“Having our own plane was practical, literally just to get around, which would have been impossible on a commercial aircraft. Also, it made more sense for us to work out of bases rather than staying in a different town every night. It had to be enjoyable as well, also it did make it a lot easier because you didn’t have to pack and re-pack every day because you stayed in the same hotels ; the bases were New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, New Orleans and from there every plane ride was around half an hour away. You could leave your hotel late-ish, get on the plane, do the gig and get back, then you wouldn’t have to check in, check out, get in the road; all that sort of stuff.
