M: I know this situation we're in isn't exactly...the greatest, but when it's all over, you'll see. It's so worth it. And you know, you're a huge part of my dream, Q. Huge.

M: Between my legs, laying next to me, in my lap facing me, beneath me, looking up the length of your perfect body when you're straddling my head...

Q: I know. My Domme is going to be the most amazing surgeon that there's ever been. She's going to have a dozen methods named after her, and she's going to make me so very proud. That's my dream. To see you succeed.

M: No, I mean, it's a perfectly legitimate feeling, baby. And I'm the one who's sorry, med school's just a whole different beast than I'd imagined it would be. If you're unhappy...you'd be upfront with me, right?

Q: I'm sorry. I'm just missing you, that's all.

M: We'll get through it and pay it off, baby. I've already applied for grant money next semester.

M: And your Domme wants so badly to be there with you right now. She wants all the puppy piles, snugs, cuddles and kisses.

[A beat.]

M: Apparently, gross anatomy makes her really sappy and cuddle starved.

Q: Four years of med school and a million more years to complete your residency...I'm never going to see you again, am I?

M: I agree. We have a pretty sweet life together, don't we, babe? $250,000 in loans and all.

M: I'll say! Whenever I'm out in the yard I see the not so little 'reminders' all over the place!

M: Well, now you're just gonna make me blush, and my lab partners are gonna laugh at me.

Q: Ugh, don't remind me.

Q: Hey, I clean up the yard every day! More or less.

M: But...if she doesn't we still have each other.

M: And Faraday.

M: And Nut.

M: And Atticus the freaking Giant who I still think hasn't finished growing yet because he keeps eating my shoes!

[A beat.]

M: Eh, I don't want normal. Normal is boring. I want to become a famous surgeon, make you my wife (somehow!), and give you the best, more extraordinary life ever.

Q: Our little family is all that I need.

Q: Don't pick on my boy. You're gone all the time and he misses you. He just wants you to have something to remember him by when you're out of the house.

M: I love you, baby. Sometimes I have to pinch myself, because this feels like a dream.

M: But maybe...she just needs a little time to process it, you know?

[Mary lets the hypothetical sit for a little while, and it nags at her throughout the day. It's a legitimate question to be sure; one that carries many possibilities with it.]

M: No. I don't. Because you wouldn't be /you/.

M: Maybe it would be easier for us if we were fraternal, sure, but I think...I think our bond is that much stronger because of the hardship/resistance that our appearance pits us against. If that makes sense. Cuz it did in my head. :|

[A beat.]

M: I really am sorry, babe.

Q: I love you too. More than anything in this world.

Q: Maybe you're right. Maybe she'll come around.

Q: I does make sense, M&M. And I think that that's true, but I still wish that it didn't have to be so hard sometimes. I want to be able to give you a normal life.

M: There was no point in hiding any more so...I confirmed it. Came clean about everything. That you're the submissive I've been talking about, and I'm your Domme. We've been in love for nearly a year and just...

[A pause]

M: Then she said "I have to go." and hung up.

M: :(

Q: I see.

[A beat]

Q: Well, she can think what she likes. And if she can't accept it, then fine. It's not the world's hugest loss to be without her. I have you, and that's what matters.

[Another few moments pass as Quinn collects herself, running a shaky hand through her hair as her minds swirls with a thousand different emotions--sadness, anger, confusion, regret.]

M: At first? Nothing.

M: Then she asked me for clarity. Because she 'thought she heard me say Quinn'.

Q: M, you're killing me here. Just keep going.

M: Exactly what it sounds like.

[a beat.]

M: Look, I know that back when the semester started and she was here, I kinda chickened out on the whole plan to tell her about us.

M: Then earlier today on the phone she starts rambling on and on about relationships and how I should find someone to keep my ass in line through med school. And I told her well, I have a girlfriend and she takes good care of me. I guess she sees that as a separate thing from having a sub...but anyway

M: She's all surprised and making dumb mom-like comments, getting all gushy and mushy over it. Then she says something cheesy like, "Does she give you a good luck kiss before your exams."

[A pause.]

M: To which I said, "Mom, Quinn gives me a good luck kiss before each class!"

M: :|

Q: M&M...

[There's a brief pause between messages as Quinn heaves an exasperated sigh, pointer and middle fingers rising to rub slow circles along her temple.]

M: so...........I kinda sorta definitely told mom about us.

[a pause]

M: by accident.

No matter how big he gets, Atticus will never stop being my baby.
