Harry marries Ginny, becomes an Auror, and has his white-picket-fence, two-and-a-half-kids suburban life. And he’s happy.

Draco marries Astoria, has Scorpius, and manages to care for them both while he restores some dignity to the Malfoy name. And he’s happy.

Their paths cross and diverge. They’re polite—even friendly sometimes.

And if, other times, they make eye contact from across the room at some stuffy party they were each dragged to, they could swear the other is thinking the same thing—and it would be so easy, feel so good—

It doesn’t matter. Acting on it would ruin everything. And they’re happy.

It will be easy.

Draco will cross from his bedroom to Harry’s.

He’ll knock the door, a brisk rat-a-tat.

Harry will appear, face sleep soft, glasses smudged.

Draco’s heart will thud, overloud.

He’ll have one moment of bravery.

He’ll ask what the kiss meant.

A familiar drawl sounded behind Harry as he and Ron crossed the courtyard. “Well, you know what they say about brave little Gryffindors.”

Harry bit back the first words that came to mind (“What do they say, Malfoy?”), and said instead, “Good morning, Draco.”

Although Draco clearly enjoyed himself, smirking as Harry drew him close, he half-heartedly resisted. “Stop, I’m trying to bully you.”

“You’re doing a pretty shit job,” Harry murmured against his mouth. “Good morning.”

Ron sighed, exasperated. “I thought you two would finally be normal when you started dating.”
