you talking—"
"I know you're in there." He sounded almost bored. "You're both breathing like horny teenagers."
Beside you, Sylus exhaled through his nose and reached out to push the door open. "I could say the same"
He stepped out first, glanced down at his sleeve, and flicked off a piece of lint that probably wasn't there. Then he reached back, hooked an arm around your waist, and pulled you out with him. You stumbled onto the polished floor, face burning hot enough to set the room on fire.
Future Sylus had future you pulled against him, her bra strap slipping off one shoulder, hair a wreck, and she was staring between the two of you with her mouth hanging open.
"Is that—" Her eyes went from you to the Sylus standing next to you and back again. "Are we— are they—"
Sylus looked at his future self. Future Sylus looked right back.
Three seconds of silence passed between them, and somehow it felt like an entire conversation.
"You look good," Sylus said.
"And you are interrupting," future Sylus said, arm tightening around future you.
You stopped watching the two of them and scanned the room instead.
There. The White Protocore, sitting beside the wine bottle, pulsing soft in the low light.
You moved before anyone could stop you, crossed the room, and closed your hand around it.
Sylus was right behind you. His hand landed over yours, the stone was caught between your palms again, warm and humming under your skin. He tossed one last glance over his shoulder at his future self and smirked.
White swallowed everything. The floor vanished, and then thud.
The familiar light of his office in the N109 Zone.
You were flat on your back, staring at the ceiling, just breathing.
The Protocore rolled out of your hand and knocked against the leg of his desk before it dissolved into dust.
Sylus sat up, forearm braced on a raised knee, and looked down at you, smirk already back in place. His gaze dropped to your mouth, your throat, the way your chest was still heaving.
"So," he said, leaning over you with one hand braced on the floor beside your head. "A baby."
You threw an arm over your face. "I will shoot you again."
"I'm just thinking ahead." His fingers found a strand of your hair "Sounds like we've got a lot of work to do in the next three years, Miss hunter."
