It’s been a month since the mid-February diagnosis: cirrhosis. Looking back, the signs were there. Her drinking was spiraling, and I’m haunted by the feeling that I should have seen it coming—that I should have stopped it before it got this bad. It’s hard not to carry that blame.

Now, our entire world is different. The transplant list, the low-sodium meals, the mountain of pills, the endless drive to doctors... it’s constant. When people ask how I am, I give them the "I’m fine" script, but it’s a lie. I’m struggling. The pressure is immense, and trying to balance my life with being her caregiver is a weight I’m not sure I know how to carry. God, please grant me the strength. I love her so much, but this worry is consuming me.

Nothing compares to the feeling of pride a parent has when we see our son grow up so wonderfully into a young man. Thank you for that feeling, mijo. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to call ourselves proud parents. Happy Birthday, Patrick! It is hard to believe the years have gone by so quickly, and today is your birthday. What a blessing you are to both your mom and I. I pray that God continues to bless your journey and the life he has created for you to follow. Stay true to who you are, never forget where you came from and where you are going with God’s direction.

Talk to God often and remember to listen for direction. Care with your heart, it will keep you humble and remember to show compassion for your fellow man. Give all that you can to those that need your help and grateful for all your blessings. Above it all enjoy your birthday to the fullest and know you are loved very much for the little boy you were, the wonderful grown son you are now and the exceptional man you will become. <3 you mijo!

Had taken today off from work cuz my son mentioned he wanted to take my grandaughter to the zoo. Then he tells me on Monday he didn't get the day off so the zoo plans were off. Then I find out TODAY he and his wife took my baby girl to the zoo. So fucking hurt. I would've loved to have been there but I guess I was important enough. Guess I don't matter.
