“Oh.” ( He’s saying that a lot isn’t he? ) Ethan’s teeth clack together as he grits them uncomfortably, his cheeks still bunched in that slight smile. Molded, BOW, DNA, bioweapons, and E-001 – Of course he knows what it all means, but for some reason he still feels like he’s been dunked in cold water. Eveline is the last thing he wants to think about, especially when someone is talking about him. Being comfortable in his own skin is something that’s taken Ethan a long time to even get close to feeling. Now he’s thinking, yet again, about whether or not his own hands might try to strangle him tonight. Great.
“That, uh. Does sound useful, for sure.” He exhales a breath and covers his fingers with his jacket sleeve when he instinctively raises them to pinch at the bridge of his nose. “I’d rather not get dissected. A knife in the mouth is bad enough…How did they–I mean, did they. Hurt you? To make you that?” Ethan doesn’t say anything about himself, though.
She can tell she’s made him uncomfortable / even as poor as she is at reading others ( and 16 is no help, as placid and expressionless as he is ), Ethan is not especially subtle. Her head tilts, long hair shifting at her back, as she tries to figure out just what it is she’s said that cause the reaction. It wouldn’t be odd if mentions of Eveline and the like were triggering, she supposes. The android makes a mental note of that for the future.
“Hm? Oh, only at the beginning — I grew at an accelerated pace and now have the mind of an adult, but I’ve only actually existed for about ten years. It’s a bit frustrating, honestly; that I never got to experience an adolescence. The first few years of my existence involved a great deal of experimentation and tweaking of my biology, which was often painful.” And left a great many scientists dead. “Now, though, I’ve surpassed the point where I can be improved upon, and have learned to grow and take on new abilities without pain.” A beat, and she — smiles.  “That’s very kind of you to ask, Ethan. I...appreciate that you treat me like a person and not a weapon. And — given that you’re allowing me to study you like this, I’ll repay you by ensuring that you aren’t hurt any more, either.”
