still annoyed and thinking about 52 but john henry and nat’s storyline is so frustrating because, on the surface, it really isn’t out of character for john henry—someone who carries the weight of his family’s safety on his shoulders, who takes sole responsibility for their suffering and their deaths (and has since he was a child) (see: steel (1994) for further reading)—to be overprotective and overbearing toward natasha as she takes up his mantle. especially after the events of OWAW and superman vs. darkseid: apokolips now! (2003), where he has to take a step back from being steel and can no longer physically protect her the way he used to. but instead of playing into any of that, they just have nat act bratty and entitled, with john henry’s damage being that she doesn’t “deserve” or hasn’t “earned” the mantle yet:
