By the time the world outside his room is as silent and empty as the boy inside of it, it’s past midnight. Exhaustion hounds him, but he knows by now that it’s not the kind sleep can remedy anyways, so he cracks open one of the cans of Ghost Energy he picked up on his way home, and falls back into his well-worn gaming chair. DOOMED is waiting for him when he wakes his computer … He glances back at his closed door one more time before pulling his headphones on, then enters the game.

And in the dark, for an instant, the outline of another body curling around hers is visible.
