âYou think little old ladies would be innocent, and then they have thoughts like those. On a side note, never read my mind whilst youâre around me working out. As a friend, just donât do it.â Except heâs already thinking about it. Whoops.
âWell, now Iâm a little curious.â Stephen chuckled, placing his hands       on his waist. âBut, since Iâm a guy that respect other peopleâs       boundaries, I wonât. That doesnât mean I wonât accidentally read your       mind from time to time. I still need to get full control of that part of my       powers. It just kinda happens sometimes.â
Oh shit. I just got back home and planning on doing drafts, but I have to be up in 8 hours to go running. So I guess I wonât be able to do drafts tonight. Sorry guys. Tomorrow though!

The question lingered in the air for a long and almost awkward silence as Dylan seemed to consider his own reply. In all honesty, it was due to the thrill of the chase that he wanted to let the other go. When one spent years trapped inside a small room and rarely able to see the sun and the moon â any opportunity to come to the exterior was a blessing. Only when he was called to hunt down those equal to him was when he was allowed out. Maybe he did wanted to make it last cause the world was such a beautiful place. It showed him all the options he no longer had. The freedom he did not possess. Then there was the fact that Stephen challenged him. There wasnât many mutants that could outrun him or actually injure him considering how easily he could teleport away from the line of fire. âI canât, Stephen. I have my orders. The moment my superiors decide to consider me obsolete, I am no longer of use for them. It had happened in the past. Telepaths, teleporterâs, elementals. The list goes on and on. The moment they fail and are outsmarted by someone else â itâs when they become obsolete and they are removed from the equation. Iâm sorry but dying isnât a part of my plans any time soon.â The blond sighed and walked towards one of the broken windows, casting a glance down to the street only to see dark vans parking in front. They were now on borrowed time. âAs long as you keep running, I keep having my fun and my freedom. Itâs a win-win situation actually. You have been injured so they know I managed to hit you. Iâm injured so they know you put up a fight. Considering they sent one of their best soldiers after you, the degree of importance is high. I can afford to let you escape since there arenât others that can do this. Not as good as I can. So â it would be wise for you to start running. You know better than anyone that we will meet again, Mr. Jameson. Iâll definitely make sure of that.â
Stephen was starting to get frustrated at this point. He wasnât sure what was more irritating, being hunted down or being toyed around with. Knowing that he wasnât truly free would be a nightmare to live. At least he wouldnât suffer alone. Dylan himself is being hunted down, but Dylanâs predator was much closer to him. At any moment they suddenly see no use for him, heâll die. Stephen wasnât sure how or why, but at this point it seemed that was the only way to get rid of the guy. Now that he thought about it, maybe Dylan does have more control of the situation than he was trying to lead him to believe. If Stephen was already caught, then there was going to be no point in having the hunter active. Dylan would end up back wherever they contain a mutant of his caliber and as for Stephen, well⌠Whatever happens, happens. That was the theory, at least in Stephenâs mind.
âYou know⌠Iâm actually really sick of you.â Stephen spat out, sending a sharp glare towards the blond. âIâd rather not live my life running away from a crazed monster, let alone talk to him, but now that weâre here and talking⌠What does happen if I get caught?â He could imagine very unpleasant things. If whatever happened to Dylan was bad enough that it caused him this level of insanity, Stephen feared the worst and likely with good reason. âHuh? What do they do to you? Inject you with random chemicals you donât know about? Hook you up to machines? Electroshock therapy?â It was almost like describing a bad science fiction movie, but at this point Stephen wasnât sure if they were even fiction anymore.

âJust even remembering it is making me sick to my stomach. If I pass       out. You know why.â

There it was. That adrenaline rushing through his body resembling the sweetest and most addictive of drugs. Dylan couldnât help but to smile â not even caring about Stephenâs opinion about him. Maybe he was insane! Who wouldnât be? Capture at a young age and turned into a guinea pig for scientists to explore his powers and learn what made people like them tick. For days, weeks, months and years he had suffered in silence, not once screaming in pain or crying in anguish, not wanting to give his captors the satisfaction of seeing him break. But the physical pain had been nothing compared to the mental one. The isolation. A small cell with no windows and tall white walls stained with portions of humidity closer to the ground. The smell was unbearable and so were the screams of everyone else captured on nearby cells. The room had denied him his powers. He couldnât teleport away from there, no matter how many times he had tried. Between the screams of anguish and the darkness that fell upon him day after day, Dylan slowly became a puppet on his captors hands. The moment Stephen moved to invest against him yet again, Dylan knew what was going to happen. One surprise attack was good but it wouldnât work a second time. He had been trained for that. He had fought countless other mutants at the labs in order to perfect his powers. The winners would move to the next stage of their training. The losers would be discarded and eliminated since the higher-ups had no use for them. Teleporting away mere fractions of a second before Stephen invested, Dylan appeared in the midst of a yellow flash at a safe distance from his target, only to see the brunet run away for the third time that day. People never learned. There was three types of mutants that one could not escape no matter how hard they tried. The speedsters, the trackers⌠and him. Stephen jumped through the air and Dylanâs eyes widened in surprise, teleporting back to the edge of the rooftop only to see Stephan crashing on the front building, still trying to increase the distance between them. âYou are truly one of a kind, arenât you?â Dylanâs feet stomped the concrete floor as he teleported into the same abandoned room where Stephen was, his right hand squeezing his flank in order to endure the aching pain of his broken ribs. Teleporting back and forth with broken ribs was getting more and more painful each time he did it. Whatever he would chose to do, he would have to do it fast. âI was once like you, Stephen.â The blond leaned against a pillar, his green eyes glancing to the mutant on the floor. They were both injured. They were both tired. It would be easy for him to put one last effort to take Stephen down and capture him but Dylan knew that the moment he would do that â there wouldnât be anyone else that would make him feel so alive. âBy now they are already surrounding this building and coming for you with taser weapons. Our priority is capture you alive.â Fingers clenched around his ribs again and Dylan let out a weak growl of pain. âYour best choice is go underground. Keep away from deserted streets and mix with the crowd at least until you get an opening to move to a secure location. That way they wonât find you as easily as I did.â
Stephen looked up at Dylan with nothing but a look of frustration and desperation in his face, something thatâs made an appearance throughout this day. Thinking about his options, it was beginning to sound more and more appealing to just simply get caught, to just stop the chase and see what it was like to be captured. From what heâs been told, being held hostage for whatever mysterious company wanted them wasnât pleasant. With how the rogue mutants were being kidnapped and even murdered, it was easy to believe that a life of being a guinea pig wasnât all that fun. Yet, running seemed just as exhausting now, under the heavy pressure of the pursuit. A game being played constantly and draining every ounce of mental capacity that Stephen had in him.
âWeâre nothing alike.â Stephen spat out, repulsed by the thought that him and Dylan were even close to the same person. Just breathing the same air sickened him a little. Hunting down other people, other mutants, it was just as bad as cannibalism to Stephen. Heâd fight his own kind in order to survive, but to kill them and hunt them like this was truly something horrific. Stephen would kill himself first because he could even have the chance to turn out like the blond in front of him. Powerful, but a monster. It wasnât a life worth living.
As the other began to explain to him how to get away from the scene, there was a small hint of confusion in Stephen. He wanted to believe that Dylan was doing this because there was a small bit of humanity still left in him, even after all heâs done and all that heâs been through. But he was too smart for that. If there was any motive behind this, it was because Dylan wanted to draw this chase out. The man said it himself. He got a sick pleasure from chasing him. âWhy canât you just leave me alone?â Stephen asked, slowly getting up from the floor with a grunt of pain. Heâd be surprised if every bone in his body hasnât been broken and fractured by this point. âYouâre powerful enough. You can just leave whoeverâs making you do this and live your own life.â

The blonde furrowed her brow, she certainly wasnât phased. Itâs not like sheâd never seen a six pack before. âAm I supposed to be impressed?â She said in a harsh tone. âHoney. I could get with any talking torso at this university who doesnât have to slum it in Gamma Theta whatever. I shouldnât even be seen with you.â
âItâs actually Alpha Kappa Phi.â Stephen pursed his lips, letting go of       his shirt and allowing it to cover his abs. âBut geez. You Kappas really       are ruthless.â Thankfully, he was only dared to try and woo Chanel.       It would have been a nightmare to actually be emotionally attached       to someone like Chanel. âWhy havenât you walked away, anyways?â
