When the conductor has to cue literally everything because nobody learned their parts
Chic-Fil-A your food is good but that's where your glory ends. Your so called "Charity" is absolutely disgusting. God would not his children funding hate groups or discriminating any of their brothers and sisters. Absolutely disgraceful Chic-Fil-A! What about your mission statement which reads "to glorify God by being a faithful steward of all that is entrusted to us and to have a positive influence on all who come into contact with Chick-fil-A."? I don't see any exceptions there. So is funding anti LBGT organizations going to have a "positive influence on ALL who come into contact with Chic-Fil-A"? And how is offering ZERO protection or benefits to LGBT employees providing your "positive influence" you strive for? Sounds like some serious judgement is going on here which is breaking one of the 2 great commandments listed in Matthew 22. More specially Matthew 22:39 which reads "And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself." Not giving employees protection is not loving thy neighbor. How would you like it if someone would not protect you because of who you are? Leave the judging to God it is his job after all. Matthew 7:1-2 which is the sermon on the mount reads: "1 Judge not, that ye be not judged. 2 For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again". How hard is for you to understand? After all you are a fast food chain what are you doing in this heated topic anyway? Just go back to contributing to America's obesity since it is the only thing you seem to know how to do correct.

Iām always looking!
Over the past months Iāve been practicing for the cultural celebration of the Tucson temple. There have been tied where I was rather dead and time where it was being drug through the mud so much everyone thought death by boredom was about to happen. The week before the actual celebration my stake and a nearby stake held a āsuper Saturdayā where we practiced at the stake center (just so happened to be mine yay) all day long. We thought it was never going to end. Sign in was at 8 and we didnāt leave til 7 that night. For the afternoon we walked to the nearby park to practice it on a field like itāll be for the actual performance. Boy that was horribly hot! That day was around 100 and very humid. The stake adults had water coolers full of ice water and Gatorade for us to drink. The next week comes around and the whole temple district gets to practice at Kino stadium from 4 to 9. That was absolutely horrible but again there was water and Gatorade to keep us hydrated and misters to try and keep us cool. Saturday rolls in and we have to he there at noon to practice. Boy we all thought we were gonna die right then and there it was so hot! Through the majority of this I saw young adults who were enjoying it, some weāre just wanting to go home, and others just flat out didnāt care at all. Well the celebration starts at 7:00 with Dieter F. Uchtdorf walking to the pitchers mound to give a talk. Well where my stake was sitting on the field we were right by the barricades guiding the way to the podium. I got to shake his hand and see him literally less than a foot away from me!!!!! All of this hard work was finially starting to pay off with increasingly amounts of joy and the spirit in me. One of the best things was when the opening prayer was said (in Spanish BTW) the entire stadium was quiet. All you heard was the buzzing lights. Later we begin performing and my stake gets on the 3rd Base line and I could see the joy on the spectatorās faces. I think that alone make it completely worth it for me. The final act is performed and we shout āI WILLā and the streamers shoot up into sky. Next day comes and my aunt makes a suprise visit so all of my momās family is in town crammed into one pue watching the dedication. Once we started singing the spirit of God (one of my favorite Hymns) I began to choke up because what everyone had been wanting for so long has finally been accomplished. Tucson has a temple! Tuesday comesā and my ward planned the first open slot for youth baptisms for the dead. My ward was the first ward to use the baptistry. The amount of joy I felt that night was tremendous. There are some drawbacks to this celebration that there is nothing I can do about however. The biggest one was nobody told me how or when the auditions were for the youth Chior (one that recorded music for the celebration) which I would have LOVED to be in. Other than that this was one of the greatest events Iāve taken part of!
When youāre in the dominant cultural position; when you donāt get killed or disowned, denied marriage, adoption, and fired for being who you are; when youāre represented in every form of media; governments and laws support you, often in ways you donāt even stop to contemplate; every day is about you and people like you; canāt you understand how things like this feels like it mocks the courage and struggle that others go through to be accepted, to be protected, to be treated fairly, and to be loved?
So do you remember the guy in yesterdayās General Conference session (April 2017) who shared the ultimate āFlirt to Convertā story? The guy who was surprised the girl told him āNoā because he thought he was a good catch? His name is Elder Costa. Last year he came to my stake. Iāve shared that story before, but would like to do so again in greater detail since many of you now know who he is.
When a Seventy comes to stake conference there are some extra meetings. Thereās one on Saturday thatās like the kick-off mtg. Itās just the Seventy, the stake presidency, the stake clerk and me, the stake executive secretary. He had us sit in a circle by order of our rank. I thought Elder Costa would sit at the desk and weād be in a semi-circle in front of it, but he had the stake president sit at his own desk. In front of the desk, to the stake presidentās right was his first counselor, then the second counselor and the stake clerk. Everyone outranks me, so Iām last among our group, which means I was seated next to Elder Costa, who was in the first chair to the left of the stake president. He asked if everyone was married, and of course, Iām the only single person out of the six of us in the room. š I was dreading this moment because so many times when someone higher up finds out Iām single I get a lecture about it being my priesthood duty and I need to be married in order to be exalted and itās my responsibility and there are sisters who cry themselves to sleep at night. Elder Costa does none of that.Ā Iām certain that at most of these meetings everyone in the room is married, so this was unusual. He had brought a message for the married men, and he proceeded to give it, but as I was sitting next to him, he kept patting my leg, my knee, my arm, like he was letting me know itās alright. Itās sort of like by his actions he was conveying one message to me, even as he was speaking a different message to the rest of the room.Ā
Afterwards I was in the clerkās office following up on some things. From where Iām sitting, I am hearing Elder Costa & the stake president speaking (everyone else has already left the stake offices) and then I heard a door close and a voice in my ear said, āYou have 15 seconds. Go talk to him.ā This was odd as I thought theyād both just walked out of the stake offices. I turn around in my chair and there is Elder Costa standing framed by the office door. I walk over and thank him for how gently he treated me in the earlier meeting, and said the reason Iām not married is because Iām gay. He reacted so quickly I didnāt have a chance to say anything further. He threw his arms around me and pulled me in as he said, āDear brother, the Church has much to offer you. And you have much to contribute to the church.ā He squeezed me and then let go of the hug, and just as he took a step back, I heard the door open, it was the stake president. Heād gone to the restroom (thereās one in the stake offices) and out the door they went.
After the Priesthood Leadership Mtg, he held a mtg w/the stake presidency, high council and bishops. Ā As they were about to begin, Elder Costa sent one of them to fetch me. He hadnāt been specific that he wanted me and the clerk to be at that discussion, but he was looking for me, and when he recognized I wasnāt at the table and sent for me. That night in the adult session, he made the point that same-gender attraction isnāt a sin, and members who speak otherwise are incorrect and unkind. It wasnāt his main point, but he included it in his presentation.Ā
On Sunday morning, I was already in the stake offices when Elder Costa arrived with the stake president. He asked what I was working on and told the stake president he was lucky to have me, that I keep things running smoothly.Ā During the Sunday session of stake conference, he spoke about 3 sentences of how heās spent time with the stake president and heās a good man and the same is true of his counselors. And to my great surprise, he followed that up by exclaiming with a big smile, āand they have the GREATEST secretary!ā šĀ My phone immediately blew up with people writing to say theyāve never heard a secretary recognized like that, and people all around reaching over to pat me on the back.
At the conclusion of the Sunday session, we had a wrap up meeting. Once again we sat in order of seniority of our positions, which meant I was next to Elder Costa. He turned to me and asked where were my assistants? I said that the stake clerk has assistant clerks, that there arenāt assistant secretaries. He said thatās funny, seemed I did the work of 3 people. At the meetingās conclusion, we knelt and he prayed. After the prayer he sprung up, and as I was standing he put his hands on my arms and pulled me towards him. He wrapped me into a tight hug, chest on chest, his cheek against mine, and says āI love youā three times in my ear. šĀ I have tears in my eyes, itās as if Jesus spoke those simple words to me, into my heart.
He held that hug for a little bit, then he went to shake the otherās hands. The stake clerk whoād been sitting next to me, thought we were all getting hugs, so he put his arms out for a hug as Elder Costa put forth his hand for a handshake. There was an awkward moment, and we laughed at that, so he gave them one-armed side hugs while saying it was good to meet them. ššš Theyāre all looking at me, like why did he get such an embrace, but they donāt say anything because they can tell something just transpired because I was wiping aside tears. In those small and simple ways, Elder Costa ministered to me. I didnāt even know I needed to be ministered to, but it really was good for my soul. Normally the mention of homosexuality in church is accompanied with a list of restrictions. Instead, he reacted with love and kindness. I believe most LGBT Mormons know the Churchās positions in these matters and what would most benefit them are messages of hope and love. Itās unusual for us to feel accepted and wanted. I have a great deal of respect and love for Elder Costa and smiled broadly at seeing him speak in General Conference.
