Abortion Regret

It was never my intention to harm you I never meant to lie They told me it would be easier If I would just tell you goodbye

They didn’t know how much it would hurt me They never bothered to ask why

Why am I always upset? Why do I always cry?

It is hard out here without you I think about you all of the time

I wonder who you would look like Would you have his eyes, or mine?

I’m sorry for taking away your first breath 

Because I was too scared of consequence 

And know, that every tear I’ve cried since then

Has been for you

And your little ten toes

That I never got to count

And your soft skin and eyes of your father

That I never did see

But know that you were a product

Of real, raw young love

And that I loved him more than the air that I breathed

And I loved him more than you

For that, I can never cry enough

Because I chose us, over you

I chose now, over you

And I’ll never forgive myself.

For being a coward .

Now I can only find courage

No? Well, why not? These are big life decisions, aren’t they? So why don’t they have their own 'regret syndromes?’ Why don’t they have their own 'support and healing’ groups; and, more importantly, why aren’t we passing legislation to save people (well, really just women) from themselves and prevent people (well, really just women) from taking these risks?
