Take Back the Night

I feel like the Zone is shrinking and everyone is disappearing. You all didn’t get abducted and replaced by robots did you? Because while that would be insanely awesome, I kind of miss seeing people around. 

People are still around. They’ve just graduated and are starting to move on. What’re you doing these days?

Really? I mean…still?  Right, because you’re so famous for playing safe. I guess it would give your leather jacket a little more umph, 

I’m afraid it’s a permanent condition. I’m very famous for playing it safe. I’m a whole eighteen years old and I haven’t died yet. A bike would definitely help my whole vibe. 

A motorcycle? Really? Aren’t those super dangerous? I mean…cool, they’re super cool. 

Hmm...you’re kind of cute. They aren’t dangerous if you play it safe. And yeah, they’re hella cool. 

And I don’t know why. Normally I wouldn’t be concerned or even complain about this but its starting to affect my work. Maybe I should take a vacation or stop running everywhere. 

I didn’t even know you had a job. What do you do?

I don’t know, you’ve made it this far without having to have a substantial amount of time apart. 

I guess that’s true, but I’m sure once we graduate we’ll want to do different things and you know, it’s inevitable. 

Jeez, how much did you make? Are we talking car money?

A junker car? Yeah, maybe. But why get a car when I could get a motorcycle?

Cool. Uh…There’s always games, and movies, or you could just get a ton of junk food and go into a sugar coma. That’s always fun. 

Yeah, I guess. Those are ideas. I kind of feel like I want to spend it all on something big though.

Yeah, that’s not really…I don’t know. I mean I’ve met some people, but it’s not the same. I just miss…stuff. But yeah, clean is good. Uh, how are things with you? 

Right, right. I don’t know. Things have been fine I guess. I’ve saved up a bunch of money from my summer job, so figuring out a way to blow it all during the school year might be fun. 

I wouldn’t consider it polite. Just annoying.

I guess this summer has probably been weird for you, not having Ryder around to hang out with and all.

Yeah...it’s been kind of strange. But, I don’t know, it’s something I should probably get used to right? We can’t spend all of our time together. 

Then I am not sure why you continue have conversations with me then. It’s extremely unnecessary.

I just kind of hang out? There’s some activities and stuff, but I haven’t really done anything. I’ve been tossing a baseball a lot, except when my roommate is here because he says it’s distracting from his homework. Yeah, it wasn’t pretty. But at least it’s clean? 

Interesting. Aren’t you supposed to be making friends and stuff? Clean is good I guess.
