Work in progress study for a continuation of my "Deep Meditations" series: "We are all connected" Deep Meditations is a large-scale video and sound installation, a multi-channel one hour abstract film, a monument that celebrates life, nature, the universe and our subjective experience of it. The work invites us on a spiritual journey through slow, meditative, continuously evolving images and sounds, told through the imagination of a deep artificial neural network. We are invited to recognize and appreciate the role we play as humans as part of a complex ecosystem that is heavily dependent on the balanced co-existence of its many components. Why is the creative act so at the core of being human? And how does something come from nothing? This film is born from a collective investigation into the transformative magic - the special alchemy of senses, creativity, and action - that is inspiration. According to the English dictionary, inspiration is "a mental stimulation to do and feel something" and this film echoes that emotions are a powerful catalyst for creating new work. We can feel angry, joyful, jealous, sad, nervous, and should pay more attention to these emotions. We can harness them as tools for creativity. The film was developed as an"exquisite corpse". Through the involvement of a group of pretty inspiring individuals, we hope this film is a testament to a creativity that transcends any particular fad or style. It takes place in 2019, the 30th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin wall, and strives to present and address multiple approaches to historical meanings, differences, and analogies between the two countries through art.' The spirit of Halloween inspired The Mill NY Design team's second iteration of the "Drawing Under the Influence" series. This month, Senior VFX Supervisor Jeffrey Dates and Creative Director Tim Haldeen joined forces to create a mashup of Mexican día de los muertos style and ghoulish monsters that resulted in an intricate display on the fourth floor chalk board. A time-lapse reveals the 2+ hours it took to complete the mural and also offers some insight into what didn't make the cut for the final piece. "It was an interesting collaborated effort, as neither of us really had planned a layout or figured out what we were really going to do - we just attacked the chalkboard wildly and eventually stepped back to see what had happened," said Dates. "A few beers, a few shots, and a few more beers later the piece started to take shape. Collaborating is my preferred method of creative, so this was a fun project, especially doing it with Tim. However, I soon realized chalk and ladders are not my preferred medium."

Lexigraphs I is the first visualization from the Data Portraits series. Micro-blog authors use mobile text messaging or web interfaces to post short answers to the question What are you doing?, creating a stream-of-consciousness account of their daily encounters, musings, plans and actions. Using salient words from an individual’s postings, we visualize the topical and temporal patterns to create a portrait of the author.
