A loud sound echoed through the woods, followed by another. A body fell to the ground, landing on dry, lifeless leaves, just like the place itself. It was a deer that had been eating the sparse grass that grew in such an environment.
"Poor deer," Enid commented, holding the gun she hadn't yet fired.
"Survival of the fittest wins here," she heard Wednesday say as she reloaded her weapon and walked past her. "Hold this for me?" She slung the gun over her shoulder and watched as he pulled out a knife to skin the animal. Enid's parents and brother set up a small camp. The butler took care of almost everything.
"Is this forest always like this?" she asked, sitting and looking around.
"No," Wednesday replied after wiping her hands on a small white rag that was now stained red. Seeing her girl with her sleeves rolled up, wiping the sweat from her hands and brow after hunting a large deer, made her seem more masculine. Like something out of one of those romantic movies she loved so much.
A deep blush rose to her face as a heat enveloped her. She couldn't tear her eyes away from her girl and had to bite her lip, trying to suppress the urge to be with her.
"Try shooting that bird," the dark-haired girl said, pointing to a nearby tree branch.
The bird was large and dark, pecking at the tree trunk in search of food. Enid immediately refused.
"I'm not going to kill a poor bird!" she exclaimed, waving her hands in the air.
"It's an invasive bird. It devours other birds' eggs before laying its own, and when they hatch… they eat the mother," her explanation seemed to convince her. Enid aimed the gun, though her hands trembled slightly, so her girl, with her sleeves rolled up, held it firmly, clasping her hands together. Enid stopped looking at the bird, her gaze fixed on her girl's lips. Wednesday, for her part, didn't look at her and made sure she hit the target.
"Aim…stay calm…and…" She pressed her finger against Enid's, urging her to pull the trigger.
The sound echoed, then another. The bird plummeted from above.
"Excellent aim, Enid!" the man exclaimed with a smile from his position. "It's clear Wednesday is a good teacher." The wolf lowered the gun, and Morticia holstered hers.
Morticia instructed Pugsley and Enid to watch a deer being skinned so they could learn. Although she wasn't used to blood, spending time with her roommate and now girlfriend, facing a Hyde, and other dangers, made her somewhat more tolerant…until a few minutes had passed.
"At least she held out a little longer this time," said Wednesday, taking her by the arms and dragging her to a sleeping bag she used for resting.
The she-wolf woke up after ten minutes.
Until lunch was ready, they went for a walk in one of the family's well-protected areas. Wednesday didn't want any surprises, and only the two of them would be in that part of the forest.
"So peaceful and quiet…wait…there's nothing dangerous, is there?" the she-wolf asked, a little nervous, looking around.
"No, and control yourself…Enid," she stopped in front of her, "you're an alpha, remember?"
"Yes, but…" she lowered her gaze, "I'm not as strong as you."
Wednesday looked away. "You're right… you're stronger," she said before continuing, surprising Enid with her response.
They both reached a small river. Wednesday took out a few towels before taking off her clothes. Enid covered her eyes for a second. But in between glances, she saw her girlfriend's figure.
"You've seen everything… I don't understand why you're not looking," she heard someone say.
"You're right, but no one's coming, are you sure?" Wednesday's look was enough of an answer.
The two bathed in the river, and Enid felt a chill that took her a while to get used to. Then came a moment of hugs, kisses, and passion from the two young outcasts. It had been a while since they'd had any intimacy because of classes, exams, activities, and their arrival at the mansion.
"I admit I'm starting to enjoy…intimacy," she said, lowering her voice as she finished getting dressed.
"That's what we she-wolves are like…we're so passionate that we have that effect on our partners," she smiled at Wednesday and winked.
"Just don't get used to…to…to…" she swallowed.
"To being the one in control?" The dark-haired woman adjusted her backpack and looked away. She was capable of torturing, killing, and burying… but she still didn't know how to deal with those subjects.
Back at the camp, they grilled the meat and enjoyed a great outdoor getaway where Enid even dared to sing. Although when she finished, everyone stared at her with strange looks.
"Enid… I don't like those kinds of songs," the dark-haired girl commented, taking her hands away from her ears.
"Hey, I like them," she said, "you'll see, you'll end up liking them."
Although she sighed and promised not to sing them for the time being.
What she did do was take a lot of photos and souvenirs for posterity. Back at the mansion, she hummed happily or talked with Pugsley.
"Finally home… it was a great outing," the man asked Large to leave the hunted animals where they always were, and the butler, after letting out a grunt, left.
That night, as they slept together in bed, they heard a loud scream that startled the wolf, making her sit up for a few seconds, frightened and asking what it was.
"It's just a burglar," the Addams murmured from her bed with her eyes closed. Soon a gunshot rang out. "Yes, it was a burglar. My father must have caught him."
"It'll take me a while to get used to your lifestyle," she lay down and pulled the blanket over herself before settling in a little.
"You'll get used to it… I promise." There were still days left at the mansion, and Enid wondered what awaited her. So far, everything had been an emotional rollercoaster.
To be continued…
