We Have Plenty

Thank you everyone for your support!! Our project is successfully funded and it would not have happened without your tremendous help! We will keep working hard till June to finish the film beautifully. Aside from that, more updates and tutorials to come! Stay tuned! <3

Our kickstarter has come to the final 4 days. We are very very grateful for all the support we’ve got so far. We are at the mid-point of our production and we can’t wait to see it finished! It's a story about growing up and facing extreme environmental changes, while highlighting the importance of animal diversity to human. Please support our film if you believe in it too! It’s also your last chance to get some goodies ;)

This is our team. Inter-school collaborations are pretty rare. Some of us are even from the other side of the world. But we pull it off, we learn to break barriers, we learn from different school’s teachings, we learn from each other, and most importantly, we learn to trust each other and just do our very best. 

Pizza person is Cash our associate producer. Flowery dress person is Sarah, glasses person is Angela. They are both the directors. Typewriter person is Thea, our screenwriter. And we have more teammates who are not in this picture, teammates whom we are very grateful to have. This, is our team. We Have Plenty.

Breakdown / Accent / Arc

To thank for the support for our film so far, we are posting some notes on animating originally made for our animation assistants. Breakdown is a very crucial technique of animating. It is a guideline of how every action should be acted out. It involves a thinking process of “hmm, I want my character to move in this way particularly, because of the context/situation/emotion/thought... etc” 

The storyboard of We Have Plenty has gone through weeks of exploration, changes, and finalization. We want to make sure the story, which was previously written in script, is delivered visually and creatively. The boards are then put together with sound, with correct timing and pacing to produce an animatic. The final animatic becomes an important basis for the production stage.

Animators are actors with a pen. In order to create characters who feel, we made concept art to help us decide how we want our characters express emotions. Hmm... what has the boy just experienced? Why is he sad? Find out on our Kickstarter, and don’t forget to support us! :D 

The official We Have Plenty Kickstarter is now LIVE! 

A young farmer boy living in a small village has his quiet existence interrupted by a locust attack.

A combination of careful research and spirited storytelling have given birth to We Have Plenty. This animation highlights the importance of animal diversity to humans, from tiny insects to larger mammals as well as the ones in between. It is set in South Asia and draws inspiration from Yunnan Province and other places such as Vietnam and India. This short shows that even in times of crisis, the human spirit is inextinguishable. Bringing across the message of animal conservation in an accessible and innovative way to new audiences, we catch glimpses into this strange world as he goes about his daily life in a place that has faced local extinction.

This film is a collaboration between students at Rhode Island School of Design and the Savannah College of Art and Design. We are grateful for our friends’ help in making it to the production stage. We truly and wholeheartedly believe our film can spread the message of animal conservation through the experience of a little boy - our protagonist and a representation of the next generation of people.
