“Of course I have. I’ve seen it since I was kid and how they make us the villains even when we aren’t. Look at the X-Men, they never got as much respect or anything like these supes do. All mutants get is hated no matter what group.” She snickered. “Nobody is making anything any better. They hate us and they always will no matter what we do.”

Alex hated to admit it but the telepathic mutant was right. The X-Men had dedicated their lives to help people, both mutant and human and look where it got them? They weren’t branded terrorists like the brotherhood. “And you and Erik do nothing to help that.” Mutants were hated but that was mostly because of the actions of the brotherhood. “How do you plan on turning the world in a mutant-accepting way?” She was a great telepath but no one could change the minds of billions.

It was sad and pathetic, the groveling was laughable. Alex Summers was not a mutant that he or anyone in his brotherhood could trust and yet he wanted to join the very organization he had fought against.  “What is best for my granddaughter is to be around people who will help nurture her powers, you haven’t done that,” Erik said with a chuckle. “How could you benefit my brotherhood and Genosha, you’re just a solider and a failed one at that.” His little task force had done nothing of note, it wasn’t in the same league as the x-men or worthy enough to be an enemy of his brotherhood. 

Alex had nowhere else to turn. Everything he loved, everything he had worked for was slowly crumbling away and he couldn’t do anything about it. “And I will help her,” He said defensively. “She already has signs of my powers and you don’t have a single mutant who can help her.” If Magneto’s interests were truly there to benefit Katie than Alex couldn’t see how he could refuse. “I’m not a failed solider, The X-Factor has been a success because of me and I can bring that to Genosha.”

Almost everything was right in Erik’s family and it was the first time it was almost complete. Lorna had been the first to return to him and now Wanda was slowly coming into the fold. Katie, his granddaughter was now in Genosha, protected from the cruelty of humans and the suppressive nature of her father which is why it was strange that he received a request to meet the second Summers brother.  He had arranged to meet Alex in the Genoshan embassy, already establishing more power of the man than he did before. Deliberately he kept Alex waiting in part Erik hoped that Alex would go away and leave his daughter alone but the man seemed desperate enough. “I’m surprised you came,” Erik said smugly. “Is this a business meeting to discuss your farce of a mutant programme or is it personal?”

Lorna and Katie had been gone for a few weeks and it had killed Alex. He knew he had brought this on himself but taking Katie was to keep her away from Magneto and his influence, not drive Lorna and his daughter into the magnetic mutants grip. Still, here he was in the Genoshan embassy, something he had actively avoided. “The X-Factor isn’t a farce, we’ve actually helped.” More recently they hadn’t but if it came between his own people and his family, there was no choice really. “It’s a bit of both.” Alex didn’t realize but he was holding his breath. “I want to come to Genosha. I know you hate me but it’s what is best for your granddaughter.” Appealing to Magneto’s heart when he didn’t have one was a risky move but it was the only move Alex had. 

The shudder made her smirk. So prudish. Scott was the more fun Summers and she did miss him, even though they argued a bit before she left. “I think you do. It might be deep down but I think it’s their and it eats you up. You have shame with it, I think. A shame that keeps you hiding what you are from everyone. People hated our kind before the Brotherhood even existed and you know it. Try as hard as you can to blame the Brotherhood and Magneto for everything but we are the reaction from what people have done to our kind.”

Emma was almost right. Alex wasn’t ashamed of his mutation, in fact, it was the thing that had brought Lorna into his life and in turn, Katie. “My safety and my daughters is what keeps me hiding it or haven’t you seen the news recently?” There wasn’t any shame but there was a lot of fear. Unlike Emma and the stepford cuckoo’s, Alex didn’t have control over his powers and even with his containment suit, sometimes he powers needed to unleash it and that was the worst times.  “But you haven’t made it any better.” Alex replied quickly. “You;ve fuelled their hatred and fear so every mutant death, that’s on you lot.” The brotherhood was a product of hate but while Xavier had tried to fix things, The Brotherhood wanted the exact opposite. 

Lorna, regretfully, wrenched herself out of his arms and stepped back. “This isn’t appealing to my father. It’s appealing to me.” She put her hands on her hips. “Appealing to me by introducing my, our, daughter to her grandfather.” She began to pace something she did when she was angry and to keep her powers from acting of her own accord. “Because when you took Katie and skipped town he came for me when I was screaming in a ball on the floor after I’d trashed the house. The one who gave me a home and comforted me and made sure I ate every day. The one who continues to help me search for the daughter you stole away!” The metal in the room began to shake. 

Alex sighed. It was the same argument they had years ago and neither of them had changed their stance. “The leave the brotherhood and we can be a family. We can have our house and it’ll be without the x-men or the brotherhood.” That’s all that Alex wanted but he knew he probably said the worst thing to Lorna. He didn’t want to dictate this, but he had to protect Katie from Magneto. He froze on the spot when the metal started to shake. “Lorna calm down, I didn’t make the right decision at that time I know that but she’s happy and safe.”

“Hardly reaching. Any therapist worth their salt would come to the same conclusion I did and I don’t mean the kind of therapist I was. The disdain you have for your own kind and yourself is something you should see someone about instead of hiding and projecting.” Emma was being firm with him, civil but her tone was teetering on sharp. “I already know all that. You only see what you want to with him, you haven’t given him a real chance. They aren’t? What would you call people that hunt your kind and persecute them and force you to keep what you are from daughter and what she is from herself?”

Alex shuddered. The thought of Scott and Emma together in her twisted version of therapy was not a mental he wanted or needed.  “I don’t have any ill feelings towards being a mutant, only for the ones who kill innocent people.” Magneto was the main mutant he had an issue with and that was due to the bloodshed and not the genetics he had. “The people who hate mutants is mostly out of fear that the brotherhood has caused. Katie won’t ever hate what she is but she won’t hate humans either.”

Warren wasn’t heartless like people seemed to think he was. He did care about all of the mutants who were ending up dead or hurt because of the scaremongering over them. “I guess you could see it like that.” It was hardly difficult to rise above when you lived in a secure penthouse in Manhattan.

“We’re going right to the crux of the issue, hm?” he questioned, eyebrow quirking up. He could feel the feathers against the back of his neck prickle a little like he had to be careful about what he should say here. “I’m not working directly with them, but supes can’t replace the military entirely, so people are still going to want jets. Also, they’ve asked about some of my facilities for medical research.”

The news outlets didn’t care enough to report on missing mutants or the sudden rise in ones turning up dead. It would have been sad if all they could write about was how mutants were ruining the world. “Enough about Reavers, if anyone hears us talking about them I’m sure we’ll either be kicked out or taken to one of their labs.” Laboratory’s still scared Alex a little. Ever since Ahmet Abdol had experimented on him, it wasn’t a good place.  “Why beat around the bush?” Alex said, trying to mask the severity of the situation with a chuckle. Vought had won the military bill and everyone at his base had been devastated by the news. Whatever strings they pulled or people they paid, his small branch of the military was no match for them. “My advice if you want it, do the business with the jets but keep vought out of any medical research.” 

“Sounds rough,” Sophie comments as casually as can be. It was a little insensitive but that was no surprise coming from the three of them. “But this is on you.” She adds quickly, looking towards him. “You kinda forced Magneto’s hand here. You were given other options,” Had he joined or at the very least just handed the kid over this all would have been avoided; it wasn’t even a big deal. Humans dying was hardly the end of the world, simply a casualty of war. “Could have gone a lot worse,” Phoebe piped up. “I wish we could have gone along. we haven’t had any real fun in a while,” A little sadistic smirk settled on her lips. Esme chuckled more out of sympathy than anything else. “I actually don’t think they sell that here,” Esme teased right back although her tone was a lot more light. The sisters didn’t drink often, it left them feeling… cloudy if they had a little too much but there was no harm in a few. Ordering themselves three drinks, Esme looked to Alex expecting him to place an order too. The man smashing his glass was both surprising and a little amusing. Sophie tried to fight back a smile meanwhile Phoebe just rolled her eyes. “You need to calm down or we’ll do it for you,” She insisted. “As funny as your little show was, you’re wasting your anger on us. You can dream of revenge all you want but you don’t even know where she is do you?” Phoebe was feeling particularly feisty today.  “Tell you what though because we’re feeling so… generous, how about we make all those bad feelings go away?”

He tried to ignore the Frost Sisters but the three of them were like a bad headache, unsure of when they were going away. “None of this is on me.” He had buried his grandfather and his grandmother was devastated but there was nothing he could do about it. “What options? Willingly hand over my daughter so she can be a weapon?” Alex carried the guilt that now more of his family was gone and in a way, Alex did blame himself. The Frost Sisters would have loved what happened, as sick as it was they seemed to thrive in chaos.  The chuckle irritated him. Alex could never understand why the Brotherhood wanted this neverending war when they could leave in peace. “I’m surprised you three don’t have your own supply tucked away somewhere.” Alex never relied on drinking so much but the past few weeks he had needed the release and escape from the X-Factor’s main base even though it was practically empty more recently. He glared at the three but more so at Phoebe, the more feisty one out of three. “Touch my mind or mess with my daughter you’ll know what it feels like to be that glass.” He didn’t know if they were like Emma, if they had a diamond form. 

The corner of Emma’s lips turned into an unwilling smile but she bit it back and soaked in his words. Scott had told her all about the family drama and had done often. “I’d say ask any family we know but they are all as bad as each other. I think it comes with being hunted for what you are born as and being forced to hide who you are. Even to yourself.” In her opinion, Alex was doing just that to his own child by hiding her away. “He won’t. He knows she is too young for any of this and just wants her safe. Did you even talk to them before stealing here away?”

Jean and Emma were so different, they were both telepaths and mutants but from what Alex could see, that was where the similarities ended. The X-Men always had their suspicions about Emma and they were all confirmed the minute she betrayed them and joined Magneto. “I’d say you’re reaching but it was a good effort.” Things with his adoptive parents had grown complicated with his mutation and even now he went weeks without speaking to them. “I lived with Lorna for a year after Katie was born. I could see how Magneto was, always talking about humans being the enemy and I don’t want my daughter thinking like that.” That first year was one of the greatest and craziest years of his life. He was adjusting to a newborn and having Magneto as a permanent fixture to his life.

The mood was not a good one but Ryan had never been in a bar before and wanted to see what it was about and if he’d like it so the other mans crappy mood wasn’t going to put a damper on his experiment. Taking out the Vought card he’d been given, he bought himself and the other a beer. The first sip was disgusting and hard to take another but he kept it, slowly sipping it. “I didn’t want to sit alone and I think I recognise you, you’re Katie’s Dad? I’m Ryan. I think we’ve met once before at a beach, do you remember?”

Alex winced at seeing a Vought card being so readily used. There wasn’t one place in the city were vought wasn’t used, even though there weren’t any posters, they wormed their way in everywhere. “Ryan?” Alex asked, a little surprised to see the eight or nine-year-old now in his prime. If he was Ryan, then Vought had stolen his childhood from him. “I think so but the kid I met was just a kid. What did they do to you?” It all reminded him of Gabriel and what the Shi’ar race had done to his little brother. If it was the same thing, Ryan Butcher was now a person of interest.

SOMEONE needed to keep an eye on the Seven and everythin’ else tha’ was goin’ on. The lads an’ the female still weren’t speakin’ to him after he left ‘em all to go after Homelander but he aint tried gettin’ in tough wi’ them either. "Nothin’ to see here,” he said as he noticed someone starin’ at him, “but if you wanna keep lookin’ at me, I’ll give ya a shiner.”

The military had been wrapped around vought’s little finger and it was sickening. The very few mutants who had remained after the reavers had started to question the point of allying with a company that hates the very thing they were and Alex couldn’t blame them. He was their leader so he had no choice but to stay and try and stomach what was going on. “Trust me pal I’m not staring at you.” Alex was tired. Tired of the attitude of people in and around vought and tired of people thinking they could speak to him like a piece of shit for nothing. 

God this felt so good. It felt like old times. Lorna could just close her eyes and pretend she was back five years ago. Only the lack of sunlight on her closed eyelids told her she wasn’t. She wanted it so bad, she wanted to be with her daughter, to be raising her, to be a family. Maybe even be a family with Alex. It would be so good, and with his arms around her it felt like it was right in her reach. His comment about her father made her stiffen. No he couldn’t do this, he couldn’t tease her with her daughter and bash her father and everything they stood for in the same second. “Screw you.” She muttered and pushed at him. 

A lot had happened in their five years of separation but having Lorna close, well, it all just came flooding back. The feeling of family and the love he had for her had been overwhelming in this situation but Alex knew that he would always love her despite her ties to the brotherhood. He could feel her stiffen in his embrace and just like that all the memories of their fights were back. “Lorna I’m trying to compromise here but I’m not risking our daughter and her happiness just to appeal to your father.” How Lorna could be okay with everything Magneto did was one of Alex’s biggest struggles but even she couldn’t deny the monster that he was.

“I can see why. Scott is trustworthy even with the difficulties you two have with each other and the rest of your family. Aren’t you tired of that? Of creating that drama within your family. Summers and Magneto. You could have had an ally with him, you still could. With the Brotherhood. All we want to do is protect our kind, not use them.” She had no desire to use his child or any of them.

Alex knew he had an easier start than the rest of his brothers. He was adopted into a loving, yet slightly weird family, but they had made them part of their family. Hell, they’d even given him their name until he decided to keep to the Summers name but Scott and Gabriel didn’t have the best start. “What’s family life without a little drama?” Katie didn’t know the burdens of her lineage. She knew the loving life her grandparents had provided for her and that was enough for now. “He will use her, you know that. If she has powers she’ll be powerful.” Katie was the best of him and Lorna and judging how powerful Scott’s children were, Magneto wouldn’t be able to resist. 

“People can be more than cruel.” Anyone who wasn’t a mutant had betrayed him when they knew, no one more than Cameron Hodge and that had ended up with him recovering from being Archangel. He could see why Alex wouldn’t want to go through with telling people in the military where he was. It was good that someone understood though; every other mutant told him that he shouldn’t have to hide.

“Well, I’m not often that way but I might have to make a diversion.”

If anyone knew the cruelty of humans it was any mutant. One way or another any mutant had been a victim to the cruelty of human ignorance. “Well, each time we rise above we’re the bigger person right?” Honestly, Alex knew why people had left for Genosha. It was the one place on the planet where mutants could live without being hunted or driven mad with fear. “So what’s your company got going on in Vought?” It was part of his job to ask. To investigate Vought and any activities that may interest the united states. 

Reunion Alex / Lorna / Erik

Lorna felt the warm solidness of her father’s hand on her back and his calm words. It wasn’t enough to make her go up and knock on the door herself but it was enough to make her shoulders loosen. Stepping back into the yard she let Erik take the lead and knock. The yard was actually kind of nice. Not as nice as the palace or place Katie would have in Genosha but a nice place for a child nonetheless.

A slam made her jolt and she looked up to see her father getting the door slammed in his face. Well that wasn’t entirely unexpected. What was unexpected was her father taking the hinges off the door and driving them into Alex’s grandfather’s neck. A shriek escaped her as Lorna clapped her hands over her mouth. Of course she knew they weren’t just going to hand Katie over but…oh god. She staggered backward so she wouldn’t have to see it. At least now she wasn’t the only one screaming.

From where she was standing Lorna could see into a nice green backyard. The kind with a soccer ball, a pink bike with training wheels and a plastic playhouse. A playhouse with someone moving around in it. If Lorna just stood on her tiptoes she could make out a head of dirty blonde hair. Her heart started racing again as she walked into the backyard and stooped down to peek into the child sized door. Her daughter was sitting in the corner of the house curled up in a ball. Lorna chanced a guess. “Katie?” The little girl looked up at him with eyes just like her own.

Lorna shrieking didn’t make Erik react in any way, he was living for this moment. “You knew this wouldn’t be easy Lorna, this is the cost.” Erik was calm and centered even though he was killing a man. He twisted the hinges, causing the wound to open more. The blood continued to pour and judging from the amount, the man wouldn’t last long.  “And she will love her mutant one as well,” Erik snapped at Erik. The feeble attempts of trying to reason with him through Lorna was transparent. Alex had taken his family and this was the cost, he would take one of his so he knew the pain.  “While I deal with your past mistakes go and find your daughter.” Erik commanded. 

His world was spinning out of control. First, the life Alex had built so carefully for his daughter had been crumbling down in a matter of minutes and still, Lorna seemed unphased by the horror her father was inflicting. “You can’t just dictate who she’ll love when you pay for it in blood.” He spat back at the male magnetic mutant. No matter how much pressure he applied, his grandfather’s blood had started to slow down and his body was lifeless. Lorna had left but she had a hand in this and that made Alex sick to his stomach. “You wonder why I kept her from you.” Alex said through gritted teeth. “You leave nothing but death and destruction and if you were any sort of father you would want better.”  Magneto would never care about the compassion side of things and somehow people didn’t see him as a monster.

Katie had tried to listen to her father but she was curious, always had been and always will be. In her little playhouse, she had her colouring books and dolls, basically, everything she had ever wanted with a picture of her mom and dad. It was her home, or what she had dreamed of if her dad wasn’t a solider or her mom wasn’t with an evil king. She was practising her green circled powers when she heard someone call her and she was scared. The screaming and shouting from the house could be heard but Katie didn’t understand what was going on. Katie looked through the window and her heart skipped when she saw the woman with green hair and she looked to her mom’s picture. “Where’s my grandpa?” She asked, shouting out from the safety of her pretend house. “Where’s my dad?”

“Friends that aren’t helping you know and friends you don’t trust your daughter with otherwise you’d have sent her with them. Far out of reach from us and from the Sentinels. I wonder why that is…” she didn’t really but the patronising was all over her tone. “If he’s to do with Katie then he is deep into this.”

"Oh I trust people like Scott and the x-men, I just don’t trust that you won’t burn the school down to get my daughter.” There were hundreds of students at the Xavier school, not including the teachers and Alex couldn’t put them all at risk. Magneto and his brotherhood hadn’t found a line they hadn’t crossed. “You’ve seen what being raised as a weapon does to people, how can you want that for Katie?”
