a/n: first and foremost, I swear the second chapter will be longer and better. This lowkey sucks cause I put a lot of pressure on myself and then procrastinated it and then avoided it. Also, I've been painfully employed recently so that defintely affected my writing quality. This is your sign to stay jobless.
Maya Jama, the stunning, out of this world, indescribably beautiful host of Love Island UK stood by the fire pit, a small smile creasing her lips as she admired the new love island UK contestants The girls sat on the right side of the couch and the boys sat on the left, you were sitting in between a beautiful girl named Kiera who had the lightest colour of baby pink hair you had ever seen in your life and a stunning redhead named Rowan.
โWeโre going to play a little bit of an ice-breaker game,โ Maya announced, her smile shifting into more of a mischievous smirk. . โLadies, please take a sip of your champagne if there is a boy in this villa that you are attracted to so far.โ she commanded, looking to the right side of the sofa.
a beat of silence passed over the group, but after a few short seconds every single girl, except from Tanselle,ย began to take a sip from their glass You wondered why Tanselle didnโt take a sip as every single one the guys are objectively hot, but you managed to stop yourself from asking the question presuming that Maya was probably going to do it herself in a few moments.ย
Maya had a somewhat lopsided smile on her lips as she looked at the girls. It was unnerving, you felt as though she was peering through your soul. : โRowan, tell us, which of these handsome men are you attracted to?โย
Rowan grinned, not nervous at all about being put on the spot. โIโm attracted to Micah because heโs absolutely gorgeous and he was really funny when we were talking earlier.โ She spoke sure of herself, not caring if anyone agreed with her or not. Sheโd be a great politician.
Micah, a tall man with jet black hair, brown eyes, and tanned skin smirked at Rowanโs words, nodding as if to say fair enough. Almost as though he was already well aware that he was gorgeous: โnot too bad yourself,โ he replied.ย
โKiera, what about you? Which of these men are you attracted to?โ Maya prodded.ย
โWell, Iโm attracted to Daeron because he seems like fun, like a good time,โ she said, her voice cheerful, โand Valarr because heโs really sophisticated and I like a sophisticated man as much as I like a hot mess.โ Her smile was bright and her teeth were shiny. She was so beautiful it made your eyes burn.
โThanks,โ Valarr said, his lips curving just a little. Just as he spoke, Daeron did too, his voice pleasantly amused โAre you calling me a hot mess?โย
โyeah, but in a hot rich boy way!โ Kiera replied.ย
โooo, sensing a connection already,โ Maya cooed. โNow, Taylor, please tell us who youโre attracted to?โ she continued as Daeron and Kiera grinned at each other.ย
โIโm 100% attracted to Tristan, I mean look at him, who wouldnโt be?โ she said, sure of herself and her opinion. The compliment caused Tristan to beam, his smile wide and beautiful, of course it was, why did everyone here have such great smiles? Is that the entry requirement for coming on this show? you wondered for a minute if you have a beautiful smile too, if anyone here had paid attention to your grin the way you had theirs, but Maya snapped you out of your thoughts.ย
โAnd last, but certainly not least,โ she looked at you, โY/N, which of these men are you attracted to?โย
You thought for a minute, feeling a tad nervous at being put on the spot. You had takenย a sip of your champagneย because each of these men are attractive. It was another entry requirement for coming on this show. You thought fast, not wanting to be the person who stalled everyone for ages.
โIโm attracted to Valarr because he has floppy hairโฆโ you say, โand a posh boy smile so you know heโd spoil you.โ you keep a happy face but internally cringe, if you wanted to come across as a gold digger then you definitely did the right job. You didnโt think it was entirely evil, claiming that you wanted to be spoiled, but it could be seen as coming on too strong on the first day by the viewers and the other people in the villa.Yeah, they are one hundred percent going to hate you now.
But then, suddenly, out of nowhere, like the big bang, like a huge explosion in your small village, Valarr laughed. Not one of those annoying fake laughs that people do because they feel bad that your joke didnโt land as intended, he actually found your commentย funny and you were so glad. He seemed like aย genuinely sweet person so you didnโt want to offend him.ย ย
โTanselle, why didnโt you take a sip?โ Maya asks, tilting her head in confusion.ย
โIโm definitely a personality girl, all of these men are objectively attractive but I canโt be attracted to anyone who I donโt know.โ She lamented, and by the look on her face it was quite obvious she wasnโt putting on a performance or anything, she wasnโt trying to seem different and โnot like other girlsโ she truly felt that way. You found it sweet.ย
When it was finally the guysโ turn to drink, every single one of them took a sip. Daeron said he was attracted to Kiera because heโs โinto her pink hairโ which made her laugh, loudly, beautifully. Duncan said he was interested in Tanselle because sheโs beautiful and because she needs to know someone before being attracted to him and he related to thatโฆ but then he went on to say heโs attracted to Taylor because she looks like a princess. Tanselle smiled, a blush covering her cheeks, but when he said he was attracted to Taylor her smile faltered because she realised that he was contradicting himself. Tristan said he was attracted to Taylor because she called him hot as well as Rowan because sheโs a dancer and he finds flexibility interesting โ you did, in fact, visibly cringe at his words. Micah said he was attracted to you because youโre funny and have a great smile, and heโs attracted to Tanselle because sheโs stunning and very up front. Finally, Valarr said that he was attracted to you because you had a great sense of humour and you were just absolutely gorgeous, and Kiera for basically the same reasons.ย
Then, Maya asked the group โtake a sip of your drink if you have noticed some red flags tonight.โ and funnily enough, only three people drank. You, Tristan, and Rowan.ย
โTristan, why did you take a sip, what red flags have you seen? She asked, intrigued.ย
โUm, when sheโ โ he turned to look at you. Your eyes widened almost instantly, wondering what youโve done to come across as a red flag so soon into the summer, especially to the man who clearly didnโt remember your name.โSaid that sheโs attracted to Valarr cause he looks like heโd spoil her, that was a bit of a red flag because it feels a bit materialistic.โ
โI knew itโ you thought. Heโs going to hate you, heโs going to think youโre a loser who only cares about money. you donโt. youโre not a materialist. If he hates you that means the general public are going to hate you.
โOh, I wasnโt bothered,โ Valarr defends, immediately soothing your nervesโItโs actually quite funny.โย
โYou can spoil people in more than one way,โ you smile, sweetly (well, you were hoping it was coming across as sweetly because you did not feel anything sweet towards Tristan right now) โIt doesnโt all revolve around money, maybe youโre the materialist for thinking that way.โย ย ย
Tristan nods in agreement, now seeing your point of view; โyeah, fairs, then.โ he said.ย
โWhy did you take a sip?โ Maya asked, now directing her question towards you.ย
โWell, I found it a bit of a red flag when Duncan said he was attracted to Tanselle because she prefers personality over looks because youโre โthe same way โand then jumped right into saying he was attracted to Taylor because she looks like a princess.โ You say, โIt irked me the wrong way, it was a bit contradictory. Also, Tanselle is a supermodel, an angel in human form, no one would judge you if you just admit youโre attracted to her because sheโs an absolute stunner.โย
Tanselle shot you a small smile and you gave her one back; however, Duncan's face turned bright red from embarrassment and you could tell he was doing whatever he could to stop himself from cowering away from the piercing gazes from everyone around the firepit, to say you felt guilty would be an understatement.ย ย
โI-I think that Tanselle is really pretty too, of course I do, I think she might be the prettiest one here but I just didnโt want to make her uncomfortable or anything.โ he spluttered out.ย
You made a small pout as if to say: awwwwโฆ and then Daeron ruined it by putting a hand on his back and saying, โah good boy.โย
He did genuinely seem like a sweet guy โ Duncan, not Daeronย โ and you were rooting for him and Tanselle to get together. His cheeks flushed whenever she spoke, or whenever she was near, or whenever she breathed. He really liked her and it was incredibly sweet.ย ย
โAnd Rowan, why did you take a sip?โ Maya asked, not bothering to go further into Duncanโs blatant crush on Tanselle.ย
โWhen I was talking to Micah Daeron kept interrupting and I think thatโs a little bit of a red flag,โ Rowan responded, glancing at Daeron for just a second and then back to Maya, โI mean, donโt really wanna be interrupted when Iโm chatting up someone hot, do I?โย
โMy sincerest apologies, I am, in fact, drunk.โ he said, holding his drink up as though to prove his point. His smile was lazyย and watery, clearly the face of a drunken man.ย
โHow are you drunk? Weโve been here for less than an hour.โ Micah asked, the confusion on his face more evident than biceps straining against his T-shirt, and seriously, the biceps were evident.ย ย
โI always find a way to get drunk.โย
โNot in here you won't," Maya informed him.
โListen up, islanders,โ Maya announced, โThis year we will be doing something completely different. There will be no games, no fun little activities to decide who youโre coupling up with,nothing of the sort. Instead, you will decide your couples between yourselves.โย ย
The group went silent again, intrigued by this idea. Usually on love island there was a complicated way of deciding who should couple up with who, a game, a challenge, something fun and strange. The problem with the games was that not everyone always ended up with who they wanted but this year there was a better chance of everyone ending up in a happier couple!
In your head, you coupled everyone up, coming to the conclusion that you should be in charge but not saying that out loud because you knew how insane it would sound. Tanselle and Duncanโ Taylor and Micah - Tristan and Rowan - You and Daeron (youโd take one for the team so everyone could have who they wanted)โ Kiera and Valarr . You had a specific plan in your head, a plan you knew wouldnโt work out, but a plan. You liked to think ahead and then freak the fuck out when things didnโt go your way.ย
โCouple up with me?โ A voice cuts you out of your thoughts, rudely. You look up to see Valarr looking at you expectantly, of course the pretty posh boy with floppy hair would ruin your plans, thatโs all they do. Thatโs what they were put on this earth to do. You were going to tell him no so that things in the villa could progress how you had planned them in your head, but he had pretty eyes, and a smile laced with anticipation, how were you supposed to tell him no. You just wondered why he wanted to couple up with you, he seemed pretty into Kiera earlier when they were talking before Maya came.ย
โYeah,โ you smile, โsure.โย ย
His smile widened just a fraction, and he nodded, glad that you agreed. Youโre not an idiot, anyone could see that he actually wanted Kiera. You had a sneaking suspicion you were just a safety option but you were willing to look past that for the sake of being afraid that you were just overthinking things.
โOkay, Valarr, Y/N, please come to the front as our first couple of the season,โ Maya said excitedly, gesturing for you to come to the front.ย
You pushed yourself up from the plush couch, taking Valarrโs hand that he was holding out for you. He held your hand tightly as you walked to the fire pit, and when you finally got there he lazily threw his arm around your shoulder as you both waited for everyone else to couple up.ย
Your nerves were going haywire,ย you were almost completely sure it was just first night jitters as you were a generally confident person, you just wondered how introverts did stuff like this on a daily basis.ย
The group talked amongst themselves, everyone trying to decide who they should couple up with. You werenโt paying too much to them, instead, you were focused on the way a man who you met less than an hour ago was absentmindedly playing with your hair as though it was second nature. You wouldโve found it sweet but it was strange how quick and easy it was for him to make a connection. You wondered, almost accidentally, how long heโs been single. You surmise it hasnโt been that long considering how easy it is for him to move on and have a connection with someone else. It says a lot about a person, how quickly theyโre able to move on from past relationships, it shows if they care about the connections theyโre making or not.ย
โHow long have you been single?โ you whisper, looking up at him.ย
โFour years,โ he whispers back, his soft eyes meeting yours, โand you?โย
โ Two years. How long was your last relationship?โ you ask him.ย
โSix years, how about you?โย
โNine months.โ You reply, doing the maths in your head. Heโs twenty-four, has been single since he was twenty, and his last relationship lasted six years which means they were together since they were sixteenโฆ thatโs insane.ย
โWhy did your relationship end?โ You ask him, genuinely curious. Unfortunately, he was cut off by Maya announcing the second couple.ย
โRowan and Tristan, please join us at the firepit.โย
You had no idea how that happened. Valarr leaned down just a bit to whisper in your ear, his hot breath fanning on the side of your neck sending shivers down your spine. โWeโll talk later, yeah?โย
You nod, a small smile spreading on your lips.ย
One by one โ or, perhaps two by two โ more couples were created. Duncan and Taylor, Kiera and Daeron, and finally, Tanselle and Micah. You were a little bit irked that Duncan and Taylor got together when it was obvious to you that Duncan should be with Tanselle and Micah should be with Taylor, but once again, youโre not the ruler of the universe and canโt control what everyone else in the world does despite the fact you know deep down that the world would be a better place for it.ย
โWell,โ Maya began, clapping her hands together, โnow that youโre all coupled up, looking absolutely gorgeous together, itโs time for me to go. I hope you enjoy the rest of your party and I promise, youโll be seeing me soon.โย
Cheers followed her as she left, everyone excited to get back to the party, and thatโs exactly what everyone did. The drinks were limited as you werenโt allowed to get drunk but it was actually quite fun. You and Valarr talked for a while โ you learned that he runs a non-profit organisation which he was only able to do because he has a privileged background, he has a cat named Mopey, he and his last girlfriend broke up because she cheated on him with his best friend, and his favourite book is Animal Farm โ before you decided to chat with other people.ย
You learned a lot, actually. Before Rowan had decided to become a dance teacher, she was a stripper. Tanselle created art for rich people who wanted to seem cultured, she seems very happy about her job. Tristan actually only became an English teacher because a girl he found fit was doing the same course. Daeron had a bunch of clubs all throughout the united kingdom, one of which you frequented with your friends. The least shocking of all the new information was Duncan telling you that he was a rugby player, you figured that out the second you saw him. He was tall, built, and a little bit of a numpty, it was pretty obvious that he was a rugby player.ย ย ย ย ย
You played a quick game of truth or dare โ where Tristan revealed that he once licked whipped cream out of a girl's armpit โ and then called it a night.ย
Your bones were weary as you washed your makeup off. Your hair pushed out of your face with a fluffy hairband you had borrowed from Kiera โ in exchange for her doing your hair tomorrow. You couldnโt wait to see what type of tan youโd be getting over the next few weeks, well, unless you got dumped really early.ย ย
โI am so excited to share a bed with Tristan,โ Rowan said. Tristan tied her curls into two braids so her hair didnโt get matted while she was sleeping. After getting a few confused looks from other girls she felt the need to clarify โ โnot because Iโm going to have sex with him, but because he looks like heโd be nice to cuddle.โย
Taylor made a sound of agreement, rubbing moisturiser into her face, โsame with Duncan, heโs like a bear. I want him to put all his body weight on me.โย
โThat is an absolutely insane thing to be saying to people you donโt know,โ Kiera said, she was already ready for bed but she didnโt want to go to bed just yet so she just stayed and chatted with you guys as you got ready.ย
โWeโll know each other pretty well soon enough,โ you commented, rubbing aggressively at your eye to get the layers of mascara off.ย
โFairs,โ you heard her respond, before she was at your side handing you some cleansing balm, โthis one works best with eye products.โย
โThanks,โ you grin, leaning over and pressing a soft kiss on her cheek which makes her smile back at you. It was a habit you had picked up when you were only a kid because your sisters absolutely loved kissing your cheeks. .ย
Soon enough, when you were all ready for bed you headed off to the bedroom. You were a bit nervous to share a bed with Valarr, he was a complete stranger and you hadnโt even known him for a day, you had all of these questions running full speed through your mind: was he a cuddler? Did he get really hot? Would he kick you in his sleep? Did he talk in his sleep? Did he move about a lot?ย ย
he had picked the bed while you were getting changed, one at the opposite side of the room, next to Duncan and the wall. He waved you over with a small smile when you entered the bedroom, opening the covers for you.ย
You quickly left the group of girls behind and strolled over to the bed, your stuffed otter plush tucked under your arm. โCute,โ Valarr commented. โHis name is Ollie,โ you replied, sitting on the edge of the bed. You wanted to groan at how soft the mattress was but managed to keep it down.ย
โWhatโs with the dungeress?โ Valarr asks, reaching out and taking the stuffed animal from your arms. โHe was a present from my seven year old brother last year, thereโs no logic or anything, he just went with cuteness.โ you said, snatching the otter right out of his hands, causing him to laugh.ย
โWhat side of the bed do you sleep on?โ You wonder aloud, sitting Ollie in the middle of the bed.ย
โRight side,โ he replied, โso you donโt need to move or anything.โย ย
You both settled under the covers. The bedroom was filled with low chatter, the lights dim, and the atmosphere cozy. The day had been objectively uneventful and you were hoping for more fun tomorrow, hoping for fun, for games, for sun. You wanted to get to know everyone as best you could, wanted to make new friends, wanted to share your life with new people. You were also super excited to get over your nerves, tomorrow you wouldnโt feel anxious, youโd be outgoing and you were so excited to see what was going to come. Anticipation was pulsating underneath your skin as you settled into the sheets.ย
