No human trait bothers me more than an inability to be punctual. Yesterday my competition partner was 4 hours late for a practice that was meant to last 5 hours. 4 HOURS LATE. And now she was meant to pick me up from the airport 40 minutes ago and still isn't here. It his half 5 in the morning and I am seething to my core. How fucking hard is it to be on time for things?!
Sunday Afternoon
The idea of you
Sits rooted so deep in my mind
With your pen and notebook
On the curbside of nowhere
With a vinyl record playing the Sunday soundtrack
On repeat.
You don’t know that your tired Sunday eyes
Wrinkle around the edges when you smile.
Ignorant to how your shoulders tense
With the long, sweeping strokes
Of pen to paper.
Draw shapes of Jupiter in my palm
And I’ll write a poem about how it felt
When the boy who held the world with his fingertips
Taught me to love
A Sunday afternoon. Â

All it takes is one sentence to make you feel sick to your stomach, and I hate that one person can hold that much power.
Sunday Mornings
My English tutor once said to me that you know you’re happy in a relationship when you look at a person and can picture them on a Sunday morning 10 years down the line. I understand that now, as I can finally see it. I can now see my current significant other (I’m loathed to say boyfriend) sat in an armchair at the window, summer light drifting in and falling on to the issue of the Sunday Times and cup of coffee. I can see the navy V-neck sweater, faded chinos and worn in deck shoes and glasses. And then I realise, that in this vision, he hasn’t aged at all. And I don’t know why I can’t visualise us as being together at any other point in life than right now. Maybe it’s the commitment issues, maybe it’s the knowledge deep inside me that is telling me that it can’t ever work out, or maybe it’s the fact that I know the rose-tinted ideas we create for ourselves never pan out how we’d hoped. Who knows why? All I know is that I want to skip forward, past the awkwardness of the next few years. Past the ‘will we, won’t we’ make it of this summer, and the next, and all the uncertainty of the present. For the first time in my life, I want certainty and comfort that comes from a Sunday morning reading the paper over a cup of coffee in the lounge of a suburban London terrace. The worst part is, I know the likelihood of things working out that way is next to none.
Reading through my ‘To Kill A Mockingbird’ notes once before I relax and try not to think about the exam tomorrow 📚😣

Looked really cute until I actually started working…
The Small Things
I’ve often wondered whether couples who have been together for years (i’m talking 20 years+) still notice the small things.
Like how the light falls on someone’s face as they sit beside a lamp sketching, accentuating the lines around their eyes when they smile;
how the muscles on their back ripple and move when they’re playing a video game wearing a thin grey t-shirt;
or how Sundays are the days for glasses instead of contact lenses, and that particular green Trinity College jumper.
When is it that the small things melt into the mundane, losing their charm? I guess that must be one of the secrets to a long and happy marriage. To never lose sight of the tiny things that you could sit and watch for hours.
