Helena recalls Morrough is the one who unlocked the secrets of immortality. She remembers Luc and considers what he would do in her situation. Helena is having muscle spasms and Stroud guesses it's nerve damage from multiple wrist breaks. Stroud grills Helena about how/when/why Helena joined the resistance. She says Helena joined the wrong side and that she could have been great Helena recalls being treated as an outsider when she first came to Paladia, how guild (noble) students didn't treat her well, but the Holdfasts, founding family of the institute, always did. She recalls the death of principate apollo and the subsequent ascension of Luc into the role. Murrough's immortality and undead wreaked havoc soon after. Stroud learns from Helena that vivimancy in the resistance is not well documented, but there is a small crescent with a slash through it that indicates it was performed on patient medical records. Helena recalls Anton Bennet as the leader of experimentation for New Paladia. She also briefly crosses paths with a former classmate, Penny, who apologizes and says Helena was right. Helena does not know the context, but does not get more information as she is to be delivered to The High Reeve.

Helena encounters Grace, a former member of the resistance, who fills her in on some details.

The High Necromancer (Morrough) dispatches someone called "The Reeve" to do his dirty work. The Reeve's identity is unknown. Supposedly the Reeve can conduct resonance without physical contact.

Grace reveals she is working at "Central" now to survive and keep her little brothers alive. Helena receives a summons via a necrothrall woman. The High Necromancer wants to personally examine her.

While being inspected and having stronger resonance suppression manacles applied, her captors suspect there is some information hidden in her mind. They then guess that she was a healer for the resistance.

The High Necromancer discovers Warden Mandl is the reason Helena is not deceased. As punishment, he summons her rips her soul(?) out of her current body and places it in a necrothrall. After some more musing, the captors suspect Helena was able to survive because her resonance suppression manacles were weaker/of an older model, and perhaps she vivimanced /herself/ to cover up memories or some sort of soul transference process was developed by the resistance.
