tell me lies, tell me sweet little lies

Cass struggled for a good thirty years to overcome the baser animalistic lust for blood that came with his condition. He hadn’t grasped his own state for about ten years. Only after starting to understand, with the help of Seamus and his lot, exactly what he was could he gain control. “I just know what you’re goin’ through,” He insisted. He had done plenty of bad in his time. Not eating people took the least work of any reforming he might consider but he wanted her to know she wasn’t simply damned as he believed for so long.

“Oh yah, what’d ya do then? It’d take a whole helluva lot to disappoint me. I’ve got a record a mile long but I know the secret,” he explained, giving her a smirk. “It’s not about the crime, it’s about the way you pick yourself up afterwards.” He thought a lot of what people assumed to be bad or wrong changed over time anyway. What might be wrong today could be fine tomorrow, so why hold yourself to someone else’s standards.

“But–we don’t kill, unless we have to.”

And that was something new, something she had needed. Just someone to understand, to tell her what had been going on with her body these past ten years and what exactly she should do about it. It had been a lonely existence, she supposed, but no lonelier than her one before being bitten. Drifting, not staying with anyone too long, just surviving on her own. She was used to it. But now she had the prospect of an eternity of it ahead of her. 

“I would have one too, ‘cept I don’t get caught,” she told him simply. “Can lie my way out of anything. Seem to have one of those faces that people believe, and buy into whatever I say if I say it with a smile or a few tears.” It had been a skill she worked out and developed from a pretty young age. “I’ve lied, cheated, stolen... Tricked good people out of their money, for no other reason than that I wanted it myself,” she shrugged. True lows, at some points. Elderly people, good people. Some had deserved it though. And she didn’t regret much of it either. She just knew that to others it was reprehensible. 

❝M’sorry,❞ Too spoke out with a little bit of a raspy whisper, looking to Miriam before looking down, he didn’t like to lie to anyone, but people with Powers were very few and far between these days, seeing another person with a power was like finding a gold bar on the street and wondering if you should pick it up or leave it. Either you talk to the person or don’t in fear something bad will happen and more killing will erupt.

❝M’Rudy Too – Tee-Double-Oh, there was – there was this Storm, caused a whole bunch of problems, yeah? We – there were three of us, we came out of Rudy One, the – him the one you…did f’ings with,❞ But they have been separated for more than two years now, they don’t share the memories of what the other has done, if there was to be some proof of that, One and Too have had one or two more tattoos that slightly vary from each other, ❝I know I shouldn’t have lied, Miriam, but —— didn’t want you t’fink we were freaks,❞

Her expression was nothing short of baffled. What kind of power was that? She supposed being able to be in two places at once would come in handy. Good for alibis, she realised. But it was weird. He and Rudy were so different. Sure, Rudy had been the one she met first ( well, done a little more than meet ), but over the past while she had decided that she liked Toby, or Rudy Too, a lot more. Not the usual kind of person she was friends with, but then again, she never kept friends for very long. Maybe that was the problem. 

When he apologised for lying, she groaned. God, why could he make her feel guilty about shit that no one else could? 

“It’s fine,” she told him, an annoyed look on her face, but not because of what he had done. Because of how she felt. “I don’t think you’re a freak. You’re probably only the sixth freakiest person I’ve met today,” she smirked. “I’ve-, I’ve got one too. People believe my lies. Like, really believe them. I could tell them they’ve grown a new head and they’d believe me,” she explained. “But it seems for every lie I make someone believe, there’s a truth someone will never believe too.”

Miriam’s face screwed up, looking a little confused. “So, you’re the devil now?” she asked, letting out a small noise of amusement. “Someone has a high opinion of themselves, don’t they, Billy?” she said, feeling unsettled by his unusual behaviour, but not necessarily threatened, if that was his intention. “So I’ll just smile away.” 

Cass never liked bullies and he didn’t think twice about stopping to help someone getting pushed around. He doesn’t hesitate before whopping the lead bastard in the back of the head with a road sign that leaned up against the building. The brute let out a groan and fell to his knees without going down. He flipped the sign to the pointy side and stabbed it clear through the man’s hand. A couple of the others cleared out fast when they saw their leader impaled. The one holding the girl didn’t, however. “You better think twice before fuckin’ with me man,” he warned.
