Subject Ø-G Experiment Log

I knew there were some irregularities with 0-G, but it seems like new stuff keeps popping up as soon as I think I have him figured out. His font is crazy…There’s no letters, numbers, or even proper punctuation…just…pictures. It’s like the kid talks in hieroglyphics. Papyrus and I are doing our best to keep track of what symbols mean what letters, we’ve actually made a chart on our whiteboard and try to quickly update it whenever 0-G feels comfortable speaking.

He’s been trying to do that more, although every time Pap or I scramble to the whiteboard, he gets spooked and goes back to his Morse Code tapping for a while. I’m not gonna complain though, at least we’re getting somewhere with him.

The security footage didn’t show any monsters in the lab, other than Pap, 0-G, and myself. I’ll try to keep a closer eye on the cameras though and see if I can uncorrupt the file.

On a less ominous note, I‘ve been pondering what 0-G told Pap…about us sounding like different things…I can’t quite figure it out…How does Papyrus sound like sleigh bells? How do I sound like a trombone? It doesn’t make sense to me…I thought it had something to do with our voices, the trombone kinda fits my voice, but the sleigh bells don’t match Papyrus’ voice…Maybe Pap can figure it out, he loves a good mystery.

I did NOT leave that last message on our research log, neither did Papyrus. We’re currently trying to see if someone’s hacked into our system. The last thing we need is a security breach while 0-G is still vulnerable, his HP’s been rather low lately…

Papyrus is trying to coax 0-G into saying the alphabet so we can translate his font. He hasn’t really said any words at this point, just sounds. We know he has the knowledge to form words and sentences because of his mastery of the tapping code Papyrus taught him. However, he’s relying soley on that to communicate. Pap and I have a few theories about why he won’t talk:

It’s easier for him to use the code because it’s what he’s used to.

He heard how startled we were the first time he attempted to speak and is self-conscious about it.

Because he relies on his hearing to “see”, he prefers to stay quiet so he can hear everything around him.

I’m starting to wonder if 0-G can learn blue magic. I know he has some kind of power; I’m still trying to repair the tank he destroyed with his mind…I’m just not sure what that power is.

As far as teaching him goes, the problem we’ll face is that most it is taught visually, can’t tell if you’ve made a soul blue if you can’t see it, right? Until we get rid of the bone covering his eye sockets, he won’t be able to use blue magic. I haven’t told Pap about this yet, I’m not sure how he’d react to it.

Papyrus brought in some musical instruments today. He said that 0-G seemed interested in sound as of late, and I’d have to agree; I’ve noticed him tapping on different things in the lab (thankfully he hasn’t touched anything dangerous yet), and he gets pretty excited when he finds something that makes a different noise. 0-G seemed a little overwhelmed by all the noise the instruments made when Papyrus brought them in, but settled down once Pap apologized and explained what the racket was. My guess is the sound was a bit much for him since he relies on his hearing to get around.

Something interesting happened when Papyrus showed him two particular instruments. The first one he had a strong reaction to were the sleigh bells. When Pap started jingling them, 0-G started smiling and walked toward them excitedly. He tapped out something on Pap’s arm. Papyrus looked at him, confused, and told him he was hearing sleigh bells. 0-G tapped again, Papyrus tilted his head, even more confused, and said, “It…sounds like me?” I dunno what that means, it could mean something, or it might just be 0-G’s attempt to match Papyrus’ voice to another sound. I suppose it fits his personality though: sleigh bells are a happy sound to me and Pap, and 0-G seems happy around Papy.

0-G’s HP raised long enough for me to only put one plate on. Knowing I wouldn’t have much time, I asked Papyrus for help and we put him under to begin the procedure. His bones responded well to Papyrus’ healing magic once all the screws were in place, but I wish that his HP stayed high for a few more minutes so I could cover his other hole. Papyrus said it’s probably for the best that we only got one plate on, anything more would have been too much of a change.

I know Sans said not to get attached to 0-G, but I can’t help it! He’s come so far and I’m certain he will thrive in the underground when we decide to let him out of the lab. He’s already very good at problem solving, which is only one word away from puzzle solving (a very essential skill to have, if I do say so myself!). I’ve already made a special puzzle cube for him with etchings on each square so he can feel when he’s solved it!

I’m watching 0-G while Papyrus is on a supply run.

0-G navigates in a very interesting way: the kid’ll rattle his bones before he makes any attempt to move forward. I think he’s using some kind of echolocation...rattlelocation, if you will.

He also seems to know where I am at all times...when he needs something, he goes directly to me (or Pap when he’s here). I’m not sure how he’s doing that...I could be silent and he still finds me. He can’t see souls, not with the layer of bone covering his eye sockets.

Heh...the kid must be mic shy. Papyrus tried to record 0-G talking, but he didn’t make a sound. I might have to set up a microphone in the hallway or something.

We did some scans of 0-G’s skull today to confirm whether or not he has eyes, and it turns out he does. He has eye sockets behind the excess bone covering his face, and in them are what appear to be two orbs similar to my eyes. Papyrus and I are coming up with a plan to remove the layer of bone covering them. It’s a delicate procedure...one wrong move and he’ll end up loosing an eye, or worse...

0-G spoke today.

It wasn’t really anything understandable, but the fact that he made a sound was pretty impressive. Papyrus and I both figured he’d try talking soon since he’s been listening to us talk; it was still quite a shock when he did though. We’ll try to have him sit down and talk into a microphone so we can identify his font more easily.
