Buffy watched Angel whimper in his sleep, her heart shattering. It was easier when he was acting like a feral wild animal, growling every time she took a step closer to him. It was definitely easier when he showed up all vamped out and snapped Pete's neck, but when he turned around and looked at her, his face going back to normal as he recognized her, the guilt she felt after running that broadsword through his heart came rushing back. Her heart broke when he said her name. Silent tears streamed down her face as he knelt down, wrapped his arms around her waist, rested his head against her stomach and sobbed her name over and over. She couldn't leave him alone now. Not like this, so she stayed with him until he finally laid still. Now, she was on her way home.

Buffy couldn't keep this to herself. She had to tell someone, but she had no idea who. Her friends and Giles would be upset with her for sure. Faith? She didn't trust her just yet. But, there was someone who she used to tell everything to who wanted Buffy to trust her more. As soon as Buffy walked through the door (which she was still getting used to), she quickly ran up the stairs to Stef's room.

Buffy knocked on the door three times before just walking into the room. "Okay, you want me to start telling you stuff? Fine. But, this is a big one and you cannot tell ANYONE. NO ONE." She took a deep breath. "Angel's alive."

Steff had missed a large part of the Pete drama as she had been flitting between hanging out with Cordy and the rest of the cheer squad and getting to know the new Slayer in town. Because yeah...Steff found Faith to be more than a little fascinating.

Maybe it was the whole 'fuck the world / bad girl' thing. Kind of like that biker hobo Buffy hung out with for a bit back in LA...

She had actually been trying to figure out how to ask Buffy if she could tag along on patrol tonight when her sister came bursting into the room. Seemed her 'girl crush' was going to have to wait.

"Angel? But how...?" Buffy had kind of shish kabob-ed him and sent him to a Hell Dimension. Or so her sister had told her following their post-zombie blow out. "Is he...I mean...he's definitely Angel, right? Not..." The psycho who had tortured them all for several months following her and Buffy's birthday.

"Pretty sure this guy didn't consider me a friend. Or even knew who I was. He said something as he dug the knife in; I couldn't make out all of it, but he definitely called me the Slayer..." Which meant he had thought she was Buffy.

As kids, it had been great fun to pretend to be one another. To use the fact they were carbon copies of one another to play tricks on their friends and confuse their teachers. But now...now it was a dangerous thing. For Steff to be mistaken for her sister, well...it led to moments like this.

"Your place was closer than the house. And as I don't have the whole accelerated healing deal, I was kind of hoping...." Hoping face could help her patch things up before they got to extreme blood loss and/or hospital territory.

Cause there was no good way in which to explain this to their mother. None.

Really? She wasn't allowed to not want to be attacked again!? There was only so much she could take. "You and Xander kept coming at me last night and you know how horrible I feel!" there was no anger or irritation in her voice, she just sounded upset like she was last night. "Why is that not enough for you?"

Buffy's heart broke when Stef reminded her that they used to tell each other everything. "I can't tell you everything, Stef," she said, sadly. "Sometimes there's stuff I can't tell anyone at all. This was one of those times."

"Because for the second time since we moved to Sunnydale, I didn't know if you were dead or alive..." That wasn't EXACTLY true. Steff might not be a Slayer, but she was a twin. Buffy's twin. And that meant there was a deep connection between the two girls.

She had felt it the night of the dance. Buffy's death. It felt like someone had a death grip upon her heart. And they were squeezing with all their might. She hadn't known at the time what it meant. But after Buffy told her...

So had Buffy died following her meeting with Angelus, she would have known.

But it still hadn't felt good to not know where she was. Or if she was okay.

"It sucked. And was kind of scary. Not to mention I had to deal with mom all Summer BY MYSELF. Mom who both felt REALLY guilty for you leaving and who was constantly afraid I would disappear too. I did learn how to stake a vampire, though..."

"I know you can't tell me everything. I do. But can you at least promise to tell me everything that you can?"

“Gotta say, you've got guts showing up uninvited,” Glory smiled, but it was devoid of any warmth. She didn't have to pretend to care now that Stef knew who she was. She had to admire her courage though, coming to her apartment to talk to her as if they were friends. She'd probably learned where to find her after the Slayer sent in her rescue party for that vampire.

Before Stef had a chance to leave, Glory blocked the exit, moving lightning fast. “Quitting on me already? But we haven't even talked about why you're here. I'll bet Buffy doesn't know. That's it, isn't it? You're worried slaytwin's gonna scold you for comin' to visit the big bad Hell God all by yourself."

If Buffy knew where Steff was, scolding would be the least of her worries. Glory was a Hell God. A being of unimaginable power. And more than that, she was looking to use their little sister to open a doorway to Hell. Not that Glory particularly knew about Dawn yet. Just that Buffy has the key...

"Of course Buffy doesn't know..." Steff might be dumb...coming there all alone...but she wasn't stupid. No way had she told her sister, or any of the Scooby Gang, her plan.

As for what she wanted... "Look, I had an idea which on the way over seemed like a great idea but now seems kind of insane, so if you don't mind..." She motioned to the door that was currently behind Glory.

"I mean...I doubt you'd even go for it...I thought...what if I agreed to stay. Here. With you...like a..." Not so much hostage, but a... "Companion." Or pet? She highly doubted the god would see her as a peer. "Then maybe that would buy Buffy some more time to find your key.... without you tearing through walls."

Whenever Buffy snuck back into their bedroom in the dead of night after patrolling, she could usually manage to do it without disturbing her sister. Tonight, she’d been unfortunate enough to come crashing ungracefully through the window and it was honestly a miracle she hadn’t woken up their mom from the noise. Stef hadn’t been so lucky and Buffy did feel kind of bad for startling her.

“It’s not my fault you put something right in front of the window,” she dramatically said pointing an accusatory finger at the small dresser in question, too proud to admit she was in the wrong. “I could have broken my neck falling over that thing!” Buffy tried to protest with a firm nod as if it was a really good point. It wasn’t.

"That thing has been there since the day we moved in. Don't blame the poor dresser for your clumsiness. And here I thought Slayers were supposed to be graceful." She was, of course, joking. While Steff still had some lingering...grumpiness...over having not found out about Buffy's status as a mystical warrior until after she died, she was, for the most part, over it.

Which is why she abandoned her bed and her nice warm blankets to get up and check the hall. Make sure their mom was still asleep.

"So how'd it go? You see Angel?"

Stuffing a red solo cup into a trashbag, Stef stopped and looked at her sister. Was she serious??? "Uhn-uh. No. You do NOT get to be upset with me. You LEFT, Buffy. Took off without so much as an 'I'll write if I get work'. And I get it...you and mom had a big ol blowout before you left to save the world...but I'm not mom. You could have at least let me know you were alive." Especially since not a year earlier she had died. DIED.

"We used to tell each other everything..." She knew the whole mystical destiny meant there were some things Buffy couldn't tell...but Stef just wished she'd tell her SOMETHING. ANYTHING. Like she did back in LA.

While she wasn't the WORST sister ever (she was sure there was some axe murderer or serial puppy kicker that held that title), she was definitely up there. She hadn't come to LA looking to put the moves on Buffy's ex...quite the opposite. She had come to see her dad. Visit Cordelia. Do some shopping.

Had Cordelia not been working for Angel...they may never even have crossed paths. But she was and they did and now here they were. Still up after a full night of talking and locking lips.

"I...uh...I don't know why I....not that I didn't like it. I did. Very much so. I just..." Desperate to stop her rambling, Stef stepped forward and kissed him again.

“Nice to see good fashion sense runs in the family,” Glory complimented with a grin. There was no need for the Slayer to know Glory thought she had cute outfits, but she could tell Stef - it was like a fun little secret.

“Wow, LA, I’m jealous,” she did her best to feign interest. “I had no idea that’s where you guys were from.” Frowning as if she was trying to piece things together, Glory casually continued, “so what made you decide to move to a place like this?” She gestured aimlessly with her wrist to indicate she meant Sunnydale. “LA must have been way cooler than this lame excuse for a town.”

"It does help having a sister both identical to you and not fashionably tragic...doubles the wardrobe size." Glory's secret was safe with Stef. As Stef was happy to take half the credit for Buffy's good taste. Most of their shopping was done together, after all.

"Really? I guess we've been in Sunnydale long enough now that Buff doesn't think to mention it." Which made sense. In many ways, Sunnydale was home now. It was where their friends were. Where Buffy's Watcher was. Where the Hellmouth was. It just made sense. And their mom's gallery had really flourished. Not to mention Dawn...

Stef had been so afraid when they moved there that Dawn wouldn't make any friends. That SHE wouldn't make any friends. Sunnydale was so small, so different from LA and...

But it had all worked out in the end.

"Buffy got expelled from school. She was dating this guy and...yeah...burned down our school gym." So maybe that wasn't Pike's fault. There had been vampires inside. But as that wasn't common knowledge...

"I miss it. A lot. But I guess Sunnydale has it charms. There's a pretty decent boutique on Main Street. April Fools. I can take you there sometime. And The Bronze occasionally gets good bands."

Buffy nearly dropped the candle-shaped ornament she was holding in surprise. "I'm sorry. It sounded like you said you went thrift shopping. Are you actually my sister or a Steffybot?" Stef wasn't who she used to be seven years ago, but one thing remained the same; she refused to go thrift shopping. Until now.

Buffy chuckled at the thought of a moose menorah. "That I have to see," she said. "And the Hellmouth ate her grandmother....well, her grandmother's corpse..." THAT was a little dark. "I heard it," she said to Stef before she could say anything.

"I did...turns out it is not as tragic as I always thought it would be. The store had some really neat vintage-y stuff too. Some of which was designer. I got bell bottoms. And this cute top. I cannot wait to wear them New Year's Eve. You're gonna be so jealous..." Stef wasn't exactly ready to commit to thrift shopping as her new hobby...but it had come in handy. And saved the holiday.

"The Hellmouth ate a lot of things." Their own mother included. So Stef would allow her sister her dark humor. Coping mechanisms and all that.

"Soooo speaking of Willow...I'm thinking...what if we learned to make Latkes...as a Hannukah present to her."

If she didn't know better (and know that twins were totally a thing that existed), Faith would think this was an elaborate prank by Buffy. But Stephanie had subtle differences from her slayer twin. Namely the strength of the handshake. There were some other notable things, like the way she spoke and dressed (even if both Blondies were totally valley girls), but at a first glance, Faith had to wonder if the vamps ever got the two mixed up. She'd have to be careful about what she said to who moving forward.

Faith's brows knit in confusion. Okay, if she knew what a Watcher was, she knew what a Slayer was, at least. "Yeah, somethin' like that. I, uh... kinda lost my first Watcher fighting this big ugly named Kakistos... Heard so much about the legendary Buffy Summers and the Hellmouth out here, I figured why not go somewhere with backup?"

The mention of the evil Watcher made her purse her lips, though. Was she talking about that bitch Gwendolyn Post? She got what she deserved, frying with that stupid glove and all. "Guess the Council's sending another British babysitter soon enough. I'm tryin' to enjoy the freedom while it lasts."
