“There are still parties and whatnot.  I just don’t get invited to a lot of them.  I’m more of a homebody even though I work at the store and see people on a regular basis.  But because of where I work,”  Hwanghon looks over at her friend, shrugging.  “You’re one of the few people who isn’t freaked out by it and actually asks me to do things.”

“We can carve pumpkins if you want.  Or even dress up and go see a scary movie.  They’re playing the entire Nightmare on Elm Street series at the little mom and pop theater underneath the convenience store on the edge of town.  I know that area looks a little weird, but they’re really nice.  It feels like you’re watching a movie at home as opposed to a big commercial theater.”

-` “i like spooky things,” she says with a grin, leaning over to gently bump her shoulder against her friend’s in a lighthearted manner. “that’s why halloween is my favorite holiday besides christmas, and why i really like your shop! there’s a lot of cool things there and the candles always smell really nice. it’s like... halloween all year round.”

“oh! nightmare on elm street!” sophia’s eyes light up at the mention of going to see a scary movie. “we should definitely go! we can dress up in cute and sexy costumes and claim the city as ours!” she lets out a laugh. “or at least, we can claim the movie theater.”

     "Uhm …” She was fairly proud of herself for not panicking right off the bat even if all her instincts were screaming at her to do just that. “Is your phone charged? I figured I’d charge mine when we got there and it died a while ago.” All they had to do was call someone to come get them, right? That would be the temporary solution until after their MUA job and then they could deal with the car after, right? It’s not like they’d really be stuck on the side of the road in between unfamiliar cities on the way to a job. “We could just call a … a tow truck? That’s who you call when your car breaks down, right?” 

to no one’s surprise, capturing an angry wasp in a takeaway bowl doesn’t make it any less irritated. if anything, the insect seems even more annoyed to have been contained in a plastic prison, but anger management is an issue for another day. peering down at the wasp through the plastic cover, kyungsoo turns to show it to his companion and shrugs, lips pursed. “i dunno,” comes his honest answer. “i’ll probably let it go later, where there aren’t people around.” with the would-be assailant contained, kyungsoo glances at their makeshift picnic of convenience store kimbap and yogurt milk, then offers a sheepish grin. “at least it wasn’t a hive of bees..? or an army of ants?”

-` he’s talking about... something. truly, sophia has no idea what he’s saying. not because she wouldn’t understand the context of his words, but because she can’t pry her eyes away from the lone piece of lint that’s somehow drifted onto his shoulder. it sticks out against the dark coloring of the shirt he’s wearing, and it bothers her (needlessly, most likely). the thought of reaching forward to pluck it off his shirt for him crossed her mind, but by now, she knows better. regardless, his sentences sound a lot like muffled words that go right in one ear and out of the other, and eventually, she cuts him off, raising a hand to point at the object of her attention. “there’s, um... on your shoulder.”

-` “is there any concept you haven’t done yet that you really want to do?” there’s very little that she actually knows about korea’s industry of idols; her knowledge doesn’t extend very far beyond what goes into styling a celebrity and, of course, makeup artistry is included. naturally, there’s a lot of things she’s curious about, and she can’t help herself from asking questions. “it always seems like it’d be fun to have different concepts and wear different clothes each time you promote...” she trails off for a moment. “i’d want to do something fierce! like, something that would shock everyone. like beyonce, but even more powerful.”

-` "what are you going to be for halloween?” the days nearing one of the best holidays of the entire year (at least, in her opinion) are lessening and not soon enough, it’ll finally be the official day of all things spooky. “i mean, if you’re going to be anything. halloween is really popular in the states. i guess it’s not as popular here, but i still want to dress up and do something fun, like, i don’t know - carve a pumpkin with someone, or something.”

it’s remarkable how persistent summer is. even several weeks into autumn, vestiges of the previous season linger in the city like liberally applied perfume, and it’s the very reason why they’re both dodging a particularly ornery wasp. he had tried swatting at it with a rolled up magazine, but that only seemed to make the insect angrier. (could anyone blame it though?) he’s scraping the bottom of the proverbial barrel now for ideas, trying to keep both himself and the girl behind him calm, but it’s about just as difficult as getting rid of a wasp in a non-lethal manner. fortunately, inspiration finally chooses to stop faffing about and bids him to retrieve a takeaway bowl he’d been saving in his backpack. and in the very first try, he captures the furious insect in the plastic cage, sighing in relief now that they’re safe. “finally.. i thought it was gonna come at us with a bat if we waited any longer.”

-` “it’s always cold in canada, right?” sophia glances at her friend with genuine curiosity, taking a sip of the sweetened tea in her grasp. “i’ve never been there, but i always picture, like... igloos. obviously, you didn’t live in an igloo, but-” cutting herself off before she heads down a path of needless rambling, a pause is taken to redirect her thoughts. “i’ve only ever lived in florida before coming here, so i’m still not used to snow and stuff. feels like i’ll die every time winter comes around.”

-` “wait, don’t kill it!” she’s roughly the same height as the friend she’s currently decided to use as a barricade between a hovering wasp and herself (save for a literal centimeter that puts him just above her), and regardless of how hilarious it might seem, she still chooses to duck behind him and off the dangerous insect’s radar. “just-” and she’s cut off with a scream as the wasp moves closer, darting out from behind him to keep enough distance that she personally deems as safe. “it’s chasing us on purpose!” exasperated, her voice falls a touch breathless. “do something!”

-` “was it hard?” leaning over to brush her fingers against the strings of the guitar, she almost immediately retracts her hand at the noise that follows her motion. “learning to play, i mean,” she folds her hands in her lap instead, glancing between the instrument and its owner. “i always heard that your fingers start to hurt when you’ve played for a long time.”
